Chapter 64 Chapter 64
I am still unable to forget the files I saw in Adrian's study, but I haven't talked to him about it yet. I am waiting for the right time.
"Mumma, look!" Aurora chirped, grabbing my attention.
She was seated in her high chair, with colors and a drawing pencil in hand.
"How is it?" She asked.
I looked down at her drawing. She has tried to draw a man in a black suit, standing in front of a mansion.
My eyebrows drew together.
"Who is it?" I asked.
"Mr. Stranger" she smiled and my heart dropped "I miss him. I will give it to him when I meet him. Mumma, do you think he will like it?"
For a moment, I can't answer.
Lucien has tried to contact me multiple times. He wants to meet Aurora but I have blocked him from everywhere.
"Say something, mumma!" Aurora asked again.
The intensity in her eyes always reminds me of Lucien.
"Yes, baby" I leaned down and kissed her forehead "It is beautiful. He will love it"
She clapped happily and got back to her work. I can't deny that in such a short period, Lucien has made a special place in Aurora's heart. She cannot forget him.
"Mumma, when will I go to my school?" Aurora further asked with a pout "I want to meet my friends"
Every word she said was a dagger in my heart. She deserved stability. My baby is paying the price for everything that's happening in our lives.
"Soon" I stroked her head but my voice broke as it didn't carry the confidence.
I am too scared to admit her to school again. Lucien will definitely try to reach her. What if he took her away from me, forever?
I shook my head.
I will never let this happen.
"And what about your best friend?" A sudden intrusion caught our attention.
Our heads snapped up at the same time.
"Don't you miss me?" Adrian asked with a fake pout.
"How can I miss you when you are with me" Aurora said in her broken, baby voice.
"Ouch!"
Adrian slapped his chest, dramatically.
A little smile crept on my lips watching two of them.
"Wanna go out?" Adrian asked.
"Yaayyyy.... Yes, yes, yes!" Aurora squealed in pure joy.
"Adrian..."
"She will be with me" Adrian cut me off, before I could say anything "safe and sound"
I swallowed hard. I am not sure.
"Fine, but we will go in the evening," I said.
"Why, Mamma?" Aurora's excitement faded. Her shoulders slumped and her lower lip puckered out.
My heart contracts watching my baby like this.
"I am just not having a good feeling right now" I stated.
"Are you alright?" Adrian asked "You are looking pale."
He reached out as if to touch my forehead, but I instinctively pulled back, masking the movement by reaching for colors. His hand hovered in the air for a second before he dropped it.
"You barely had breakfast today"
The smell of the eggs was making me feel nauseated.
"I am fine, Adrian. Just a bit of a headache. The chaos of the last few days is probably catching up to me."
"I think you need fresh air to clear up your mind and make a wise decision" he leaned against the counter with his arms folded to his chest.
I could understand where he was pointing.
"The weather is beautiful today. We can go to the park near the outskirts, with the pond and ducks" He added "Aurora will love it" he ruffled her hair.
"I don't know..."
"Please, Mumma! The ducks!" Aurora pleaded, with wide eyes and pouty lips.
I looked at her, then at Adrian. His expression was full of concern, the same concern I had trusted for five years but now something feels off. It was not letting me believe him like before.
"Okay," I whispered. "Give me twenty minutes"
My body was screaming no but I can't be so selfish all the time. My baby deserves some happiness.
I stood up to clear the table, but as the scent of crayons wafted up toward me, my stomach somersaulted.
And the next second I found myself running towards the bathroom.
"Cynthia... Mummaa..."
Adrian and Aurora called me at the same time but that didn't stop me.
I leaned over the washbasin and vomited up the contents of my stomach. My skin was clammy, and a cold sweat had broken out across my neck.
I felt a hand, stroking my back, holding my hair back.
The hand was too familiar.
It was not the first time he was holding my hair like this. He has done this multiple times when I had Aurora.
I whinsed my mouth, splashed some cold water on my face, and took a few deep breaths.
I can already feel my little girl clutching my legs tightly. She was concerned and scared at the same time.
"I am calling the doctor" Adrian said.
"No!" I whispered "I am fine"
And just then another wave of nausea hit me. He didn't wait for my approval and called the doctor right away.
Once again, I washed my face and slowly stood up. Slowly I walked out of the room and sat on the edge of the bed. Aurora climbed up and sat on my lap.
"Mumma? Are you broken?" Aurora asked with tears in her eyes.
"Aurora," Adrian called her softly "Mumma just has a tummy ache. Why don't you go play in my room for a little bit?"
"It's fine Adrian" my voice was barely above a whisper. I felt completely drained of energy. All I wanted was to sleep "It's just food poisoning, I think"
Adrian just cocked his head.
He took Aurora from my lap which allowed me to lie back on the bed. He distracted her and made her sleep in his room somehow.
I drifted off, but it wasn't a peaceful rest. I kept waking up to the sound of my own shallow breathing, only to see the room spinning before my eyes closed again. I was feeling too weak to move my limbs.
After some time, the doorbell rang which forced my eyes open. Adrian went to open the door and returned with the doctor beside him.
I felt his cool hand on my wrist as he checked my vitals.
"What made you vomit?" The doctor asked "Any specific trigger?"
"The smell of crayons" I swallowed "I have been feeling this way for the past few days. Maybe, I had food poisoning"
I felt the doctor’s hands move to my abdomen, his touch was light but firm as he pressed down. A low groan escaped my lips; even that small pressure made the nausea flare up again.
He then used his stethoscope to check something and finally looked up at Adrian.
"It's not food" the doctor stated.
I forced my eyes open, my heart stuttering in my chest.
"Then what is it? Why is she so weak?" Adrian asked.
The doctor smiled softly and slowly stood up. He now faces Adrian so I can see his back only.
"Congratulations Adrian, she is pregnant"
