Chapter 56 Chapter 56

Chapter 56 Chapter 56
Elara's POV

I watched as the familiar surroundings sent trifles of nostalgic feeling down my body.

“Are you cold?” Davis' deep voice reverberated as Jake drove us into the estate that once felt familiar.

Although his Mercedes provided some sort of solace, what was coming was inevitable. As much as Caspian had assured me that my parents couldn't wait to see me, there was this anxiety at the pit of my stomach of how I'd failed them.

“Relax, will you?” Davis muttered, while he took off his jacket and placed it around my exposed thighs.

“Easy for you to say.” I retorted.

Instead of saying anything else, Davis turned back to whatever it was he was doing on his iPad while I pressed the button that rolled the tinted window of his Mercedes and busied myself taking in the beauty FortPine was.

Soon, the car made its way into the beautiful driveway of the magnificent mansion that stood at the end of the most beautiful mass of land with a grand view.

Four years.

She had been away from the Park's mansion for four years.

While she tried to hide the tears that were starting to gather, she swallowed the welcoming windy scents and fragrance of magnolias scattered around the field as the door burst open with a forceful gust and Mrs Morrison came running out.

“Ms Elara!” She squealed, running forward like her life depended on it.

My lips splitted in a wide grin as I ran across to meet her. I plummeted into the warm pillowy bodice of Mrs Morrison.

“For godsake, you've grown so thin. I must feed you with the fattest lamb. Or would you prefer a steak?” She spurted, allowing little or no room for me to mutter any word.

“Oh dear. We've missed you.” She cried.

Finally, I extricated myself from her arms and dared to look behind her, not daring to hope for the impossible.

Instead of Kathy and Bill Park, Caspian stood with a big smile plastered on his face and beside him was Corian, grinning as though he had just won a terrific trophy.

“About time, Kiddo.” Came Caspian rasped but efficient and calm voice.

I ran towards him and threw myself into his arms as he caught me deftly.

“Caspian–” I said in a sob as my voice caught.

“Elara…” He murmured, allowing his voice to carry with the wind.

I passed Corian a silent look of gratitude as Caspian registered that I was with company.

“Davis Trent.” He muttered.

While Corian scowled and mouthed to me why he didn't see why I had to bring with me my Nemesis' father, I swallowed the urge to explain to him that everything had been arranged by the devil himself.

Davis nodded gruffly in acknowledgment to Caspian's greetings while he didn't even spare Corian a glance.

“Come, let's go in.” Mrs Morrison asserted with a wide smile while she took my arms.

“Wait.” I croaked snidely, my feet stalling, until finally making an abrupt stop.

“Mother… Father–” I started to say but stopped, unable to imagine how they couldn't even bear to step out to welcome me.

“Don't worry, kiddo.” Caspian stated with a glint in his eyes.

“What do you mean?” I bit out, trying my best not to snap at him, especially as it seems that years away hadn't toned down how much I hated him calling me ‘kiddo’.

“You'll find out when you go in.” He answered and proceeded to usher Davis in.

I tried not to think too much of the fact that Caspian seemed more excited about Davis' visit than he was to see me. But that was impossible, wasn't it? Davis was after all the enemy's father.

“Caspian? What's all that ruse about? And where's Mrs Morrison? Dinner should be served now, your father is rather famished.” Came mother's soft voice, which carried from the top of the stairs.

My feet faltered as I realized they hadn't been told I was coming.

I fixed Caspian a glare. He shrugged with a lopsided grin.

“It's a surprise.” He mouthed.

“Have Mrs Morrison serve dinner upstairs. Your father and I would dine privately.” She announced.

“That wouldn't be necessary, Mother.” Caspian slurred.

Startled, Kathy Park released a sound that sounded like a sigh.

“I know, darling–”

“Mother.” I whispered, cutting her off from what she was about to say.

She stopped speaking, and everywhere grew quiet. I could almost hear the thud of her heart as she thought if what she heard had been correct.

“We have company, Mother.” Caspian broke silently.

Everything happened so fast at that moment. Soon, we heard feet pelting down the stairs as mother ran down.

“Elara?” She whispered inaudibly as I made myself visible, making my way to the large stairway.

The noise seemed to have gotten father's attention as well since he too suddenly appeared.

“Elara!” He bellowed.

Before I knew it, I was swamped. And for the life of me, I cried.

“My goodness… I can't believe it's you.” Mother crowed, leaning backwards a bit to have a better look of me.

“Mother!” I whispered.

Father crested my face into his palm, and I trembled from the pain I saw in his eyes.

“I made you worry, father.” I murmured.

“It doesn't matter now that you're back.” He returned, his eyes filling with tears. “Afterall, I was the one that pushed you away.”

“Don't blame yourself, now. It's all my fault. I should have listened to you.” I muttered, tears spilling down my face.

“Is that why you went to marry his son, instead? To teach me of my errors?” Father voiced.

For a moment, I was confused, until I followed his gaze and saw that it was on Davis.

“Oh my god, no!” I blurted.

“Then, what is he doing here?” Father asked, his voice registering for the first time since our reunion his animosity.

“Father, let me introduce you to our newest partner. Davis Trent.” Caspian said.

“I believe we are already acquainted.” Davis muttered dryly.
