Chapter 69 Knock Down
Chapter 69 Knock Down
Liam
Maya remained behind me, something I was grateful for. I picked up the gun as we carefully stepped out of the room. We weren’t expecting Marie and Shay, considering they’d dropped by two days ago.
We’d agreed they’d limit visiting incase someone tries to follow them or something, so it was only logical that they wouldn’t drop by so soon again.
The closer we got to the door, the more prickly my skin felt. I hated that I felt a tingle of dread run down my spine.
I pointed at the huge cabin that sat at the other side of the room. “Hide in there,” I whispered and Maya frowned.
“What?”
I turned to her. “I need you to be safe. You and the baby, and until we know who it is, tagging behind me isn’t safe.” I mumbled and she pressed her lips together, swallowing nothing before her eyes turned to me.
I could smell the fear radiating from her just as I could see the panic in her eyes. My chest tightened.
I wrapped an arm around her, pulling her into a hug. I kissed the top of her hair and took a sniff. Her scent wrapped itself around me.
For all I care, this might be the last time we’d be this cozy. I know it sounds pathetic to admit that I’’ve been treating every second with her like it’s going to be the last. Not like somethig bad was going to happen to her, even if it would, I wouldn’t live to see it happen.
Because whoever was trying to harm her, was going to have to pass through me first.
“I love you,” I whispered and stared right into her eyes. Tears welled up in them and her lips trembled.
I gave her a small push.
“Hide.”she stared at me for another second before she turned around and scurried to the cabinet, pulling one of the doors open and entering inside. I gave a small smile.
I knew she’d fit in there and I’ve never been more grateful for an old huge cabinet. My grandfather’s.
When I was sure she wouldn’t be easily seen, I slowly turned the knob of the door. My finger hovered over the trigger of the gun.
I pushed the door open slightly and poked my head through, glancing around. There was no one.
I held my breath as I opened the door wider and took a step forward and onto the porch.
There were footprints on the ground. And judging from how huge they looked, they were from boots.
We indeed had guests.
My heartbeat fastened as I looked around, my arms stretched out in front of me with my finger remaining firm on the trigger.
The next thing happened really fast. A shot was fired and the bullet scraped my arm.
“Fuck!” I cursed as I stared down at my arm that was bleeding. The pain shot through.
A man came into sight. He had a black mask around his face. I stared at him, pointing the gun at him.
God, he seemed huge. Muscles covered under black clothing. I gritted my teeth.
“What do you want?” I yelled. Why can’t they just let us be? What exactly do they want?
He said nothing and only stepped closer.
“A step closer and I’ll shoot.” My voice was hard and dry. And I wasn’t even joking, if he took any step further, I’d blow out his brains. I felt warm liqiud run down my arm.
The blood. That was even the least of my problems.
“Knock him out.” The man said, his voice gruffy. I frowned, my brows drawing together trying to figure out who he was talking to. He stared behind me.
My heart slowed down as I realised someone was behind me. Before I could turn around to find out who it was, I was hit…on the head.
I crashed to the ground, my vision blurring as my eyes drifted close. I forced them to stay open and stared at whoever had hit me. It was a lady.
She was fully masked too and had a weapon in hand. I was guessing she’d hit me with that.
My eyes slowly shut against my will.
“He’s out.” she mumbled and the man hummed.
“For how long?”
“Maybe an hour, thirty minutes? Depends.”
“Good. Have you seen her around?”
“The men are still looking. So far, no trace.”
There was brief silence. My chest tightened.
“She’s in there. Find her.”
That was all I was able to make out, before the words doubled and began echoing. My brain turned into a fuzz.
They were out to get her and I hoped, she listened to me and never comes out of that cabinet.
I just had to get out of this alive. And I will.
