Chapter 1268 Surveillance, Until She Is Cremated
Chapter 1268 Surveillance, Until She Is Cremated
That afternoon, at the Harrington Group office building.
After Alexander took the call from the prison, his response was curt: "Got it. But I need confirmation."
"We'll keep watch until the cremation."
"Appreciate it."
Alexander hung up quickly.
Benjamin pushed through the door and looked at him. "Heard Isabella's getting out?"
"Supposedly within the next few days. What brings you here again?"
"Tessa's going on a business trip with her colleagues. Came looking for a little consolation."
Alexander said nothing, just glanced up with an uncomprehending look.
Benjamin explained irritably, "I know you're not doing great yourself, but—"
"Let's get one thing straight. My wife may not be able to see right now, but I'm doing just fine."
When Benjamin looked at Alexander again, he realized his friend actually seemed in good spirits. That only made him more agitated. After a pause, he muttered, "Tessa's talking about divorce."
"And you?"
"I worked my ass off to marry her. Why the hell would I divorce her?"
Alexander sighed helplessly, then smiled. "Guess it's finally my turn to watch you squirm."
Benjamin and Edward had been watching his drama unfold for long enough—even betting on what would happen with Victoria. He hadn't forgotten that.
Benjamin gave a wry laugh. "So this is what they call a reversal of fortune?"
"Yep."
"Should've kept my mouth shut back then."
Benjamin smiled, but suddenly shifted gears. "Though if Victoria's got some free time, you could actually have her put in a good word for me with Tessa."
"My wife's always had a high opinion of you. She's probably already said something."
Alexander dropped that line casually.
Benjamin stared at him in disbelief. "Are you serious?"
"About what?"
"Victoria has a high opinion of me?"
"She does. Though I've questioned her judgment on that front."
Benjamin immediately slumped back against the couch, offended.
But Benjamin knew full well that Alexander wouldn't let Victoria lift a finger these days. Even when Victoria went to see Olivia, he'd call ahead to make sure she didn't have to do anything.
A thought suddenly struck Benjamin. He sat up again and stared at Alexander for a few seconds.
Alexander glanced up. "What?"
"Think I saw Arthur with some foreigner at a club yesterday."
"The Jefferson Club."
Benjamin immediately named the place.
Alexander didn't waste words. He pulled out his phone and stood up, dialing as he moved to sit beside Benjamin.
The call connected quickly. "Yeah, it's been a while. I'll cut to the chase—I need you to do me a favor. Now."
Alexander hung up and waited for the results. Benjamin's expression grew more serious. "Arthur's not stupid. Would he really make a move on Victoria?"
"Isabella has something he wants."
Alexander's brow furrowed deeply. Isabella had claimed she didn't know who had kidnapped Victoria.
For now, all he could do was investigate the people in Isabella's orbit.
Ever since he'd taken Victoria's phone, that number had called once and then gone silent. So no one could say for certain who had put Victoria through all that suffering.
Arthur was Alexander's prime suspect.
Less than half an hour later, his phone received a video of Arthur entertaining a guest.
