Chapter 617: The Best Decision

Chapter 617: The Best Decision

Preston saw the urgency in their faces and pleaded, "Mr. Sanctuary, you gotta understand me. How can you side with them? This is a golden opportunity. You really expect me to just give it up?"

Elmwood responded coldly, "I don't get you. We're different people. I'm ashamed of your decision."

Elmwood didn't judge whether Preston was right or wrong; he simply pointed out their differences.

Preston shook his head, turning to Melinda, "Mrs. Sanctuary, you've worked so hard to bring us together. You don't want to see us split up, right? Please talk to Yvonne, tell her to stop being upset. Once this is over, she can become Mrs. Douglas."

Melinda looked at him seriously and asked, "Be straight with me. Have your parents really accepted Yvonne? Have they truly agreed to let you marry her?"

Preston stammered, "They'll come around eventually. I've been working on them."

"So, they haven't. Yet you said you'd marry Yvonne as soon as you divorced Ottilie. That was just your excuse. You're not only deceiving her but also us. There might be many things you're hiding from us."

Since everything was out in the open, Melinda decided to lay it all out to avoid future disputes.

Preston shook his head repeatedly, "No, that's all there is."

"Do you think I can find out about the things you're hiding from Stanley?" Melinda didn't believe him and decided to use Stanley to pressure him.

Even Yvonne was shocked to realize Preston's words were lies. She asked coldly, "You didn't take me to your mother's birthday party a few days ago. Is it because they haven't accepted me?"

Yvonne should have realized it earlier. Given her status and mental health issues, how could she be accepted by such a prestigious family?

If they truly respected her, they wouldn't have agreed to the Blackburn family's demands and pressured Preston. These actions showed their lack of respect.

Unfortunately, she was too naive, never thinking deeper. She just wanted to hold onto Preston, even using Evander to achieve this.

She left Evander at the hospital, thinking Preston would have to take care of him, never considering that in Preston's mind, power and profit came first.

She failed to hold onto Preston and lost Evander's trust, feeling like the most unsuccessful person in the world.

If she had a chance to start over, she would choose Evander, who truly loved her, instead of clinging to Preston.

Preston, seeing her aggressive stance, said with a headache, "You know your situation. I've been trying hard."

Yvonne sighed deeply, "Enough. There's no need to say anything more. From now on, Evander has nothing to do with you. You can leave now."

Preston looked to Melinda for help, but she turned away, pretending not to see.

In the past, Melinda would have urged Yvonne to give him another chance. But trust had been exhausted and couldn't be rebuilt.

Preston approached Elmwood, "Mr. Sanctuary, please say something for me."

Elmwood replied coldly, "Sorry, I can't help."

He had once admired Preston for the changes he made for Evander, thinking he would be a good father. But reality proved him wrong; Preston's change was only temporary.

Preston wanted to pressure Yvonne into compliance, but now faced backlash as she decided to leave.

"Yvonne, listen to me. I really love you and Evander. I can't live without you."

"Save it. I don't believe you anymore. If you don't leave, I'll call the cops and report you for trying to kidnap Evander."

Yvonne's tone grew agitated, and Melinda, fearing she might have an episode, glared at Preston. "You made your bed, now lie in it. Don't provoke her further. Leave now."

"But..."

"No buts. I don't want to have to force you out," Elmwood interrupted, knowing Preston's words were just desperate lies, unworthy of trust.

Preston was genuinely worried this time, fearing Yvonne might truly leave him.

Facing their sharp gazes, Preston reluctantly left, looking back with every step.

Talking to Yvonne now was pointless. He pinned his hopes on Evander.

"Evander, Daddy was wrong before. I shouldn't have abandoned you. Can you forgive me? When you get better, I'll take you back home to catch fish and crabs, and we'll pick fruit in the mountains. How about that?"

These were Evander's favorite activities, and he used to jump with excitement at the mention of them.

But this time, he showed no reaction.

If getting these things meant being hurt, Evander would rather not have them.

He murmured, "I don't like those things anymore."

Preston was stunned by Evander's words. He sighed and left, feeling the weight of Evander's disappointed gaze.

Evander's look lingered in Preston's mind, making him realize the damage he had done, pushing them away.

The room fell silent, and Melinda sighed helplessly.

"Did you mean what you said earlier?"

Yvonne nodded, "I've made up my mind. I want to leave and start a new life."

Melinda and Elmwood exchanged a glance. "We respect your decision, but there's something you need to understand."

Yvonne looked at her, "What is it?"

"If you truly want to leave Preston, you need to do it completely. If you just go back to Polandale, he can visit you often, and your relationship will remain tangled."

Melinda was being honest. Preston wouldn't let go easily, and Yvonne was prone to wavering. This wasn't child's play; it required a clean break.

Yvonne thought for a moment and replied, "I want to take Evander and go with you. I know you're managing a farm. I can grow flowers and support myself."

Melinda would worry if they went back to Polandale, especially given Yvonne's condition. She couldn't trust her to take care of Evander alone.

Going abroad with them was the best choice, where Harrington could accompany him.

Melinda looked at Elmwood, "Dear, what do you think?"

Elmwood could tell from her relaxed expression that she had already made up her mind.

"I'll follow your lead."

Melinda nodded, "Your suggestion is good. Come with us and change your environment. There are no complicated relationships there, and Evander will have company. It's good for both of you."

Yvonne smiled, "So, you agree?"

Melinda nodded, "I agree. I'll have Allannah come and take you for a check-up to ensure everything is fine. Then you can go ahead. It'll be good for the kids to be together, and you can focus on your treatment."

Consider it repaying Jane for her kindness.
