Chapter 39 Near death experience
Chapter 39 Near death experience
Auren
The tension in the air since yesterday has been so thin, my fingers could slice through it. Asha for some reason won't talk to me. She just greets me anytime we run into each other, and then keeps walking.
It's not supposed to bother me. On a normal day, I wouldn't give a fuck, but I can't help trying to rewind to the day before, and remember what I did wrong.
The day goes by in a blur. Nothing eventful happens. My men are hurt, so they can't go on actively looking for Rheagar. There's no intel coming in, no mission to go on, and fucking hell Asha won't even look at me!
Night arrives eventually. Everywhere is quiet, and beautifully dark. I quickly head towards the kitchen to grab a bag of chips.
Very important.
I grab my bag of chips then make my way through the quiet as fuck hallway, and towards an exit door. It's so suffocating in here, I can't breathe.
I pad across the cold floor, and reach an exit glass door. I gently open it, and go outside.
The cool night breeze kisses my face, then goes to caress my skin lovingly.
I hold my bag to my chest as I slowly make my way towards the pool. The thought of swimming crosses my mind, but I brush it off. It's too cold for that.
The left part of my chest feels horrible. Like a huge stone was placed there, and it's blocking out something. I've been feeling this on and off since morning, and it won't leave me alone.
I press my lips into a thin line, stifling back a groan as the dull pain comes back again with full force. This time it feels like the stone is jabbing at my chest.
"What is wrong with me?" I mutter, opening the bag of chips.
I wait till the annoying ache is gone, before sitting beside the pool.
It feels so quiet without Asha's yapping, and Lucien's nagging. A flicker of sadness rests upon my chest when I think of them. I wish I had both of them here right now... They'd just yap and nag at me endlessly till I—
I shake my head to snap out of these thoughts. Do I... miss them?
That's impossible.
I throw three chips into my mouth. Fuck it, I'll just think of something else.
I try to think of something else other than those two when the pain comes back. It's so not friendly this time around. It wraps itself around my heart, tightening its hold like thin ropes.
The pain is so severe I feel my vision slowly blurring out.
"What the fuck?" I cough out a warm, metallic liquid.
Dread settles on my chest. I flick at the corner of my lips, then take a look at my fingers to see blood.
"Blood? What's happening to me? Last time I checked my body was in good shape," I frown deeply.
Have I been poisoned? Is anyone trying to kill me? Is any of Rheagar's men in my circle giving him Intel from the inside? Countless questions flood my head, but I can't get an answer for any of those.
I cough again, more blood trickling down the corner of my mouth. I watch in horror as my hands go stiff, and I feel the blood slowly draining out of them.
The stone in my chest has most definitely turned into a boulder snatching the air out of my lungs. Every inhale I take in is so painful, my nostrils burn.
Something's not right.
These aren't the effects of any poison I know. I'm so sure of that.
Oh, I know every poison in this pack, and beyond. All of them.
I struggle to get up, but the blood in the veins there have stopped pumping.
I think I'm dying.
I clutch my chest, the pain becoming unbearable. All the oxygen has stopped flowing to my brain. I can see my life flashing before my eyes.
"Auren? What the fuck? Why are you so blue?" A sweet voice fills my ears.
I try to look in the direction of where its coming from, but I can barely move. I collapse to the ground gasping for air.
Soft hands wrap around my neck, "Auren! Oh my gosh! What's happening to you?"
I recognize that voice. Even if my soul is on the verge of leaving my body I would recognize that sweet voice anytime.
Asha.
"As..ha," I cough out weakly.
She cradles my head to her warm bosom. I instantly melt into her warm, soft goodness. Her warmth seeps into my head, the heat crawling to my neck. I take in a whiff of fresh air, and it's suddenly not so painful anymore.
The stone slowly disintegrates from its painful spot in my cheat. I can feel the blood pumping again. The color is slowly returning to my face too.
Fuck, I feel alive again.
My vision also begins to clear up. I blink a few times, before her frame comes into view.
"Are you okay?" She asks, her eyes wide like saucers.
I digest whatever just happened all in a span of five minutes. I thought I was dying. I was so close to the other side, but then this little lady comes along, and holds me once, and everything is okay.
Is she my medicine now?
She grimaces at me as if she just read my thoughts.
"You saved me," I manage to say with a squeaky voice.
"You looked like you were about to pass out. I think you're sick," she feels my forehead for my temperature.
"Your temperature seems fine," her brows knit together.
"I am fine, I just.. I can't even explain what happened to me," I scratch my hair.
Then it comes rushing back.
That I can't say, but what I can say is this. Auren, you're physically tied to her, you can't be away from her, I mean this in the literal sense
The seer's words come flooding in my ears. I blink slowly, realization dawning on me.
I groan, smacking my face. I didn't know this would occur even while we're in the same vicinity. Fuck, I'm literally tied to her until I find a solution for this tangled mess we're in.
I let out a sigh, "This is the reason you shouldn't leave me. I mean this in the literal sense."
