Chapter 72

Chapter Seventy-Three:

After what seemed like hours, the door to the basement opened, and a tall man in a suit stepped in.

"Welcome," he said, his voice cold and menacing. "I've been waiting for you."

Ethan and Emily exchanged a worried glance, wondering what this man wanted from them.

"You're probably wondering why you're here," the man said. "Well, let me tell you. You've caused me a great deal of trouble, and I'm not one to let that go unpunished."

Ethan and Emily realized with horror that they had stumbled into the den of a powerful criminal organization.

"We didn't mean to cause any trouble," Emily said, her voice shaking. "We were just trying to do the right thing."

The man laughed a cold and heartless sound.

"Well, you certainly did cause trouble," he said. "And now you're going to pay for it."

He motioned to his men, who stepped forward, their guns drawn.

Ethan and Emily prepared to fight, knowing that this was probably the end.

But just as they were about to be shot, there was a loud crash from above.

The men turned to look, their attention momentarily diverted.

Ethan and Emily took the opportunity to grab their guns and fight back.

They managed to take down a few of the men, but they knew that they were still in trouble.

Just as they thought they were done for, a group of police officers burst into the room, guns drawn.

The criminal organization was finally taken down, and Ethan and Emily were rescued.

As they made their way back to their cabin, Ethan couldn't help but feel a sense of relief.

They had made it through the worst of it, and they were alive.

But he knew that they were still in danger and that they would have to be careful.

He turned to Emily, his voice shaking.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

Emily nodded, a look of gratitude on her face.

"Thanks to you," she said. "I'm okay."

Ethan smiled weakly, glad that he could protect her.

They settled back into their cabin, hoping that they could finally start a new life together, free from danger and fear.

But their peace was short-lived.

One day, while Ethan was out running errands, Emily received a visitor.

It was a man she had never seen before, but he seemed to know her.

"Emily, my dear," the man said, his voice smooth and slick. "It's so good to see you again."

Emily felt a chill run down her spine. She had no idea who this man was, but she knew that he was in trouble.

"Who are you?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

The man chuckled a cold and humorless sound.

"You don't remember me, do you?" he said. "Well, let me refresh your memory. We met a few years ago, at a little soirée in Paris."

Emily's mind raced, trying to remember who this man was.

And then it hit her. This was the man she had met at a party, the one who had tried to get her drunk and take advantage of her.

She remembered how Ethan had come to her rescue, how he had fought off the man and taken her home.

But now the man was back, and he seemed to have a score to settle.

"I see you remember me," the man said a sly smile on his face. "Good. Because I have a proposition for you."

Emily shook her head, backing away.

"I don't want anything to do with you," she said. "Leave me alone."

The man's smile faded, replaced by a look of cold anger.

"You don't understand," he said. "I have something that belongs to you. Something that you need."

Emily felt a sinking feeling in her stomach. She had no idea what he was talking about, but she knew it couldn't be good.

"What do you mean?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

The man leaned in close, his breath hot on her face.

"I have proof," he said. "Proof that your marriage to Ethan is a sham. Proof that you're only with him for his money."

Emily felt a wave of nausea wash over her. She knew that this man was lying, but she also knew that he had the power to destroy everything she had built with Ethan.

"What do you want?" she asked, her voice shaking.

The man smiled a cold and heartless sound.

"I want you to do something for me," he said. "Something that will make us both very rich."

Emily knew that she had no choice. She had to do whatever he wanted or risk losing everything.

"What do you want me to do?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

The man leaned in close, his lips brushing against her ear.

"I want you to steal something for me," he whispered.

Emily felt a cold sweat break out on her skin. She knew that this was going to end badly.

"What do you want me to steal?" she asked, her voice barely audible.

The man leaned back, a sly smile on his face.

"A diamond," he said. "A very valuable diamond. And I want you to get it for me."

Emily knew that this was going to be dangerous, but she also knew that she had no choice.

She had to do whatever it took to protect herself and Ethan.

She nodded, her eyes full of fear.

"I'll do it," she said. "But you have to promise to leave me and Ethan alone after this."

The man chuckled a cold and heartless sound.

"I'll make you a deal," he said. "If you get me the diamond, I'll leave you and Ethan alone. But if you fail, or if you try to double-cross me, then I'll make sure that everyone knows the truth about your marriage. You'll lose everything."

Emily knew that she had no choice but to agree to the man's terms. She nodded, her mind racing with fear and uncertainty.

"Okay," she said, her voice barely audible. "I'll do it."

The man smiled, a sly and satisfied expression on his face.

"Good," he said. "I'll be in touch with you soon. And remember, Emily. If you fail me, you'll regret it."

With that, the man turned and left the cabin, leaving Emily alone with her thoughts and her fear.

She knew that she had to act quickly if she wanted to protect herself and Ethan. She had to find a way to steal the diamond and get it to the man without getting caught.

It was going to be a dangerous mission, but she knew that she had no choice.

She had to do whatever it took to protect herself and the man she loved.
