Chapter 615: That Is Not Love

Chapter 615: That Is Not Love

Yvonne snapped back, "It's 'cause you keep saying I'm sick. Seeing those pills just reminds me of my problems, so I toss 'em."

Preston turned to the others for backup, "Mrs. Sanctuary, you heard her. Every time I remind her to take her meds, she accuses me of looking down on her. I don't even know what to say anymore."

Melinda asked, "Well, deep down, do you look down on her?"

Preston shook his head, "Of course not. I plan to divorce Ottilie and marry Yvonne, make her my legitimate wife, but she refuses."

Yvonne shot back, "Why wouldn't I refuse? Don't you get it? You wanna help Ottilie get out just to get the Blackburn family's assets. Have you ever thought about why that woman is so desperate to get out?"

"I showed you her medical records. She's really sick. Specialists have seen her. Why don't you believe it?"

"If she's that sick, she shouldn't be out. People like her should die in prison."

"I can't get through to you. This is between me and her. You don't need to interfere. Just stay by my side and take care of Evander. If you can't even do that, then you can leave."

Yvonne was stunned by Preston's words. Even Melinda and Elmwood were taken aback, realizing Preston had such thoughts.

"So you want me to leave?"

Preston sighed, "I want us to have a good life together, but look at yourself now. Do you still want that? You're always causing trouble. I have to handle company matters and social engagements every day, and then come home to deal with you. I'm exhausted."

"You finally said what you really feel. You've always looked down on me, and now you're just waiting for a chance to make me leave."

"You're too sensitive. I think we need some time apart to calm down."

Yvonne wavered, looking at him in disappointment, "How long do you want us to be apart? And what about Evander? Who will take care of him, you or me?"

Preston thought for a moment, "Evander can't be without his mother. He'll stay with you."

Yvonne nodded, "Fine. Where will we live?"

Yvonne had no family left except for Evander and Preston. In Charlington, she was completely alone. Now that Preston wanted to abandon them, where would she go?

Preston said, "I have a quiet house in the suburbs. You can stay there with Evander for a while and calm down before we discuss this further."

Yvonne laughed coldly, "You're kicking me out to complete your grand plan. You're really clever."

"Yvonne, don't make it sound so harsh. I'm doing this for our future." To Preston, she was being unreasonable.

Yvonne's lips curled into a smile, "Do we even have a future?"

Seeing Yvonne's hurt expression, Preston didn't comfort her. Instead, he spoke sternly, "If you meet my expectations, then we have a future. If you keep causing trouble, I'll have to reconsider."

Yvonne lowered her head in disappointment, not responding. Melinda, who had been silent, was so angry she wanted to flip the table.

Since she arrived, she had seen them blaming each other, with no one caring about Evander's well-being. When Evander saw them arguing, he would curl up under the covers. Couldn't they see that?

Melinda took a deep breath and spoke, "Preston, do you really love Yvonne? Think carefully before you answer."

If it were before, Elmwood wouldn't have hesitated to answer firmly. But this time, he hesitated.

Yvonne wanted to speak, but Melinda's gaze stopped her.

"I want him to answer for himself. You don't say anything."

After some thought, Preston replied, "Of course I still love her. Otherwise, why would I put up with so much?"

Melinda turned to Yvonne, "And you? Do you still love Preston? Not because he's your only support, but because you truly love him and want to spend your life with him."

Yvonne hesitated too. She had chosen Preston because he loved her. But now, she couldn't feel that love anymore. That intense feeling was fading. She suddenly realized that staying with Preston was like Melinda said, she had made him her only support. Beyond that, she found her answer.

Under Preston's confident gaze, she responded, "I don't want to."

Preston's expression changed, "Don't be stubborn. Who else can you choose besides me?"

Yvonne said, "If I had money and a house, I wouldn't have to live under your thumb. I stayed with you because I had no other option, but now I see you're not reliable."

Preston was furious, "I've been so good to you, and you say such ungrateful things. I shouldn't have risked saving you back then."

Melinda waved her hand to stop him, "Enough, both of you. Since you've seen your true feelings, there's no need to force it."

She turned to Yvonne, "Your mother has a house in Polandale. If you're willing to go back, I can arrange for you and Evander to be sent there. As for Evander's future expenses, I'll cover them."

As someone who was half like family to her, Melinda had to support her.

Elmwood added, "I remember Jane has a storefront in a good location that brings in income every month."

Melinda nodded, "You used to help Jane run the flower shop and even taught floral design. It shouldn't be hard to get back into it. You don't need anyone to support you."

Melinda wanted her to understand that she was capable of living independently and even better without Preston. Instead of living under someone else's control, she could create her own wealth with her own hands.

Yvonne's eyes lit up at the thought. It had been a long time since she had been around those beautiful flowers.

But Preston was anxious, "Mrs. Sanctuary, who advises someone to break up? You should be encouraging Yvonne to stay with me."

Melinda glared at him, "Stay with you for what? To be your punching bag or to let you bully her as you please?"

Preston raised his hand in a vow, "I've never bullied her. She's always arguing with me. I couldn't take it anymore, so we fought. But I still love her!"

"But you love your power and interests more. Now even Stanley is letting go, but you're still greedy for these things. One day, you'll regret it."

Years ago, Stanley abandoned Melinda and their child for these things, and he regretted it for years. Now it was happening to Preston. It seemed the Douglas family always learned to cherish only after losing.

Preston said, "I believe my choice is right. My divorce from Ottilie will be finalized in a few days. After that, she'll have nothing to do with me. I promised to marry Yvonne, and I haven't broken that promise. Why can't you understand my intentions?"
