Chapter 29 Chapter 29: How To Process This?

Chapter 29 Chapter 29: How To Process This?
Sebastian Silverow's POV:

I have so much on my mind that I needed to get a chance to step away, even for a brief moment, just to make a phone call. That way, she might be able to eat something while no one else is watching her. I do believe she has had far too much of that already. At least here, no one is going to walk in on her when she least expects it.

As I was heading back to my study to start the process of investigating her case, I knew I needed a chance to call my private personal physician, Dylan Mierson. I knew he would know exactly what to do in this situation for my newfound guest. He has studied abroad for a variety of things. He's treated patients in some pretty remote areas, so he is widely versed in a variety of cases that local doctors may not be.

Just as I was reaching up to grab the rail of the stairs to ascend them, Edwin came into view from downstairs and called out to me.

"Greetings, Master Silverow," Edwin called out to me as he stopped at the top stair, causing me to turn around to face him. "Do you have a moment?"

"Yes, Edwin, what is it?" I asked, sighing a bit as I looked forward to getting my investigation started.

"There is a guest for you, sir," Edwin said as he raised his hand towards the downstairs area, which is where the foyer was located.

"Who could this be now?" I questioned myself under my breath as I turned to walk towards Edwin.

"I do believe it is Chief Miller for you, sir," Edwin responded, hearing my statement, which didn't surprise me at all.

Oh, all right, I guess he was going to stop by now instead of later. He did say that he wanted to discuss something of importance in person rather than discuss it over the phone whenever I spoke to him earlier.

"Very well, show me the way," I said as I followed Edwin back down to the lower level.

"Yes, sir," Edwin said as he stepped aside, waiting for me to reach him before I followed him down the stairs.

When I came around the corner, as the stairs were curved, I saw Chief Miller standing there by the door. His hands were in his pockets, and he was looking down as he was slowly pacing about.

"Chief Miller," I called out to him as Edwin reached the base of the stairs and stepped to the side, placing his hands behind his back in the normal manner as he would. "I didn't expect you so soon."

Chief Miller reached out his hand to shake mine as I walked up to him, returning the handshake.

In a bit of a hushed tone, Chief Miller looked around before he said, "Do you have a place we can talk privately?"

He still shook my hand even after asking this particular question when I nodded to him and finally let go. This is not how I knew Chief Miller's normal character. Something was amiss, and I needed to figure out what it was.

"Sure, right this way," I said as I turned to head back towards the stairs. "We can discuss whatever it is in my study."

As we started up the stairs, Chief Miller spoke softly, asking, "We're not to run into anybody, are we?"

"That depends on who anybody is in this particular instance," I stated, looking back over my shoulder and stopping whenever I reached the upper landing.

Chief Miller again looked around before he looked back at me, speaking in the same low tone when he said, "Where is the young woman?"

"She's right that way, around the corner in the kitchen where I left her," I said, speaking in the same tone as I took a step closer to him. That's when I asked, "Would you kindly tell me what this is about?"

"I can certainly do that. However, can we discuss it in your study?" Chief Miller asked, still pressing to speak in a more private setting.

I'm not exactly sure how much more private he wanted to get. My office was private, yes. However, this was my personal residence. I had a security system that was unmatched, so it really made me wonder what he could be referring to.

"Very well," I said as I turned to head up to the next flight of stairs, where I was originally heading before Edwin had come to retrieve me. "We can discuss it in my study if that makes it easier."

Neither of us said anything as we continued up the next set of stairs and around the corner where my study was located. The lower entrance of my home, where the foyer was located, was on the same level as the circular drive. What I loved about where my place is located is not just that it was on the side of the cliff. I had actual rock walls that were naturally fit into the side of the mountain.

When we reached the door to my study, it was closed as usual. I opened up the door and walked inside, closely followed by Chief Miller. He didn't say anything as he walked over to take a seat in the chair opposite my desk, and I closed the door back before heading to sit down as well.

After I took a seat, I interlocked my fingers, placing them on the front edge of my desk, and asked, "Now, can you tell me what this is about?"

"I had an interesting visitor," Chief Miller started to say as he crossed one leg over the other by placing his ankle on top of his opposite knee. He even reached down and grabbed hold of his ankle so that it wouldn't slide off as he looked at me intently.

"What sort of visitor?" I asked, furrowing my brows as I was trying to piece together what he was getting at. "Was this back at the station, I take?"

"Yes, this was back at the station," Chief Miller responded, waiting for me to piece together the little information that I had already received.

"I'm sorry, sir. I still don't understand what you're trying to get at," I said as I continued to pay attention to the details that he had already given me.

"This particular individual claims to be looking for missing persons," Chief Miller said in a blatant tone.

I furrowed my eyebrows even more, wondering if this particular visitor had anything to do with the young woman in my company.

"You don't think it has anything to do with her, do you?" I asked, leaning forward this time, lowering my chin.

"Has she said anything about her name?" Chief Miller asked me.

"I haven't gotten much out of her," I said as I leaned back and turned my chair to the side. "While she was at the hospital, I even asked Doctor Meriket if her DNA panel came back to anything specific."

"What did she say?" Chief Miller asked, even more intrigued by this newfound information.

"Completely unknown."
