Chapter 151 THE END?
THE END?
SLOANE’S POINT OF VIEW.
“How….how can this be?” I whispered in disbelief, my eyes taking in the woman the world and her family declared dead for decades… how the hell is she alive and standing in front of me right now?
She whimpered as Eldric grabbed her by the arm again, dragging her around like a rag doll with total disregard for her feelings or well-being as he pulled her over to where I stood.
“See.” He chuckled again, and I wondered what the hell was so fucking funny. Lucien has almost lost his mind multiple times in grief. He tries to hide it from me, but I saw it clear as fucking day. It was why he always found himself in one of her properties, because he needed to feel grounded when everything felt suffocating.
“A couple of years ago, when my ungrateful bastard of a son was about six, I asked my darling, patient, loving wife for a favour.” He hissed through gritted teeth as he glared at her. It was almost alarming the amount of hate I could see in his eyes every time he looked her way. She was dressed in completely black clothes that covered her entire body, including her face.
At least before he flipped the veil he draped her in.
I gasped at the sight of the bruises that littered her face, neck, hands, and feet… the parts the clothes didn’t fully cover. If I saw this much….I wonder what the clothes hid.
“You want to guess the question?” He asked happily, suck joy and delight in his soulless eyes, as he placed her directly beside me so she was seated. I watched as he grabbed some more chains and worked on getting her hands and feet bound the same way mine were.
The words ‘fuck you and your damn guesses, you motherfucker’ were right on the tip of my tongue, but I knew better than to fight with a psychopath, so I kept mute, because I knew he wouldn’t let me speak anyway.
“Don’t bother guessing; I’ll tell you.” The sound of the lock turning felt like something final, as I took in the utter despair in her form….she looked hopeless….or rather, tired of hoping for a freedom that never came. I saw as her hands and feet shook, perhaps from the cold, or the fear, or despair, or a combination of all of it. Her whimpering didn’t end, not even as Eldric spoke. I could see the way she huddled in a corner, her form protective over her belly as she groaned.
‘She might be more hurt than you imagine, Sloane.’
“I told my wife to give me more than half of the properties, because since she was sick, I should have her power of attorney. And I should get to control the company and finally be the CEO I was born to be. But you wanna know what she said and did?”
His gaze darted to her in that moment, and I swear I wished he would look at me instead. Because the look of anger and hatred in his eyes?..... I don’t think any normal human would have it.
All of a sudden, he advanced on her, and the moment he got even an inch closer, he went berserk. His kicks aimed at her belly, and he didn’t bother stopping even as she sobbed and tried to bury herself into the floor.
“This bitch said no! Shr fucking denied me, and made me look like a fool, all in front of my friends!” He yelled; the sound of his heavy breathing, mixed with her whimpers and cries, as well as my gasp, filled the warehouse, coupled with that of Valour still sharpening his knife.
“Wait!” I yelled before I could stop myself, thankful that it worked for a moment because he paused his aggressively vicious kicks and stared at me instead. I felt a mix of relief and regret, because on one hand, he stopped hating her, and on the other, his hate and anger were now directed at me.
“What the hell do you want?!” he yelled in my face, and I gulped as I said, my tone careful to avoid him getting angry again.
“You didn’t tell me what happened after.” He stared at me for what felt like forever, the sound of my heart pounding felt earth-shattering in my ears, and my throat tightened so I couldn’t even gulp. But luckily, he moved away from her with a chuckle and continued with his story.
“See, when she told me no, even while she was on her fucking deathbed, bleeding out of her mouth, her skin so pale, you wouldn’t need an X-ray to see her insides; I knew nothing would get her to give me the company. So I'd have to take it when she died. Because then, I thought I would be her next of kin, or at least if it was Lucien, because I knew how attached she was to that brat.”
He said with a roll of his eyes.
“At least I’d have control as his guardian. So I planned everything, and just when she died, or rather, we thought she died, I discovered that she did leave all of it to Lucien, but to my horror, I wasn’t the fucking guardian.
Her fucking parents were.”
He let out a maniacal chuckle again, sounding like a druggie undergoing withdrawals.
“You know, when I found out about that, I thought I could counter it. Say she was out of he mind because of the sickness and meant I should be the sole guardian; but she planned everything so fucking well, that I couldn't even get that fucking done.”
He chuckled again… at this point, the sound of his chuckles felt more like that of a broken clock.
“So I thought again, why don’t I just manipulate my son, he was fucking eight…..everything should be fucking easy; like taking candy from a baby. But yet again, my fucking pathetic wife managed to outsmart me.
And you know how she did that?
She made it legal for my son to leave the mansion and head on over to his grandparents' place till he turned seventeen… and only then could he decide to return to the mansion; but at that point, he would be fucking king, and I would have to be at the whims of my own son.
So I thought again….what if my son finally takes after me, and loses the pathetic attachment to his mother? I was dead wrong.”
He sighed. “You know why? Because my son was exactly as weak as his mother, and he thought that my hitting her was some form of crime.
I did all that to shape him into the perfect man, but he took his mother’s side. And to add insult to injury, he dared fall in love with you.” His tone lowered, but he didn't make a move towards me; not yet, at least.
“I found out the early bits hours after she gave up the ghost. My wife didn’t want to waste a moment.” He chuckled crazily again. “So when she suddenly awoke, I knew the universe had given me another way to exact my revenge on her, and her entire fucking stuck-up family of aristocrats.
And that’s why I made all of them think she was dead. Because there is nothing funnier than seeing people lose their minds with grief while you torture the person they’re crying about.
But now that I’m ready to end everything, I think one way to celebrate my becoming a billionaire overnight would be to kill my lovely wife, her son, and his girlfriend. Don’t you agree?”
Before I could utter a word, the sound of multiple cars pulling in came through the thin walls, startling me as I stared at the windows. It was night, but I could clearly see the reflection of car lights.
“Ahh, my money is here….and so is the end.”
