Chapter 38 Chapter 38
Cynthia's POV
The smell of antiseptic and the beep-beep of the heart monitor reached my senses before my eyes slowly opened.
The lights blinded me for a second before I adjusted my vision and found myself on a hospital bed.
Aurora.
My baby.
My fists clenched tightly around the sheet.
Lucien took her!
I inhaled and exhaled a sharp breath.
I don't remember how I reached here but I clearly remember everything Lucien did to me.
I just walked out of his life, without taking revenge for anything he did to my family in the past. I stayed silent when he ruined Adrian, I didn't react that way even when he destroyed my café.
But not anymore!
This time he has attacked my baby. My soul, my everything. I will not forgive him.
Abruptly, I sat up, and a sharp pain shot through me. I looked down at my arm and found an IV drip taped to my skin. A
I ripped the needle out of my arm. A thin line of blood trickled down my wrist but I didn’t care.
I want my Aurora. Not even the doctors could save me if I didn't get her. I will be alright once I get her in my arms.
A shiver ran down my spine when my bare feet came in contact with the cold floor, but I didn't stop even for a second.
I don't know where my shoes or coat were. All I wanted was the warmth of my daughter.
The corridors were silent when I ran through them. It was raining when I came out of the hospital but even that didn't stop me.
I just ran through the streets. The tears mingled with the raindrops. Something sharp pierced my sole but I didn’t stop to check.
I promised Aurora to show up before the day ends and I will keep it.
No matter how big his house is, no matter how much luxury he throws at her, she cannot sleep without my arms around her.
Lucien is confident that not even the police or legal forces can help me anymore. He is very proud of his power and money.
He wants my submission. Right?
Fine. I will play his game. I will walk into the lion's den, and I will let him think he has won, as long as I get to hold my child.
I will play his game now, even if I have to stain my hands for it.
By the time I reached the iron gates of the Vaughn estate, the rain had soaked through my thin clothes, and my breath was coming in ragged sobs. The guards blocked my path.
"Move!" My voice was hoarse but firm.
“We have strict orders...”
I walked ahead and they blocked my way.
"We are sorry ma'am. We can't let you in"
"You will be more sorry if you block my way" I told them.
I tried to pass them but they again came my way.
I felt so much rage that I couldn't control myself. I grabbed a heavy iron rod from the side and swung with everything I had.
It struck one of the guards and he immediately stepped back, holding his shoulder.
I don't know where I got so much strength all of a sudden.
I just wanted to see my daughter and I was ready to even kill someone for it. I will not let anyone come between us.
The other tried to restrain me but I pushed him away with whatever strength I had left.
They hesitated for a second and that second was enough for me to run inside.
The moment I opened the doors and stepped inside, I found Lucien running towards the gate as if he was also coming for me.
To kill me!
"Cynthia?" He whispered as his eyes flicked down my body.

Lucien's POV
My body froze and for a moment I couldn't believe my eyes.
An hour back, the doctor informed me that she was too weak to move and now she was standing right in front of my eyes.
She was drenched from head to toe. Her clothes clung to her fragile body. Her hair was plastered against her face. Her lips were pale and trembling. Her eyes were red, and hollow. Her face looked puffy.
She was barefooted and I could see stains of blood behind her.
It looked like she had run all the way here. I remember how I would have lost my mind seeing her hurt like this in the past.
Before my thoughts could wander around the guards came rushing inside. Their faces were pale and they looked terrified. I ordered them strictly not to let her inside as I knew she would definitely come.
“Sir, we tried to stop her...”
They tried to grab her from behind while she kept staring at me with those cold and dead eyes as if she was here on a mission and wasn't going back until she got what she wanted.
Interesting!
The prey has itself came for me to hunt it down.
A dark and Victorious smile began to curl on my lips. She is exactly on the same path where I wanted her to be. She was predictable, and her desperation was my greatest weapon.
I knew, if I had Aurora, she would definitely come to me, running.
I raised my palm to the guard and gestured with my fingers to take their steps back.
I don't want anyone to touch her unnecessarily.
They hesitated for a second before retreating and closing the heavy oak doors. The doors slammed shut with a sound but she didn't flinch.
A smirk made its way to my lips, she doesn't know yet, she has trapped herself on her own.
Today, she was standing at my place, in my house to meet Aurora, the same way I was standing at her home to meet her once.
The play of destiny!
A small chuckle rumbled through my chest.
I shoved my hands into my pockets and waited for her to make the first move. I wanted to see the extent of her desperation before I played my next pawn.
"Where is she?"
Her first question was quite obvious.
"Where is my Aurora?"
