Chapter 80 new plan
Chapter 80: Violet’s POV
Scarlett’s words from that night still rang in my headlike an alarm, waking up every fiber of courage I had left.
'I’ll be queen. But I’ll do it on my own terms.' She had told the elders and none of them could stop her.
She became the strong, defiant and brave princess I knew her to be. And I knew that we could find Axel if we worked together.
So that morning, I went down to the kitchen where I knew she had been having secret meetings with a certain boy and Asher's wise old beta.
—I didn’t exactly trust the people she worked with but I trusted her.
And if she assured me that there would be a solution working with them, then so be it. The goal was to find Axel.
How we did it didn't matter.
"Violet?" Nathan's voice cut through my thoughts just as my fingers brushed against the doorknob.
I turned to meet him, stepping out from the balcony with worried eyes.
My heart skipped a beat at his expression. "Did Greg find anything?" I asked in a low voice... my hopes were already too crushed to be stirred by their constant failed search parties.
Even if Greg had decided to join this particular one himself, I couldn't even begin to imagine that something good could arise.
Because if it didn't, it was going to hurt too much.
"No," he whispered. "But they are still... searching. That's why we need to stay put." He added in a careful tone like he was dealing with a rebellious teenager.
And then the worry in his eyes made sense. I scoffed as I shook my head. "I am not going to hurt myself if that's what you are afraid of," I pointed out.
The worry in his eyes clouded as he blinked. "Where are you going then?"
"To see Scarlett," I answered, crossing my arms. "And call aunt Emily. She needs to be here at the forefront in search of her nephew..."
"My Luna..." Nathan breathed in the same tone he used every time I brought up the idea of calling Aunt Emily.
"She is almost like their mother right now... She needs to know and Scarlett needs all the emotional support she can get... in fact we all do." I countered, before he could even speak.
She was one person I could blindly trust. During the last attack Willow had done on the kingdom, she fought like a true lycan. She was fierce and she got results...
"My Luna, I understand how you feel," Nathan stated in a firm tone. "But you need to also understand that the situation is very critical right now. We are trying to find Axel, manage an uproar and avoid war at all costs...telling aunt Emily would shift the entire balance..."
My eyes instantly narrowed as his reasoning felt like whiplashes against my ears. "So... you worry more about an uproar and a war... than finding your king?"
"I worry about keeping peace between the realms so that when the King is found, there is an actual Kingdom for him to keep ruling," he shot back, his eyes growing even more cloudy.
But I refused to take that as a sign of pain. I shook my head and turned to the door.
"I don't care about all that... All I know is that if anybody can find Axel, it's Aunt Emily..." I said before walking out of the room.
My mind burned with pain and irritation. It was almost like they didn't understand how I felt.
Each day I woke up without him by my side felt like my soul was drawn out of me bits by bits. I was dying without Axel.
And I knew that the only ones who could share my pain at the level I felt it, were Scarlett and Aunt Emily.
Because even with all the strength and boldness Scarlett was showing, I saw her pain right through her. I saw the way her jawline tensed. I saw the slight tremor in her fingers...
It was clear that she was holding herself together by sheer force of will— Just like me, she was also breaking apart by each hour it took for Axel to be found.
When I finally got to the kitchen, I went straight to the small store room I saw them entering the day before and knocked.
Seconds later, the door cracked open and it was the human boy's familiar eyes I saw first.
"My lady?" he said with eyes that were blended in shock and worry.
"Is... Scarlett in here?" I asked, my voice suddenly drying up.
He turned his head behind him as if to confirm and then he slowly stepped out of the way. Taking that as my invitation, I stepped in.
I was instantly stunned at what the inside of that small room looked like. They had completely transformed it into some sort of war room.
There were maps and scribblings on the war connected with ropes and pictures of Asher... and some sort of cave?
"Violet," Scarlett's warm voice cut through my thoughts and I instantly swiped my head in her direction.
She was standing in front of a large table and flanked on either side by Asher's beta Albert and an older woman I had also seen around the manor.
"I'm so sorry about what happened..." Scarlett began in a cracked voice and my eyes blinked back to her. "I wish I had listened to you earlier... I wish that I wasn't so stupid and naive... maybe now, my brother wouldn't have—"
"Don't," I called, stopping her sentence as my own heart squeezed in pain. "Axel is going to be found. And he will be alive."
She sniffed away her unshed tears and quickly nodded."Yes, you are right and I will do everything in my power to find him. I promise you that, Violet... even if it is the last thing I do..."
I got closer to where she stood and took her hands in mine. "I want to help... and I want Aunt Emily here too."
Again, she nodded but turned her eyes to Beta Albert before signalling to the human boy to bring her the only phone in the room.
"My queen, are you sure about this?" Beta Albert asked as the boy handed her the phone.
"I don't know, Albert... All I know is, my brother has to be found. And the two kingdoms need to stand." Her eyes then met mine. "My Aunt has fought alongside my Dad. She is experienced."
"She is right," the older woman in the room finally said. "I have heard stories about her prowess... It is said that the scar on Willow's face was from her..."
The rest of the room took the information in silent agreement as Scarlett dialed the number and put it on speaker for everyone to hear.
It rang a couple of times before her sharp voice came up the phone. "I hope you are fucking calling to tell me that you are all on your way back home?" she hissed.
Scarlett's eyes watered and her lips parted, but words failed. I knew I had to take over, so in a small broken voice, I went on and updated Aunt Emily on what was happening.
Silence filled the room and her end of the phone for what felt like hours. The room stilled and then cracked as her voice unleashed like a thunderstorm.
"Holy fucking goddess! Why in the fucking realm of hell are you both just telling me this now?"
"Aunt Emily... I am going to find him. I promise..." Scarlett whimpered. "I made a mistake and now it has cost me my brother... I am so sorry..."
"Don't fucking give me tears right now girl! If you are going to make do of that promise you need a fucking plan, not tears!" she yelled on the phone. "I hope you have one ready!?"
Scarlett quickly wiped off her tears and stretched her hand towards the human boy, who in turn gave her a map. "Yes... yes we— we have been tracking Asher ever since the incident... he hasn't been staying home..."
As Scarlett explained, it also clicked in my head that after that first day this nightmare began, I barely set my eyes on Asher.
I had stupidly thought he was off somewhere pretending to lead a search party. Yet, he was off on secret meetings.
"Listen, I am taking the first ride down there and I am going to destroy that fucking cave myself!" Aunt Emily hissed.
"Aunty, we don't know if he is there... we can't attack it without proof..." Scarlett cried. "What if he isn't there and our move makes them extra careful and we lose the window?"
"Oh we have already lost the fucking damn house child! I don't care whose window we are losing next but your brother must be found!" Aunt Emily countered in irritation.
The tension in the room intensified further as we all held our breaths, watching the phone like we could picture Aunt Emily right there...
