Chapter 74

Chapter Seventy-Five:

"Hello?" she said. There was a pause, and then a deep voice spoke on the other end.

"Emily, this is the boss. I see that you've taken care of our problem." Emily felt a chill run down her spine. She had just killed a man, and now she was talking to his boss.

"What do you want?" she asked, her voice trembling. The boss chuckled.

"Don't worry, Emily. I'm not going to harm you. I'm impressed by what you've done. You're a tough woman, and I think you could be an asset to our organization."

Emily's eyes widened in disbelief. She had just killed one of this man's men, and now he was offering her a job?

"I'm not interested," she said firmly. The boss sighed.

"That's too bad, Emily. You could have had a bright future with us. But I understand that you have other commitments." With that, he hung up.

Emily stood there for a moment, staring at the phone in her hand. She had just killed a man, and now she was being offered a job by his boss.

It was all too much for her to handle. She sank to the ground, tears streaming down her face. Ethan found her like that, moments later.

"Emily!" he exclaimed, rushing over to her.

"What's happened?" Emily looked up at him, her face contorted with grief.

"I killed a man," she whispered.

"And now his boss wants me to work for him." Ethan's eyes widened in shock.

"What are you going to do?" he asked.

Emily shook her head. "I don't know," she said.

"I just want to forget about all of this."

Ethan helped her to her feet, and together, they made their way back to their apartment. As they walked, Emily couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched.

She glanced over her shoulder, but there was no one there. It was just her imagination, she told herself.

But as they reached their door, Emily felt a sudden pain in her neck. She reached up to touch it, and her fingers came away slick with blood.

Ethan caught her as she fell, his eyes wide with fear.

"Emily!" he cried.

"What's happened?" Emily's vision blurred as she struggled to speak.

"Someone...someone injected me..." she gasped.

"I think...I think it was the man's boss..." Ethan's face darkened with anger.

"I'll find him," he said firmly. "I'll make sure he pays for what he's done." Emily tried to protest, but her world went black as she lost consciousness.

When she woke up, she was in a hospital bed, with Ethan sitting beside her.

"What happened?" she asked groggily. Ethan looked up at her, his face lined with worry.

"You were poisoned," he said.

"But you're going to be okay." Emily closed her eyes, relief flooding through her.

But even as she lay there, recovering, she couldn't shake the feeling that someone was still after her.

She had outsmarted the man who had tried to use her, but now she was caught up in something much bigger and more dangerous.

And she knew that she would have to be ready for whatever came next.

Days passed, and Emily was discharged from the hospital. She and Ethan had been discussing what to do next, and they both agreed that they needed to find out who was after her and why.

They started investigating on their own, going to different places, and talking to different people. They were cautious, knowing that they could be in danger at any moment.

One day, while they were out, Emily saw a familiar face. It was one of the men who had been with the man she had killed.

She pointed him out to Ethan, and they followed him discreetly. He led them to a building on the outskirts of town, and they watched from a distance as he went inside.

"We need to get closer," Ethan said. "We might find something useful."

They moved closer, trying to stay hidden. But suddenly, Emily's foot hit a loose stone, and it clattered loudly on the ground.

The man inside heard it and came out, his eyes scanning the area.

Ethan grabbed Emily's arm and pulled her behind a nearby dumpster. They held their breath, hoping that the man wouldn't find them.

But he did.

He pointed his gun at them, a smirk on his face.

"Well, well, well," he said. "Look what we have here. It's the woman who killed my boss's man."

Emily and Ethan exchanged a worried glance. They knew they were in trouble.

"What do you want?" Ethan asked, trying to keep his voice steady.

The man laughed.

"I want you to come with me," he said. "My boss wants to have a word with you."

Emily and Ethan had no choice but to follow the man. They were led to a room deep in the building, where the boss was waiting for them.

He was a tall, intimidating man, with piercing eyes that seemed to see right through them.

"Welcome," he said, gesturing for them to sit down. "I believe you already know who I am."

Emily and Ethan nodded, not daring to speak.

"I have a proposition for you," the boss said. "I want you to work for me. You've already proven your skills, and I could use someone like you in my organization."

Emily shook her head.

"I'm not interested," she said firmly.

The boss's face hardened.

"You should be careful, my dear," he said. "You don't want to make an enemy of me."

Ethan spoke up.

"We're not afraid of you," he said. "We know that you're the one who poisoned Emily, and we won't let you get away with it."

The boss's expression softened slightly.

"Ah, I see that you're a man of honor," he said. "Very well. I'll make you a deal. If you agree to work for me, I'll spare your lives."

Emily and Ethan looked at each other, unsure of what to do.

The boss leaned forward.

"Think about it," he said. "I'll give you some time to consider."

With that, he got up and left the room, leaving Emily and Ethan alone.

They sat in silence for a few moments, each lost in their thoughts.

Finally, Ethan spoke up.

"We can't work for him," he said. "We have to find another way."

Emily nodded.

"I agree," she said. "But what can we do?"

Ethan thought for a moment.

"I have an idea," he said. "But we'll need some help."

He pulled out his phone and made a call.

"Hey, it's me," he said. "I need your help with something..."

Hours later, Emily and Ethan were standing outside a warehouse, waiting for their contact.
