Chapter 62 Found

Chapter 62 Found
  Maya
We’d spent the night in the house.
Well, I did because Liam made me.
Said it would be too late to return to the countryside and I didn’t have the energy to put up a fight so I succumbed.
I rolled onto my back and just stared at the ceiling. Hours after we’d both retired to different rooms —with me being in the guest’s— I couldn’t sleep.
Probably as a result of the random thoughts running through my mind. The baby was Liam’s and I had no idea if I wanted him to know that.
I still wanted a life without him. With just my child but I wasn’t so sure anymore.
I wasn’t sure if I was safe, if the safety of my baby would be guaranteed and if…
I closed my eyes as I could feel the sting.
…if anything was to happen to me, I wouldn’t want my baby wandering—alone. With no identity or confusion just like I’m feeling.
Whatever it might be, it needed a life. It’d need its father…in case anything happened to me.
At the thought of that, a hot tear slid out of my eyes and rolled down my cheeks. Knowing the truth didn’t sound all rosy anymore.
It left me wondering why she’d be looking for me. Why I was even born in the first place, it was exhausting.
I had no idea how long I stayed in bed, crying. An idea hit me and no matter how hard I tried convincing myself otherwise, I knew I had to do it.
  I had to leave.

4am. I was in a cab at 4am, I was lucky to have found one at that time.
Going past security was an issue but because they knew me, they’d bought the idea that I was leaving for work and there was really no reason to alert Liam.
If he knew I was escaping, he’d stop me and no, that’s the least thing I needed at the moment. To be stopped.
I’d left him a note, explaining the baby I was carrying was his. Just in case.
The plan was to go to my house in the countryside, pack up the little things I had left and leave the state. If I’m lucky enough, I should be leaving the country in a matter of months.
But I was at risk, and if they were on the lookout for me, the safest thing to do was to hide.
I stared out the window, with my hands wrapped around my tummy.
The sky wasn’t as bright nor were there so many people around. The cars were few too.
The road would be filled with people by the time the sun rose, but I would have been far gone by then.
  My heart ached.
I was already feeling guilty that I was going to leave without informing Shay and her girlfriend but I had no time. I could always call them before getting rid of my phone and getting a burner.
A sigh escaped me and I sank further into the seat, just staring at nothing.
It took an hour and a few minutes before I arrived in the countryside. The streets were still dry though they were a couple of early risers, probably headed to their farms.
“Hey,” I perked up as the driver tried pulling over. He glanced at me through the headmirror.
“Can you wait a couple minutes? I need to grab something,” I asked and I pursed my lips as the older man gave a nod.
“Five minutes, tops.” He stated and I gave him a weak smile as I got out of the car.
“Thank you,” I mutttered, shutting the door before scurrying towards my door.
I jammed the key into the keyhole and the door opened immediately, I frowned lightly.
I was yet to turn the key but I didn’t think too much about it. I got into the house, flicked the lights on and scurried towards my packed bags.
It was like I’d always known something would come up and I’d have to flee again, so I never really unpacked my bags. I’d just dumped them.
I paused as a faint smell of cigarette drifted to my nose. Every hair strand of my skin prickled in awareness.
This was new. I didn’t exactly have close door neighbors and the ones around were an older couple and no, they didn’t smoke.
It took me a second to realize the smell was actually coming from my apartment.
There was someone in my apartment.
Explains why the door was unlocked but I hadn’t thought much about it at the time. Fear settled in.
“Okay, wrap it up princess,” a low baritone voice came from behind me.
Saying my heart stopped for a minute was an understatement.
Slowly, I turned around to see a heavily built man, leaning on the door with a stick of cigarette in between his lips.
He was bald and had an eye patch over his right eye. He was everything that screamed danger…and more.
“Who…” my voice was shaky and a whisper. Dread curled in my stomach as my eyes fell to the gun tucked into his pocket.
He pushed away from the door and covered a few steps before he stopped, tucking one of his hands into his pockets.
He cocked his head to the side, dark eyes assessing me.
“Time to go to mummy,” he grinned and it was even more sinister.
  My heart dropped.
  They found me. Shit.
