Third Person POV
The moment Cynthia’s body hit the ground, the air seemed to leave Lucien’s lungs. The rage that had been fueling him moments ago got replaced by terror.
"Cynthia!" He shouted
Leaving Adrian on the ground he lunged forward without medicine, and the gun slipped out of his pocket.
He dropped to his knees beside her and took her on his lap. She was cold; her breathing was shallow, and her eyes were closed.
"Mumma..." Aurora’s small, broken voice whimpered beside him.
"Cynthia, open your eyes. Please, look at me!" he pleaded, his hands trembling as he brushed the tangled dark hair away from her pale face.
His throat clogged thinking about how he became late. He wanted to be here before the wedding started and save his family, but first, he needed to save his mother.
For years, his father has kept her hostage to blackmail him into doing things the way he wants. A few days back, Lucien got evidence that could track his mother, so he thought of saving her first or his father wouldn't have thought twice before killing her.
Alister had never loved her; to him, she was merely a tool for power and a way to keep Lucien on a leash.
Today, after he found his mother he couldn't even stay with her for more than five minutes because. He had kissed her forehead and sprinted for his car, driving like a madman to reach
And yet, he was still too late.
He pulled her against his chest and tucked her head under his chin. He had spent years dreaming of holding her again, but never like this.
A few feet away, Aurora took a small, hesitant step back. The world was too big, too loud, and too violent for her tiny heart to process. She loved the man she called 'Mr. Stranger,' but seeing him drenched in blood and locked in a primal fight had terrified her. Her mother, her only true safe place, was lying still on the floor, and the hero she thought had come to save them looked like a stranger once again.
She looked to her right where Adrian was now standing with a soft smile on his lips that he had given to her all these years. The smile that promises safety and peace, hiding the true intentions.
Adrian gestured for Aurora to come to him.
Aurora shook her head, her lower lip trembling as she continued to back away. She was at the edge of the aisle when Lucien's head snapped to her. His eyes widened and his breath caught in his throat. One more step and she would tumble down before he could ever hope to reach her.
"Aurora stop!" He shouted.
And Aurora stopped.
Aurora froze. The sudden shout made her flinch violently. She began to cry, rubbing her eyes with her small fists.
"Mumma... I want Mumma..."
"Aurora, Mumma is fine," Lucien said, forcing his voice to soften, though his chest was heaving. "We just need to take her to the doctor. Don't cry, baby. Please, come here to me."
Aurora hesitated, her tears blurring her vision. She took a small, shaky step forward.
"Strawberry, come here," Lucien urged, his eyes pleading.
"Aurora, come to me," Adrian countered, his voice smooth and manipulative. "I promise I will bring your mommy to you. He is the one who hurt her."
The little girl looked between them, her gaze darting from Lucien to Adrian. Lucien didn't move toward her; he didn't want to chase her and risk scaring her further. He wanted her to choose him.
She swallowed and after a long moment of thought she took a small step towards Lucien.
Lucien smiled and opened one arm for her as he was already holding Cynthia with the other.
Behind him, Adrian moved and picked up the gun that slipped from his pocket earlier and before Aurora could reach Lucien’s outstretched hand, Adrian lunged forward and hoisted her up into his arms.
"Dadddyyyyyyyy!" Aurora screamed, the word tearing through Lucien like a bullet.
Aurora shouted, calling him daddy for the first time and his heart dropped to his stomach.
He immediately stood up to reach out to his daughter but Adrian was too fast in pulling out the gun from his pocket and aiming it towards Lucien.
"Don't. Move. Lucien," he threatened, his eyes wild and unhinged.
Lucien froze in his place. Lucien was not afraid of the girl but he knew Adrian. He would never kill him. He would go for Aurora instead.
"Adrian, don't be crazy. Leave her out of this mess. She is a kid!" Lucien tried to instill some sense into Adrian's head.
"I don't care!" He roared. "You cannot have everything you want, Lucien. Give Cynthia to me! Hand her over and take your daughter, for all I care"
Aurora tried to reach out to Lucien with her tiny hands.
Lucien swallowed but stayed in his place. He was waiting for the police to arrive but Adrian already sensed his move.
"Lucien, I am giving you twenty-four hours. Bring me Cynthia and take her back. If you didn't, you know better ..."
And with that, Adrian started taking steps back, Lucien tried to chase him but Adrian threatened him with Aurora in his arms.
"Remember Lucien, you have only twenty-four hours" Adrian gave a sinister smirk "Tik tok"
"Adrian!" Lucien shouted but he had already run out.
Lucien ran behind him but Adrian sat quickly inside his car and drove away. The police arrived at the exact moment.
"Follow him!" Lucien roared "He has my daughter! Do not let that car out of your sight! I want her back at any cost!"
The police immediately followed his order and chased Adrian.
Lucien came back to Cynthia who was still lying on the aisle in her wedding gown.
"Cynthia!" He tried to wake her up again but she didn't respond in any way.
He immediately picked her up in his arms and ran towards his car to take her to the hospital.
