Chapter 48 Intimidated
Chapter 48: Scarlett
It was morning, but I could still feel his warmth around me.
I could still feel his kisses that had slowly gone from rough to gentle... His rough touch slowly reduced to a more passionate one...
Butterflies filled my insides, spreading their wings and awakening all my nerves just as rays of the sun filtered through the room.
My heart was drumming with excitement and desire all at once. I didn't know exactly what had gotten into Asher— for him to come to me like that but one thing was becoming clear.
—Fiona was right. He couldn't resist me.
A smile danced on my lips at the thoughts, feeling me with even more excitement as my eyes fell on his sleeping form.
His strong back was facing me and my fingers ached to feel the contours around his muscles. I wanted to feel the way each muscle was molded into the next...
Goddess, he was hot.
Unable to stop myself, my fingers started stretching towards my goal but just before I could reach him, he stirred making me freeze.
"Hmm, fuck..." He grumbled, slowly stirring out of sleep.
He dragged himself to a sitting position, eyeing the room like he couldn't remember how he got here.
When his eyes turned to me, I couldn't hide my smile as I waved gently.
"Hey..." I whispered.
A flash of light moved through his light and he instantly frowned. Almost as if he had finally understood what happened.
"Did you— sleep well?" I asked in a small voice.
But he growled something unintelligent and started searching for his clothes on the bed.
Like a teenager doing something wrong, he could barely look in my eyes as he hurriedly slipped on his pants and grabbed his shirt on the floor.
"This was a mistake," he growled under his breath.
The words bounced on my heart but I refused to let it scar me. He was just being irrational and I was done waiting for him to make the move.
As the thoughts moved in my head, a sudden courage shot through me and before I could stop myself, I jumped off the bed and grabbed his arm.
"Asher, I love you," I whispered, my heart ramming in my chest.
That same flash of light moved through his eyes before it swiftly got replaced with his usual anger.
"I have better things to deal with, Scarlett!" He growled and snatched his hand out of my hold.
But I wasn't about to give up now. As he began to move once again, I suddenly wrapped my hands around his waist, hugging him tight.
"I really do and— I will keep fighting for you— for us." My voice broke as emotions overwhelmed me but I didn't let that weaken me. I held on tight, resting my body on his back.
"You are my mate, Asher... We might be different but we are one..."
Asher froze and for a brief second, I thought my broken words had somehow pierced through to his iron head but I was wrong.
"Let go of me, woman!" He suddenly roared, pushing me brutally off him with a force that sent me crashing into the carpets. Hard.
The impact sent my elbow crashing against the bedframe, creating a loud sound, that made him turn to me with a different spark in his eyes.
"Shit!" He cursed as his actions stared at him in the face.
Time seemed to stop as I sat there cradling my sore arm while he struggled with his emotions. I could see the rage, irritation and— concern?
When time resumed, he did the unexpected.
He hurried to where I was and scooped me onto the bed, taking my sore elbow in his hands.
"See what you have made me do now?" He hissed, inspecting the elbow with such care, the butterflies in my stomach returned.
"Are you alright? Does it— should I get Fiona?"
"No, just keep holding me like this..." I whispered with a smile dancing on my face.
But as soon as the words left my mouth, his eyes shot at me and his anger overpowered the concern that once sat there. Before I could say anything more, he abruptly got to his feet.
"Learn to be less clumsy!" He growled before storming out of the room.
As the door closed behind him, I couldn't stop smiling at myself. I felt bubbles of excitement rise within me, awakening little spurs of sweetness all over me.
I was pretty jazzed and I couldn't even help it.
At this point, I was a hundred percent certain that Asher cared about me. He was only fighting himself.
The rollercoaster of emotions going through him was impossible to deny now.
Fiona and Bee were right. His wolf wanted me. In fact, it couldn't resist me. The only thing holding him back was himself.
Now I was going to make it difficult for him to resist the pull. And with his wolf's help, I was surely going to win him over.
"Yes!" I exclaimed, laughing to myself as I quickly hurried to my feet and rushed to the bathroom.
The fresh scent of my lavender soap filled my nostrils, adding to my determination to win over my mate.
Even the sore on my elbow became a forgotten sting as I hummed to myself under the shower.
When I was done, I made sure to pick a free dress with such a long slit, his eyes wouldn't be able to be off me.
I let my hair fall to my shoulders and applied the deepest shade of red lipstick in my drawer.
"Uhhh, somebody is on fire!" Bee's voice suddenly filled the room and I turned to find him watching from the balcony door.
I smiled and shook my head at his reflection in the mirror.
"As anyone ever told you that you are creepy? How do you even manage to keep showing up at the right time?" I laughed.
But he waved his hand, mirroring my smile.
"That's my little trick but please do tell me... How did you go from Angel is trying to steal your man—" he paused, taking his time to take in my appearance before he finished; "To this?"
Heat rushed to my cheeks at his question and I flipped my hair, trying to hide it. "Well, maybe I have realized that Angel cannot steal something that is buried deep in my heart."
"Oh, so now you have the king in your heart. Where does that leave me?" Bee joked.
"Get out of here!" I laughed, doing a final inspection of my dress before I turned to face him. "What do you think?"
"I think the king will not be able to keep his hands off you today... It's going to be a very passionate morning." He laughed, making a dramatic bow as he showed me to the door.
"You are becoming too naughty," I said, echoing his laughter as I finally held the door. "Wish me luck!"
"All the luck in the four realms are over you, my lady! Have fun and show that Angel girl who is the Luna around here..."
Feeling pumped and elevated by his words, I nodded and made my way down to the breakfast table.
I was banking on the sheer chance that he would be having his breakfast on the table with me today and not in the guest room with Angel— because if he were, then I would have to go to his study and wait for him.
Whatever awaited me, I was determined to make it work in my favour.
Holding my head high, I strutted through the corridors, straight to the breakfast table.
As I got closer, I felt my wolf purr and our mate bond sizzle— a sign that he was there.
Luck was really on my side today.
Taking a deep breath, I walked into the room, my eyes fixed on him. "Hey!" I exclaimed as I confidently walked.
Asher froze. His eyes moved over my dress and face, before dropping to my exposed thigh.
Taking advantage of the shock he had over my outfit, I walked up to him and placed a kiss on his right temple and slipped to the chair across from him.
"This looks delicious... What are we having today?" I chirped happily as I moved my eyes subtly around the room.
The table was already decorated with food and the maids were standing nearby for our needs— Angel was also there.
I felt her eyes on me, but my attention remained focused on Asher, ignoring her every attempt at being noticed.
His focus was also narrowed on me, his emotions resuming their battle as his eyes sparkled and dimmed every few seconds.
"Maid!" He suddenly growled, causing everyone to jump in their skin— except me.
The chief maid hurried to his side and bowed. "Is there anything you need my—"
"Get my food packed to my study!" He growled and started rising to his feet.
"Oh, are you running from me now?" I cut in, confidently daring him as I flipped my hair behind me provocatively.
The battle of emotions intensified in his eyes as he gritted his teeth and painfully peeled his eyes off me.
"Just do as I have said—" he growled to the maid, but I wasn't done.
"Do I scare you, Asher? Or does your mate's presence intimidate you?"
