Chapter 73 Chapter 72

Chapter 73 Chapter 72
Evelyn.

One of the maids paused in her task and met my gaze. Her eyes were somber even as she pursed her lips."The Alpha King has ordered that we prepare you for the mating ritual," she replied, her voice flat.

My heart sank. The anger and resentment that had been building inside me erupted like a volcano. The Alpha King had the audacity to summon me for such a ceremony, despite my rejection and everything I've been through with him? I shook my head, balling my hands into fists. I would not become a pawn in his cruel games.

As the maids continued to tend to me, combing and dressing me in ceremonial clothing, I bided my time. Once they were through dressing me up, a platter of delicious food was brought into the room for me to feast on. Despite the gnawing hunger that had been with me since the dungeons, I could barely eat. I only managed a few bites before I gave up and decided to go the Alpha king's chambers.

They let me go, not accompanying me and I was grateful for that. I immediately rushed to my crib, keeping watch of my surroundings. I entered the dark room, my eyes scanning it before darting to the small wooden table in the corner of the room. There, gleaming in the dim light, was the blade I had forged in secret. I rushed towards it, taking it into my hands.

As I held it in my hands, I felt a surge of determination. This time, I wouldn't hesitate. The Alpha King had pushed me to my limit, and I would do whatever it took to ensure he could never hurt me again. The blade became my silent companion, a symbol of my newfound resolve. I immediately hid it within the layers of clothing that I had on and started to the Alpha King's chambers, my back prickling with sweat.

If was a chill evening but I was sweating as I walked up to the Alpha king's chambers. There was an ominous feeling in the air and everywhere was strangely silent, not even sounds of the night animals could be heard at all. I reached the doors of the Alpha King chambers, glancing around as the usual guards that used to be present there were nowhere in sight, causing me to feel a strange sense of unease. I brushed a hand against the blade hidden away in my clothes and taking a deep breath, I steeled myself, knocking on the door of the chambers, waiting for a reply.

This continued for a long time but nothing was forthcoming. Slightly addled by this, I pushed the door open and walked into the oppressive darkness that was the Alpha king's room. My heart skipped several beats, the stench of alcohol assaulting my nose, causing me to scrunch it up in disgust. Squinting my eyes, I looked around, seeking him out, but I didn't find him anywhere in the room. Even his domineering aura seemed vacant as well. Swallowing tightly, I lowered myself to my knees, rubbing my clammy hands against my clothes as I waited for him to arrive.

Long moments passed and it seemed as if the Alpha King was nowhere around because I waited for hours on my knees but he didn't show up. My knees were aching badly but I persisteted, hoping he would show up soon. Eventually, I grew tired of waiting for him on my knees and just sat down on the floor. Despite all attempts to stay awake, exhaustion finally took a hold of me and I dozed off while sitting, my head titling to the side.

I didn't know for how long I slept but when I finally jerked awake, it was already late in the night. The moonlight was streaming through the windows that were already opened but no other sources of light were turned on, keeping the room in the state of oppressive darkness. I looked around once more, searching and finding the Alpha King laying sprawled on the chair, his eyes closed as if he were deep in sleep. My heart skipped a beat finding him there but it was soon replaced with deep seated feelings of resentment.

I watched him for a while, noticing as the Moon light illuminated a part of his face, making him look ethereal. Standing to my feet, I brushed my hand against the part where I kept the blade, realizing to my relief that it was still there. I took in a deep breath and began to advance towards him, my steps soundless, my heart pounding in my chest.

The Alpha King didn't move and with every step that I took, my heart threatened to burst out of my chest but I tightened my resolve. Eventually, I was close enough, and with a bated breath, I gazed upon his serene face, pursing my lips. Very quietly, I brought out the blade from under my clothing, holding it tightly in my hands even as I trembled all over, my resolve wavering as seconds ticked by.

I brought the blade to his chest, checking if he had woken up. Seeing his eyes were still closed, I brought the blade high in the air, and with a whoosh, brought it down to his chest, hoping to pierce his heart with it. My hands stopped just as I reached his clothes, unable to go further, as if an unknown force had taken hold of me.

"Why did you stop? Go ahead with it." A voice broke the eerie silence
