Chapter 159: VA
Chapter 159: VA
Third person
“I thought the reality sank in after you cried for help?” Lucas mocked, his eyes shooting daggers at Adam. “If I think about what you tried to do to my woman, I still have this urge to kill you regardless.”
Adam's jaw clenched again at the mention of ‘my woman’. But he didn't say a word about it, he wouldn't dare.
Lucas placed the paper and pen that he was holding on the table. “Sign them now while I'm being nice,” he ordered, his voice a low growl that had Adam forcing a lump down his throat. Then he removed his feet from Adam's hand.
Adam cried out in relief.
Using his other hand as support, Adam tried to massage the hurt one into shape, but it was numb anyway. He looked up at Lucas, “My fingers… I—I can't sign.”
Lucas shot Adam a glare without saying a word. He didn't need to.
Adam swallowed, and quickly, he picked up the pen with trembling hands and scribbled his signature on the paper.
His jaw tightened when he finished signing. So he is actually divorced from Ashley right now? Tears burned at the back of his eyes. He loved her so much.
He blinked back his tears, his gaze returned to Lucas. He'd be safe at least. "Uhm, so does that mean nothing will happen to me?”
Lucas' gaze locked onto Adam's, his feet already leading him away. "I hope so."
“Wait, wait. That's not a yes or no,” Adam growled desperately, his voice suddenly finding courage.
Lucas paused in his tracks and then turned back. He started walking towards Adam.
Adam shook his head in fear. “I'm sorry, I didn't mean to raise my voice.”
“I almost forgot.” Lucas said when he reached. He placed the paper on the desk again.
“What's that?” Adam frowned.
Lucas ignored him and reached for the pen in his breast pocket instead. He pulled it open to a sharp knife-like tip.
Adam's eyes widened in fear as Lucas took his hand. He tried to resist, but Lucas's hard squeeze on his already bruised hand kept him still.
“W-what are you doing?” Adam managed to ask.
“Just extra authentication.” Lucas's lips curled into a small, wicked smile. “In case they need to be sure you're truly the one who signed it.”
Adam gasped. “That's not—”
Without warning, Lucas used the pen to make a cut on Adam's index finger. Adam winced, and blood seeped from the cut. Then he placed Adam's bloodied finger on the empty space at the back of the paper. He pressed and then lifted the finger, leaving Adam's fingerprint on the paper.
Lucas knew that it wasn't necessary, but he found Adam grossly annoying.
After what happened, Karen had been in hiding and she’d ditched her cell phone. Her only regret right now was the fact that bitch was still breathing.
She slipped on a black hoodie she'd packed earlier, making sure her face was well hidden under its cap. She made her way out of the hotel she was staying in, making sure to avoid the cameras.
At the phone booth, she made a call to her lover, Victor, telling him about her whereabouts and where to meet her, along with their fake passports.
Then she went back to her hotel to take a quick shower. She needed to be at the airport early and leave this Godforsaken place that Ashley has turned into a living hell for her. She'd call her parents once she got to her destination and tell them that she left. She can only hope that they'll be fine too.
Karen wiped a stray tear from her cheek. Once upon a time, she had everything she wanted until that ghost bitch showed up.
By the roadside, Karen stood with her bag, her eyes scanning the surrounding area warily as she hailed a taxi. Even though she was wearing a face cap that covered most of her face, she still felt anxious. It was as if someone would recognize her regardless.
Karen entered the car and adjusted her cap. "Take me to the airport."
The taxi drove away, but Karen's eyes were over her shoulder, her heart racing with every passing second. She checked her watch, her mind fixed on her meeting with Victor at the airport and she made a silent prayer for everything to go smoothly.
The taxi dropped her off at the airport, and Karen rushed to their designated meeting spot. She found a place to sit, her eyes glancing at the watch on her wrist nonstop, and her fingers tapped on her thighs anxiously.
Why was he late? He never is.
Or did the police get to him first?
She stood up and moved around carefully, her eyes scanning the area, but Victor was nowhere to be found.
Kary dialed his number yet again, but his phone was unreachable.
“Don't panic, don't panic,” she chanted to herself.
But panic set in as she spotted police officers patrolling the area. Her heart pounded, her wrist throbbing with anxiety.
Without thinking, she stood up, grabbed her bag, and started walking slowly, trying not to draw attention.
But as she moved away, one of them called out, "Hey, miss!"
Karen turned around briefly to confirm that she wasn’t the one being called. Her eyes locked onto the officer, and pulse quickened; he was indeed referring to her.
She hastened her pace. Her feet moved swiftly, her eyes fixed on the back exit.
“Stop there!” The officer shouted when Karen kept moving.
At this point, Karen's chest was heaving with fear and only one word came to mind—run!
And so she started to run, her bag bouncing against her back. “Move away!” She pushed through the crowd, desperate to escape.
Her legs kept moving forward swiftly, her eyes on the officers behind her.
As Karen turned a corner, she collided with another group of police officers. Her jaw dropped at the surprise and she tried to retreat but it was too late.
They handcuffed her, their voices firm as they read her rights. "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."
Karen struggled, her eyes wild with fear. "I have done nothing wrong! Let me go!" She kicked her legs, trying to break free, but the officers held her firm.
They dragged her away, Karen's screams echoed through the airport, her face contorted in desperation.
Valerie stood by a corner, watching calmly as Karen was taken away. She'd gotten a message thirty minutes earlier from the anonymous person. It said to come to the airport if she wanted to witness Karen's arrest.
She'd come down here with Elliot. She didn't tell Lucas about it. At least not yet. She knew that he'd insist on coming since he doesn't feel it's safe. But she didn't want him to bother.
Valerie suddenly felt a presence beside her. "It seems I enjoy this more than watching her drown,” the voice murmured with a chilling sensation. It wasn't just the coldness of the tone that sent shivers down Valerie's spine, it was also the words.
Her eyes shot open, and she turned to look at him. Her eyes widened as she recognized the face—Karen's lover and bodyguard, Victor Anderson.
Wait. Wait. What?! The anonymous messages… It can't be. But then it's possible, it explains a lot.
Impossible…
She just gawked at him like she was looking at a ghost. “A-Are you…”
“Yes, VA,” He finished calmly with a smirk, confirming her suspicions.
