Chapter 1272 Risk
Chapter 1272 Risk
"I don't want to."
Alexander's answer was flat.
"What? You—"
Arabella's voice rose sharply.
Brett and Eloise were just as anxious, but they held themselves back.
Maximus only said quietly, "Think it through before you decide."
"Decide what? This baby has to be born."
Arabella immediately shot down her husband's words.
"Mom, don't worry. I'll talk to him."
Victoria was genuinely shocked by Alexander's response, but she understood what was going through his mind. He was just terrified she'd suffer—or worse, that she'd be in danger.
The doctor had already explained her condition clearly. She felt completely fine about it.
And besides, now that the baby was inside her, there was no way she'd agree to an abortion.
Hearing Victoria's words, Arabella managed to calm down slightly. She figured she needed to stay composed first. If Victoria couldn't get through to Alexander, how could she?
After Alexander took Victoria upstairs, Eloise pressed a hand to her chest, trying to catch her breath. Her voice wavered. "Alexander, you're going to give me a heart attack."
Everyone was both thrilled and worried about Victoria carrying twins, but they'd already arranged for doctors and would take good care of her. How could they let anything happen to her?
If the baby was aborted like this, they'd never have another chance.
"You can relax about that. I doubt Victoria will ever agree to terminate."
Maximus tried to reassure his mother.
"Of course I know Victoria's temperament. She sees children as little angels—there's no way she'd give this up. I'm worried about your precious son. You've seen him do outrageous things before."
Eloise looked at her son, her voice thick with distress.
Alexander's reaction had cast a heavy mood over everyone. Even Brett had gone silent.
Back in their bedroom, Victoria sat on the edge of the bed, stewing. Alexander stood still for a long moment before finally approaching. He reached out and gently stroked her hair. "What did the doctor say?"
"The doctor said I can deliver."
Victoria was still upset, but this had to be clear.
Alexander crouched in front of her, looking up at her worried face. His chest tightened.
After witnessing everything she'd been through—all that pain—how could he bear to let her suffer through childbirth again? For him?
And this time it was twins. It would be even harder than the first time.
"Childbirth always carries risks, Victoria. I don't want you facing any more risks because of me."
Alexander gripped her hand.
"Don't you want Strawberry to have a little brother or sister? I know you're worried about me, but every gamble in life comes with risk. And I'm willing to take this one."
Victoria spoke patiently.
Life itself was a risk. Traffic accidents happened every single day. Living meant taking chances.
She might be afraid of other risks, but this one? No one could stop her from taking it.
Alexander said nothing more. Just looking at her, he could see how resolute she was.
Forcing her like he used to—controlling her the way he once had—was impossible now. So what could he do?
All he could do was give everything he had to take care of her.
"Alexander, please."
When he still didn't speak, Victoria's nerves kicked in.
She was terrified he'd lock her up again, drag her to the hospital, and force her into an abortion.
"Victoria."
"Alexander, abortion has risks too."
Victoria suddenly blurted it out.
