Chapter 73

Chapter Seventy-Four:

The Betrayal of the Diamond.

Emily spent the next few days trying to come up with a plan. She couldn't ask Ethan for help, as she didn't want to endanger him.

Finally, she came up with an idea. She would pretend to be a jewelry appraiser and offer to evaluate the diamond for the man who wanted it. This way, she could get her hands on the diamond, and then deliver it to the man without raising suspicion.

She spent the next few days researching everything she could about diamonds, learning everything she needed to know to pull off her plan.

And then, she put her plan into action.

She made contact with the man and told him that she was an appraiser who could evaluate the diamond for him. The man was hesitant at first, but Emily was persuasive, and she managed to convince him to bring the diamond to her.

A few days later, the man arrived at Emily's cabin with the diamond. Emily took one look at it and knew that it was worth millions of dollars.

She spent the next few hours evaluating the diamond, taking detailed notes and measurements, and making sure that everything was in order.

Finally, she was done. She had the information she needed, and she was ready to deliver the diamond to the man.

But just as she was about to leave the cabin, she heard a knock on the door.

She froze, her heart racing. She knew that the man she had just made a deal with would never come knocking on her door.

She slowly made her way to the door, her heart pounding in her chest. She opened it slowly and was shocked to see Ethan standing on the other side.

"Ethan!" she said, her voice full of surprise. "What are you doing here?"

Ethan looked at her with a mixture of concern and anger.

"I've been worried about you," he said. "I know that something's going on, and I want to help you."

Emily felt a wave of guilt wash over her. She knew that she couldn't tell Ethan the truth, but she also knew that she couldn't lie to him.

"Ethan," she said, her voice barely audible. "I...I can't tell you everything. But please, trust me. I'm doing this for us."

Ethan looked at her with a mixture of confusion and concern.

"What do you mean?" he asked.

Emily took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves.

"I can't explain everything," she said. "But just know that I'm doing this to protect us. To protect our marriage."

Ethan looked at her for a long moment, studying her face.

Finally, he nodded.

"Okay," he said. "I trust you. But please, be careful."

Emily nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She knew that she had to act quickly before the man she had made a deal with realized that something was wrong.

She quickly said goodbye to Ethan and then made her way to the rendezvous point, where she was supposed to deliver the diamond to the man.

But as she arrived at the meeting place, she realized that something was wrong.

The man wasn't there.

Emily waited for hours, growing more and more anxious with each passing minute. Finally, she realized that she had been set up.

The man had tricked her, using her to steal the diamond, and then abandoning her as soon as he had what he wanted.

Emily felt a sense of rage wash over her. She had been used, and now she was alone, with no way to protect herself.

But then, she realized something. She still had the diamond.

And she knew exactly what she was going to do with it.

She made her way back to her cabin, and as soon as she arrived, she locked the door behind her.

She knew that the man would be after her, and she had to be prepared.

She took the diamond out of her pocket and examined it. It was even more beautiful up close than it had been before.

But Emily knew that she couldn't keep the diamond. She had to get rid of it before the man found her.

She thought for a moment, trying to come up with a plan. And then, an idea struck her.

She quickly grabbed a hammer and a chisel from her tool kit and began to chip away at the diamond.

It took hours of careful work, but finally, she had done it. She had reduced the diamond to a pile of small, worthless fragments.

Emily smiled to herself, feeling a sense of satisfaction. She had outsmarted the man who had tried to use her, and now, he would never get what he wanted.

But just as she was about to relax, she heard a sound outside. She froze, her heart racing. She knew that the man had found her.

She quickly grabbed a kitchen knife and made her way to the door.

She opened it slowly and was shocked to see the man standing on her doorstep. He smiled at her, a sly and satisfied expression on his face.

"Hello, Emily," he said. "I see that you've been busy."

Emily glared at him, her hands tightening around the knife.

"What do you want?" she asked. The man stepped forward, his eyes locked on the knife.

"I want the diamond," he said.

"And I want you to pay for what you've done."

Emily felt a surge of anger washes over her. She had done nothing wrong, and she wasn't going to let this man intimidate her. She stepped forward, her knife at the ready.

"You're not getting the diamond," she said.

"And you're not going to hurt me." The man laughed, a cruel and mocking sound.

"Oh, I think I am," he said.

"And there's nothing you can do to stop me." With that, he lunged forward, his hands reaching for Emily's throat.

Emily moved quickly, sidestepping his attack and slashing at him with the knife. The man stumbled back, clutching his shoulder in pain.

"You bitch!" he snarled.

"You're going to pay for that!" Emily lunged forward again, her knife flashing in the air.

The man tried to dodge, but Emily was too quick. She slashed at him again and again, her knife biting into his flesh.

Finally, the man fell to the ground, blood pouring from his wounds. Emily stood over him, panting and covered in blood.

She knew that she had done what she had to do to protect herself and Ethan.

And she was willing to do it again if she had to.

But just as she was about to catch her breath, the man's phone rang. Emily hesitated for a moment, then reached down and answered the call.
