***Chapter Nineteen***
“Wait, you mean to tell me the guy that doesn’t see you that way almost kissed you?” Cameron found enjoyment out of this.
He only found this comical because he said that Drew might have a thing for me, too. I still wasn’t believing him because it made little sense. I’m sure it was a misunderstanding, and it meant nothing to how we all were thinking. That doesn’t change how nervous I felt about the whole ordeal. He held me so close and so firm with our lips inches a part. If he hadn’t told me to get out of there, he might’ve gone through with it.
There was no time for jokes, as this wasn’t a laughing matter. Juliana would kill me if she found out we came close to kissing. Not to mention we went to hang out with each other without her knowing. She went crazy over the hat that belonged to me. Imagine if she found out we’ve been spending a lot of alone time too. Drew wouldn’t hear the end of it and I’d, once again, be dead.
Still, my heart couldn’t shake how happy I was to get an ounce of recognition from Drew. It wasn’t all the answers like I wanted, but it could’ve been something. Trying to pry it out of Drew wouldn’t bode well. He was always switching topics whenever something serious needed to be talked about. I wish he would just say what was on his chest instead of beating around the bush. It’ll make situations like these a lot easier.
Sighing, my mind couldn’t fathom what would have happened. “I’m miss understanding his actions, right?” I question. “It’s just like when he first wanted my hat. I thought it was something else, but it was just my hat.” I tried to reason with myself.
Dillon didn’t seem to agree with that. “I don’t think he would’ve told you to get out of there if it were anything else,” she argued. “Even you said he called you Anna. Drew never has done that.”
“I just want you to admit I was right already,” Cameron chimed in.
I punched his arm, laughing at him. I’d never admit that because he wasn’t right. Instead, he was wrong and Drew meant it when he said he valued our friendship. I had to take his word for it, even if things may appear to be different. The comfortability we had with one another was only growing. That could be why things feel out of place. It’s my mind playing tricks on me. Sure, Anna, sure.
The good news is that we made plans for me to get my first tattoo! It was going to be scary, but as long as he keeps up his end of the bargain, then I’m hopeful. There’s no telling what he was going to pick for me to get. It could be several things he’s thinking. I’m hoping it was something cute that’ll relate to me. Cameron seemed to think it would be this big confession that Drew liked me, but I ignored him. There’s no chance of that happening.
“I can’t believe you’re getting a tattoo,” Dillon said, surprised. “Where are you going to put it?”
Shrugging, I have thought little about it. “Well, it’s small, so anywhere you could get a small tat,” I say.
“How about your ankle? That might look nice,” Cam suggested.
Dillon smirked. “You could also do on your side right under your breast.” She was always coming up with wild things.
My cheeks flush. “Wouldn’t it show a little while I’m getting it?” Of course, that was my concern. I didn’t want some stranger seeing my breast, let alone Drew.
“It disturbs me how innocent you are,” she says to our laughter.
I didn’t mean to be so innocent. Since I didn’t have many friends in high school, I done nothing wild. The wildest thing I ever done was recently when they’ve made me drink alcohol. Everything was out of my comfort zone, but that’s what I had these guys for. They were pushing me to experience things I wouldn’t have else wise. Doesn’t mean it all would be good, but it’s all about that college experience.
We continued to talk about the tattoo and laugh. It felt like a long time since it was just us 3. We’ve been spending so much time as a group that I forgot what it felt like just having us. This was great and something I’ve missed. It didn’t last very long once Juliana came walking over to us. She looked completely exhausted, but didn’t hesitate to sit down. She was our friend, after all. It felt awkward since I haven’t seen her since the party.
That didn’t stop me from smiling at her. She looked like she needed someone to. The way she seemed out of breath and fatigued all around told me she was busy. The thing she said shouldn’t have surprised me how it did. Though I’m excited to see her perform.
Letting out a breath, she finally spoke to us. “Hey, sorry, guys. I needed a breather.” She apologized.
“You’re fine, though I’m curious what’s got you so worn out.” Cameron said what we were all thinking.
She sighed again. “It’s the dance team. With football season starting next week, we have a big performance at the first game.” She explained. “And as captain, I’ve been busting my butt to put a good number together.”
Dillon nodded. “Ah, so girl problems,” she joked. “But seriously, we can’t wait to see you perform.”
“I bet it’s going to look amazing!” I say in excitement.
It’s true. She was practically good at everything else. It’s no doubt in my mind she wouldn’t nail it at the football game. That just means she was going to be a lot busier and I couldn’t tell if that was good or bad. With the semester getting kicked into gear and Julie having two majors, she was going to be around a lot less. Not to mention the fact that she’s also on the dance team that will surely take a lot of time. I’m not sure how she was going to pull it off, but more power to her.
The other good news being that sports were about to kick off and there were going to be so many games we could get into. The endless amount of activities to choose from would make for a great Saturday night. Plus, watching Julie perform every halftime would make for great entertainment, too. She was so lucky to do stuff like that. It’s no wonder Drew wanted her to be his girlfriend. The talent and brains she possessed were unmatched.
That made Julie smile, as she’s been needing to hear that all day. “Thanks guys. Make sure you bring Kayla too,” she told Cam.
He chuckled. “I will don’t worry,” he smiled.
Julie stood up. “I better get going before they look for me again.” She said reluctantly.
Everyone else stood up as well. “Yeah, gotta get to my next class,” Dillon said. “What are you going to do, Anna?” She asked me.
“I’m supposed to meet Keegan soon. Don’t want to be late,” I say.
Finally, Keegan was going to come see me for real this time. My initial interest in him dwindled, I was still happy to see him. It’ll bring back that eagerness of wanting to get to know him. While also not using him to get over Drew. So long as he keeps to his word, things should work out fine. My biggest concern was him not showing up again.
Cameron smirked at me. “Oh, it’s a date then?” He wondered.
I roll my eyes. “It’s not a date. I’m just giving him a second chance,” I say.
He snickered. “Can’t wait to hear about it. Stay safe!” He yelled before running off.
I laugh, heeding his warning. There wasn’t anything to worry about since we would not do much. My nerves were getting the best of me, realizing he and I would be alone. His intentions were unclear, but I had to remind myself this is what dating was. It’s a lot easier when you know the guy already, like I know Drew. Though I find out, there’s a lot about him I don’t know either. Regardless, I’m still looking forward to this day with Keegan. A hot guy like him knows how to make any time a good one.
