Chapter 7 new job
Andrew's POV:
The moment she left my office, I started laughing to myself. Just the look on her face had already made my day. She hadn't even in her dreams have thought that anything like this would ever happen to her. I mentally saluted myself for my sharp mind. I didn't need to do much tho, just took a clause from her contract, bent and twisted it a bit, made amendments, and asked Mary to print it out and keep it on her desk under a pretty little paperweight. The look on Mary's face made it clear that she didn't approve of this childish act, but she knew better than to enlighten me with her precious remarks.
The fact that I had made her leave her other job didn't annoy her as much as the fact that I didn't even bother to hide that I knew about her other job, and made all these amendments so she could have no other choice than to resign from there. Why would I hide it? The sole purpose of all that was to make her realize and acknowledge the fact that my intentions are to toy with her. This was just the beginning. These were just some childish tricks I was going play just to warm her up for the real game.
After relishing the moment for a while, I went back to the work I was doing before she barged into my cabin.
Later in the gym, after I was done with my daily workout, I went to the changing room to take a shower and change back into my tracksuit.
As I made my way to the parking lot, I spotted William Roberts again. I was in no mood to interact with him, I never was actually. Spotting me, he rushed towards me. Without sparing him another glance, I went to my car, gave my gym bag to the driver, and was about to sit inside the car when William closed the car door and said, "Look, I know you don't like me, or maybe even hate me. But, just listen to me once, I have something so much important to tell you. I won't take much of your time, we can talk just here..." stopping him in the mid-sentence, I rested my hand on his shoulder and pushed him away.
I opened the car door and sat inside, closed and locked the door behind me. William stumbled back but didn't go away. Instinct told me to listen to him, but my ego won again this time. After what he had done to me, I was not ready for his bullshit anymore. I indicated the driver to drive away.
I was desperate to reach my penthouse to chase away all these flashbacks that were making their way into my mind again.
All those years ago in the hospital, I went to my mother's room. I froze at the door, shocked and frightened by all the tubes, pipes, and machines astringing my mom. I was finding it difficult to cope with the fact that my mother is on the ventilator. I drew in a breath and ran towards my mom. I looked at her face, all the bandages, blue bruises and red wounds made the bile rose into my mouth. I sat down on the floor and started weeping. I cried for a long time sitting on the cold floor.
For the next three days, I remained beside my mom in that room. I spent almost every second of wake or sleep with her. Three days later, we buried my mom and dad beside each other in The Cross Cemetery. The Monday morning, I woke up to the sound of my ringtone. First of all, I checked the time, it was 5 am in the morning, and then I checked the phone and saw that Jacob was calling me this early. I picked up the phone, turned on the speaker, and got up from the bed. As soon as I picked up the phone, Jacob started speaking, "Ohhh God, Andrew. I couldn't sleep the whole night."
I was confused. Jacob was the one who could fall asleep even on the hardest plank full of nails, "Why? Did you discover a ghost under your bed?""Come on, dude. I am not in the mood right now. Today is Monday, our meeting with Luca. I am kind of restless," I could hear him sigh on the other end
"You were the one who tried to convince me for the meeting in the first place, and now you being nervous like a five-year-old who was told to dance in front of the whole family." I said easily, to relax him a bit.
"I know. And I was cool with the idea at first, but as the hour is closing by, I'm being more and more nervous. Aren't you?"I am not nervous, there is nothing to be nervous about. I am more like a curious to know what Luca had in store for me.
I replied honestly, "No Jacob, why would I be nervous? And you shouldn't be too. I mean, it isn't like Luca will ask you on a date," I chuckled and then continued, "Just get ready. I'd be there in 30 minutes. We'll have a breakfast together."
Ending the call, I made my way to the bathroom. After taking a shower, I dressed up. Before leaving the penthouse, I checked myself in the mirror, and I was quite impressed with the reflection of myself; a royal blue suit, white shirt, maroon silk tic, brown leather shoes and hair puffed up to one side. Indeed, a handsome man.
I pocketed my cell phone and was about to leave the penthouse when I heard the doorbell. I opened the door and spotted Hanna on the other side. She had been looking after me since my childhood. At first, she was the maid in my parent's house, after their death, she started working in my uncle's house where I started living, and now she worked for me. She was in her 60s, a gentle lady with a small frame. She came every two days, cleaned up the house, made delicious dishes for me to savor. I've asked her so many times to get retired now but she was stubborn to not leave my side. Her stubbornness made me remember some other girl who was as stubborn as Hanna. But, at least, Hanna is not rude or ill-mannered, and Hanna definitely did not go around punching people on their noses.
I nodded and said in greetings, "Good Morning, Hanna. I was just about to leave."
"Would you like me making breakfast for you?" she asked with a smile on her face.
"No it's alright. I have plans with Jacob."
"Well then have a nice day, Mr. Davilla," she said with a motherly smile plastered on her face.
Hanna had always been gentle to me, always have been there for me but I have always tried to keep my distance. She always made me remind my mom with same warmth, love, and instinct to take care of me. And that is what I did not want from Hanna. My mom was dead and that was the fact, it was hard enough to cope with the death of one mom. I did not want to get attached to Hanna or feel those same emotions. I have transformed myself into a hard creature and that was what I prefer.
I nodded flatly in response and went out to the parking lot.
I was in the office when office phone rang, I picked it up, and there on the other end was the receptionist saying, "Good Morning, sir. It is to inform you that you have guests." I knew who was she talking about.
"It must be Luca Jacob. Bring him to my office," I said flatly.
I indicated to Jacob who was sitting on the couch to let him know. He nodded in response. For the one who was so nervous about this meeting, he was looking cool with it now and had a let's-get-over-with-it expression on his face.
"No sir, there are two people here.
Luca James and Alan Roberts." Aurora informed me.
I froze in my chair, breath stuck in my lungs, I could feel the blood starting to boil up in my veins. I needed to gather my calm because no way I was meeting them like I was losing my shit. I loosened my tie, took a deep breath, tightened it back, and spoke in the phone, "Sure, Ms. Aurora. Let them in,"
After pulling my shit together, I didn't have time to inform Jacob about the arrival of both bastards in a moment.
Two people entered in my office without knocking. One of them was a short man with a fat belly and a bald head, named Luca Jacobs. The other was a tall, broody man in his late 50s with a smirk on his face that I wanted to
slap away. How dare he step into my office? But I didn't let them see my irritation. I could see the shock on Jacob's face. I stood up from my chair, plastered a nonchalant smile on my face and greeted them, "Welcome Mr. Luca Jacob. Nice to meet you."
After shaking hands with Luca, I returned to my chair. I could see Alan's hand lingering in the air for a handshake but I pretended not to notice him. I didn't invite him here, he didn't let me know of his arrival, so, I was not obliged to be nice to him. After me, Jacob followed the suit, but he shook hands with both of them and asked
them to sit down.
That's good of him, we shouldn't be rude to guests, XD.
