The Game of Secrets

Clarissa’s POV

He thought he had me figured out. Damien always carried himself with this cool, collected aura, like nothing could ever shake him. But tonight, he had no idea who he was dealing with. He couldn't see it coming!

I wasn’t the timid Clarissa who used to tremble whenever he looked at me with those sharp blue eyes. No, tonight I was different. Maybe it was the wine still buzzing in my bloodstream, the influence of alcohol.

Or maybe it was the music still echoing in my ears from the party, or maybe it was the strange pull he had on me that tore away every fear I used to hold.

For the first time, I wasn’t scared of him.

I tilted my head, watching his unreadable face as I asked, “Why don’t you care about me, Damien? If you did, you would’ve been at the party tonight. None of this would’ve happened.” My voice carried more heat than I intended, and I caught the faint tightening of his jaw. He wasn’t used to me questioning him like this, and I relished the surprise flickering across his eyes.

He inhaled slowly, his gaze steady, his lips pressed into a thin line before he finally answered, “I was only trying to keep things private for the both of us.”

Privacy. That cursed word again. My blood boiled at the sound of it.

I slowly drew forward, my eyes blazing into his, like I was looking straight into his soul. “Privacy? I don’t want to hear anything about your reputation, Damien. Or this stupid need to keep everything hidden.”

His brow furrowed deeply, his dark eyes narrowing at me. “Clarissa,” he said, his tone low but sharp, “you assume you know everything about me just because we’ve been step-cousins. Just because we’ve known each other for so long. But the truth is…you don’t know me. Not really.”

I froze. His words cut sharper than I expected. Why did he suddenly sound so serious?

And he was right.

I didn’t know him. Not completely. He had been gone for over two years, living in the States and out of reach and sight.

The Damien who had returned wasn’t the same boy I once watched from afar. He was a man now… Looking so mysterious and burdened, with the way he speaks at times, I felt like he was holding secrets I hadn’t touched.

I swallowed hard, my pulse racing. “So what are you saying? That because you traveled, I’ll never know you?”

His lips curled into the faintest, almost bitter smile. “I’m saying there are too many things you don’t know about me, Clarissa.”

That confession did something strange to me. But instead of pushing me away, it pulled me closer and made me desperate to peel back his layers and see what he was hiding.

The thought consumed me: what should I do to know the secrets he is hiding beneath him? My heart pounded, as I couldn’t think of anything at that moment…and then an idea struck, a wicked, thrilling idea. Yes!

I smiled, slowly and deliberately. “Fine. If there are parts of you I don’t know… then let’s change that.”

His brow arched, confusion flickering in his eyes. “What do you mean by that? What are you thinking?”

I moved closer, my body swaying seductively just enough to let him see the way I wanted him to. My smile widened; it was playful but dangerous. “The night is young. We have drinks. We have each other. Let’s do what makes us happy.”

I came closer to him, my lips brushing his ear, my whisper hot against his skin. “Let’s play a game.”

His eyes darkened instantly, and he furrowed his eyes in surprise before he let out a low laugh that escaped his throat. “A game? Really?” And with that, He drew closer towards me until our noses nearly touched, his gaze burning into mine. “And what kind of game are you suggesting, Clarissa?”

My heart fluttered wildly in my chest. My lips parted, and I could see his eyes fixed on my lips. To kiss? Not yet!

But instead of answering right away, my eyes fell to his lips. For one reckless second, I wanted to devour him whole, but I caught myself, pulling back just enough to tease him. I could see the disappointment in his eyes. “Wait here,” I murmured.

His eyes followed me sharply as I turned and cat-walked to the kitchen, not too far from where we stood.

I bent down, letting him watch every deliberate sway of my hips as I opened the freezer. The cold air brushed my face as I pulled out a bottle of red wine. I straightened slowly, giving him a coy smile.

He tilted his head, his eyes narrowing slightly as though trying to read my every move. “What are you doing?”

“A drinking game,” I said simply, setting the bottle on the counter.

Then I walked back to him slowly, and my movements could immediately tell that it was all on purpose.

I placed one hand on his chest, pressing every part of it lightly against the firm muscle, and I let my palm drift upward until I could feel the hard outline of his nipple beneath the thin fabric of his shirt.

A shiver ran down my spine at the contact. I could hear him gasp at the touch.

My voice lowered, sultry and deliberate. I pulled my face closer to his. “Damien… if you think I have it all wrong, then let me in. Let’s play this game.”

He studied me carefully; his eyes were as sharp as blades, but then he nodded once. “Fine. No problem. But how about this? We make assumptions about each other. And if anyone gets it wrong…” He smirked, that dangerous curve of his lips making my knees weak. “…that person drinks.”

Excitement shot through me. This was perfect. A great idea! But I wanted more, something that could lead to the other…. Spicy night!

I licked my lower lip, leaning even closer. “Not just drinking.”

His eyes narrowed, suspicious but intrigued. “What do you mean?”

I smirked, slowly sliding my hands up to his collar and tugging him closer until our bodies brushed each other.

I let my lips touch his slightly, just for a second, before whispering, “If an assumption is wrong, you don’t just drink… you strip.”

For the first time that night, his composure cracked. His eyes widened slightly, shock flickering across his face. “Excuse me?”

I tilted my head, my smile widening. “Don’t worry. I’ll make you understand.”

Before he could argue, I grabbed the edge of his jacket, slipped it off his shoulders, and let it fall to the floor with a soft thud. His chest rose sharply, and I caught the faint clench of his jaw. He wasn’t expecting me to be this bold.

I drew closer to him again, my breath brushing against his lips. “If you get a question wrong, you remove one piece of clothing. One by one… until you’re fully NAKED.”

His eyes locked on mine; the stare was intense, and he was even blinking, searching for hesitation. Instead, all he found was fire.

A slow, almost dangerous smile spread across his face. He chuckled under his breath. “Are you trying to scare me, Clarissa?”

I raised a brow, biting my lip seductively. “Are you scared, Damien?”

For a moment, silence hung between us. Then he tilted his head back slightly and laughed, low and husky, the sound vibrating deep in his chest. His smirk returned, sharper this time. “No. Never.”

My pulse skipped. This was exactly what I wanted.

“Good,” I whispered, tracing my fingers along the buttons of his shirt. “Then let’s play.”

He picked up the bottle of wine from the counter, holding it casually in one hand, his eyes never leaving mine. “Alright. Let’s play your game.”

I couldn’t hide the smile tugging at my lips. My insides burned with anticipation, and yet a strange nervousness clawed at me too. What if I lost control? What if Damien saw through my little seduction?

I pushed the thought away. Tonight wasn’t about control. Tonight was about breaking rules.

I grabbed his hand, tugging him toward the sitting room. My other hand brushed against his shirt, tugging lightly as I led him across the dim-lit space. His footsteps followed mine, the bottle of wine glinting in his grasp.

I pulled him into the center of the room, the faint hum of the rain outside mixing with the low beat of my racing heart. I turned to him, biting my lower lip as I whispered, “Now the game begins.”

And he followed; his smirk never faded, and his eyes were burning like fire.
