Chapter 136 A COMBO FROM HELL.
ELDRIC’S POINT OF VIEW.
“Over my dead fucking body.” He replied, his jaw even tighter. I took in the way he stood before me, his stance like a ready soldier, about to whip out his sword in protection of his precious, pathetic Sloane. I smiled at that because, like his mother, the fool has a weakness. Alicia’s weakness was her son, and his weakness was Sloane.
“That can be arranged, my dear son,” I responded.
“Okay, that’s enough,” Erika said, pulling him away from me so she stood in front of me now. I redirected my attention from my son and his bitch, and stared at her instead. She was a small woman, reminded me of a fucking bug….and I wanted to stomp on her for as long as I needed, as long as she became squashed. “I have let you speak for as long as needed, and I am sure the police have additional evidence against your bitch ass.”
“I’ll get rid of you, too. Just as I did for your sister. I’ll make sure of it, even if it’s the last thing I fucking do.” I vowed, smiling down at her. She reminded me too much of Alicia, and a life I wanted to be far away from. She couldn’t stay alive, not if I had anything to do with it, anyway.
“I dare you. Give it your best.” She challenged, her gaze not once moving from mine, nor did she move. I frowned at that… she wasn’t scared?
I thought her resemblance to Alicia would mean she would act exactly like her.
“You might have found my sister a weak and unworthy opponent. But I promise you, I know how to hold my own against weak men who think they’re strong just because they hit women. So I dare you again, please give it your best shot. If I do not have you trembling and writing in pain beneath me, call me a fucking bastard.”
My smile died instantly.
“You’re not worth my time,” I said.
“Sure, you fucking coward.” She said, before nodding to the officers. “Take him away.” She commanded, and instantly, they grabbed at my arms again and pulled me towards the exit.
I allowed them to drag me, but stopped just when I got to the side where Sloane stood. I bent low enough and whispered so only she would hear. “Remember to mark my words, little butterfly. You will die in the next few days or weeks. It’s what you get for being so dear to a boy like Lucien.”
She visibly shuddered beside me, and I relished the speck of fear in her eyes, a smirk tugging at my lips.
‘That's it!” I heard my son yell from behind me. “Get him the hell away from here, now!”
“Come on, officers,” I said in a sing-song tone. “Giddy up, and let’s go.”
They all had no idea, but I was a step ahead. I was always one fucking step ahead of all of them.
The officers grabbed me as soon as we got to their car, pushed my head down, and forced me into the seat with more force than necessary. Two of the hefty idiots sat on either side of me, while the other two got in the front seat. I stared out the window at Sloane, happy to see that she was in Lucien’s arms as he clutched onto her with such a grip. It looked like he was scared that if he let up on his grip even a little, she would disappear instantly.
I loved that….it meant I still had an effect on them.
“Remember, Sloane,” I said, my voice loud as I smiled innocently at her. “You’re going to die.” I sang, laughing hysterically as the car rolled off the curb, and drove further away from my son, his Aunt, and my next victim.
The car moved in silence, the officers not once saying a word to me, not even as I sang to them. My voice pitched higher and higher with each note I sang, as I resorted to shimmying against them. All I could feel was my teeth crunching on the hatred in my heart. The bitter taste in my mouth felt divine all of a sudden, and not as unpleasant as it had been earlier.
“So, where are we going?” I asked, my hand jutting against the officer to my left. “No one’s going to answer me? Hmm?” I laughed again, my hands clenching as I looked at the houses we passed by.
My eyes widened as I realised one thing… this isn’t the route to the police station.
“Where the hell are we going?” I asked again, fear settling in my bones for the first time. I wondered if they were taking me to Lucien…. Did he have some other thing planned against me? Was the plan not to leave it all in the hands of the law and the government?
“This isn’t where the station is…..where the fuck are we headed?” I asked again, but neither of them said a word, or even fucking breathed for that matter. It felt like I didn’t even fucking exist in the car.
“If you do not tell me where the hell we’re going, I will scream for every bloody person on the street to hear,” I warned, and they still did not utter a word.
“Okay, here we go then.” I opened my mouth, ready to scream bloody murder, but just before I could, I heard one of the officers laugh. It was the one seated in the front with his face covered, so only his eyes were visible. I stared into them, the unique bluish-green colour reminding me of someone….it felt like I’d seen it from somewhere. I just couldn’t place it yet.
“You were rumoured to be an impatient bastard, Eldric Hayes.” He said, staring back at me with eyes that reminded me of someone laughing.
“You think this is a fucking joke? Where the hell are you taking me?”
“Relax, you idiot.” He said, raising his hands to tug at the mask over his head. “You want revenge, and I want the same thing. Just from a different person.” He said, his voice not losing the comedic twinge to it. “I just thought, you know, just like the popular adage, ‘The enemy of my enemy is my friend’, we could turn it to, ‘Great minds think alike’ and team up to get what we want.”
He finally pulled off the stupid mask, revealing a face I’d never seen before.
“Who the hell are you?” I spat, regarding him with as much trust as a normal person would give a scorpion. “You do not know who I am, but I have heard enough about you for us to be besties.” He said, laughing again as he stripped himself of the police badge. “My name is Valour Everhart, and you and I will become well acquainted as soon as we get to our other partner.”
“Who’s that?” I asked….”Who are you as well? I do not know that name.”
“Sloane is my niece, and at some point, she was my daughter. You do not know me because the person I had worked at Ravenscroft Corp was a decoy with my name slapped onto a fake certificate, but I guess I was your secretary.” He said with a laugh.
“No way. My secretary was the charity case’s father.” I said, shaking my head. “I know that \[pathetic bastard well enough to know it isn’t you.”
“Ouch, Eldric.” The maniac pouted with his hand to his chest, a false pained expression on his face. “You wound me with that comment. But you’re right, you do know me. Just not….you know, me.” He said with a laugh, throwing three fruit candies into his mouth.
“If all this is even true, who the hell are we going to meet at this place you’re taking me to?” I asked, watching in wonder as the officer to my side took off the handcuffs from my wrists.
“Patience, Eldric. You’ll see.”
