Chapter 235
Chapter 235
Since work ended late, Gwen decided to visit Lynn in the afternoon instead.
It was her first time at a prison. Looking at the unfamiliar surroundings, she hesitated before turning to Zachary. "I'll go in by myself. Thanks for bringing me."
Zachary nodded. "I'll wait outside. Text me if you need anything."
"Okay." Gwen agreed, got out of the car, and walked into the prison.
With Zachary's help, her entry was smooth. Someone met her at the entrance and led her inside.
In a small room, Lynn was already waiting.
Gwen sat across from her, a medium-sized table between them.
Someone stood in the corner—probably monitoring their conversation.
Lynn kept her head down, refusing to look at Gwen. "So it's you. Here to gloat?"
"I'm not that bored." Gwen's smile was mocking. "You think that because you've come to gloat at me more than once, haven't you?"
Lynn looked away, unwilling to speak.
Gwen smiled faintly. "You know better than anyone what you've done. I'm not here to mock you. I'm just curious what really happened between you and Justin."
"Why should I tell you?" Lynn's tone was firm.
Gwen had expected this. She laughed. "Because I know where Nora is right now."
At the mention of Nora's name, Lynn's expression changed instantly.
She didn't bother asking how Gwen knew. She only knew her daughter finally had hope. "Where is Nora? If you help me get her back, I'll tell you anything you want to know."
Watching Lynn's desperation, Gwen couldn't help shaking her head. "I can't bring her back right now. Don't you know? Justin sent Nora to Valeria."
A remote little country with reportedly chaotic public safety. Even if Justin had a moment of conscience and found a decent family to adopt Nora, the child probably couldn't grow up healthy there.
Lynn lost all her strength. She wanted to say something but didn't know how.
She had no right to ask Gwen for anything.
Gwen guessed her thoughts and said bluntly, "At the end of the day, the child is innocent. So I'll do everything I can to get her out of that country."
Lynn hadn't expected Gwen to help her at a time like this.
After everything terrible she'd done, why would Gwen help her?
Sensing her doubt, Gwen's expression remained frank. "Nora is only four or five, the same age as Charlie. I can't just stand by."
She wasn't kindhearted—she'd just felt some empathy as a mother when she heard Nora had been sent so far away.
Of course, she wouldn't be saintly enough to send the child to Lynn's side.
"Naturally, I'll find Nora a suitable family and country. You can help choose where, but after that, you'll never see Nora again. This is the only thing I can help you with. If you don't think this bargain is enough, you don't have to tell me what happened between you and Justin."
Lynn was obviously dissatisfied.
She was a greedy person by nature. Now that Gwen had made this offer, Lynn wanted more.
But before she could speak, Gwen said, "This is the best solution I'm offering out of consideration for how young the child is. If you keep making other demands, I won't fulfill them."
Lynn pressed her lips together.
She believed Gwen meant it.
Fine. Being able to let her child grow up healthy was already what Lynn had hoped for.
She cleared her throat. "What exactly do you want to know?"
Gwen looked at her. "The psychologist you found for Charlie deliberately hurt him... Did Justin know about it or not?"
"He knew." Lynn raised an eyebrow. "At first, he genuinely wanted to find Charlie a psychologist. But later, when he saw you fire the guy and Charlie getting better and better, he already knew."
Justin had never brought it up directly, but Lynn understood—he'd forgiven her.
Lynn knew Justin too well. His silence meant he didn't take it seriously at all. Maybe it was also because back then he'd been questioning whether Charlie was even his biological son, so he hadn't cared about anything else.
Gwen laughed coldly. "Good. I understand."
Just as she'd thought.
She stood up. "What about The Sterling Group? Who decided your position there?"
"Do you really need to ask?" Lynn raised an eyebrow.
At the company, no matter how much work she did, it couldn't compare to a single word from Justin.
Gwen nodded. "So you're saying that even knowing the company had a lot of unfinished work, he still forced you into a higher position just for you, and pushed me out?"
Lynn propped her chin on one hand and hummed in agreement. "Yeah. He even said your work had always been easy, that I could replace you without trying."
"Who knew there'd be so much to deal with at the company? Honestly, I couldn't be bothered."
She looked at Gwen with confusion, not understanding why she'd ask something like this.
This kind of thing didn't need asking—she should've been able to figure it out herself, right?
Gwen continued. "What about you? You used to like him so much, and he even cheated for you. Why did you choose to betray him?"
Lynn frowned, clearly disliking the word 'betray.'
She shrugged. "You were married to him. You should know he's always been selfish. You could even say the only people he cares about in this life are his own relatives."
"He's hit you before, hasn't he? He did the same to me. There's no way I'd spend my whole life with someone like that."
Gwen understood.
Back when she'd suspected Justin and Lynn, even when she'd brought up divorce, Justin had indeed gotten physical.
Of course, back then Justin had just shoved her carelessly—he probably hadn't expected that one push would leave her bleeding from the head.
But for Gwen at the time, that hurt had made her already broken heart even more unbearable.
Gwen said nothing more, but Lynn started chattering.
"Honestly, the reason I came back to find him was because I saw he didn't love you. That guy's really something, you know? I didn't even say anything back then, and he couldn't wait to come running to cheat."
