Chapter 35 Chapter 35: Time To Get Settled
Sebastian Silverow's POV:

As I carried her out of the kitchen, I had a million things running through my mind at that moment. To say this newfound information complicated things a bit didn't quite cover. I didn't understand how another department leader of their SWAT team would be looking for someone who even remotely looked like her. She was a practical ghost. Abused and tormented. Mistreated wouldn't quite cover it.

I looked down at her when I turned to head up the next set of stairs. I was going to take her to the room where she would be staying. This particular room would be located right down the hall, which was close to mine.

I couldn't help it as I furrowed my brows at the complexity of the situation. I knew that this case surrounding her was going to be complex, but there was still so much about it that I didn't know.

Just as I reached her door, I noticed that Edwin was already standing there waiting. He opened it as she turned to look and see exactly where, just as I started to walk into the room we were headed. No sooner than she saw the bed, she immediately tried to flail in an attempt to get out of my arms.

"Whoa there, it's all right, be easy," I said in a reassuring tone as I stopped right there in the entrance. "It's all right. No one's going to hurt you."

Whenever I looked down at her, I noticed that she had curled up in my chest, turning her face into my shoulder as her arms wrapped around the back side of my neck. I didn't understand how she was fearful of the bedroom. It was a bit elaborate, but not as stunning as my own accommodations.

There was a canopy that hung over the bed and four corner posts to support it. Mesh curtains hung down at each post that could be tied to block out the sunlight. There was a small table in front of the window, set by the next two chairs positioned on either side of the table. The next window over had a balcony where she could go outside and overlook the terrace.

She was still flailing her legs slightly as she had her arms wrapped around my neck, which caused me to kneel down with her in my lap, still holding her close to my chest.

"What's wrong?" I couldn't help but ask in a reassuring tone. "You are all right."

She didn't respond to me, so I cursed under my breath in Russian.

Whenever I said that, it caused her to immediately stop as she looked up at me, as I was practically kneeling there down in the entrance of the doorway.

"Would you allow me to show you something?" I asked her in that moment as she looked up at me.

When I looked down at her, and my gaze met hers, I noticed that her cheeks were flushed red and that tears were brimming in her eyes, threatening to fall. This poor woman. She is practically been through hell and back.

"Edwin," I called out in a louder tone.

"Yes, sir," Edwin said as he walked up closer to me, where he was previously standing in the hall.

"Go and bring me one of those chairs," I instructed him, which caused her to turn around whenever she saw Edwin walk past him and over to the window where the chairs were located.

When Edwin walked back towards where I was still holding her, cradling her against me, I stood back on my feet. My grip on the young woman was protective and a bit tighter than it was whenever I originally carried her up here in the first place.

"Where shall I place the chair, sir?" Edwin asked as he said it out in front of me.

Sit behind this other door behind me," I told him as I stepped over to the side right in front of the dresser that was positioned there by the wall.

Edwin didn't just as I asked him to, and that's when I said, "That's good."

He didn't say anything else as he walked back over to stand in the open doorway and stood there waiting to see what else I might need. What I did next was walk over to the chair as I had attempted to set her down in it.

"It's all right," I told her in a reassuring tone. "I want to show you something. However, if you are fearful of traveling further into the room, I want you to be comfortable, which is why I have this chair set here for you. Turn and see."

I instructed her to turn around so that she could see the chair, as so far she was only looking at me and hiding her face in my chest. After a moment of me standing directly in front of the chair, she finally released her grip slightly and then looked back over her shoulder so that she could see exactly where I was going to place her.

"See?" I asked her in a soft-hearted tone. "I'm going to set you down here so I can show you what I have intended to show you. All right?"

She finally nodded as she sniffled a bit before I finally sat her down in the chair. Edwin walked up at that moment with the handkerchief, and he held it out for me to take so she could wipe her nose when she needed.

"Thank you," I told Edwin, taking the handkerchief from his outstretched hand, and then I held it in front of her.

"My pleasure, sir," Edwin said in response as she turned back to look at him, and he took several steps back to stand in the doorway once more, again positioning his hands behind his back.

She sniffled a few times more as she attempted to blow her nose, and I stood up in front of her.

"Now, I would like to show you something," I told her as I took several steps back, facing her, before I turned to walk towards the balcony door. "What I would like to show you is this."

When I said that, I reached for the small double-door handles and turned them slightly before pushing them out, then walking out onto the balcony itself. The temperature outside was fair, and it had a nice breeze that blew the sheer curtains hanging there by the window.

"This is your room if you will," I said as I walked further outside till I grabbed the banister railing. I made sure to speak in a louder tone so that she could hear me. "You are welcome to come out here anytime you choose."

When I said that last part, I turned around, leaned my back against the railing, and looked at her still sitting there in the chair by the door. I had crossed one ankle in front of the other as I held onto the railing before pushing, often walking back inside the room.

"What do you think about your new accommodations?" I couldn't help but ask her.
