Chapter 29 Last time
Chapter 29: Asher's POV.
Like a twig at the mercy of the wind, Scarlet trembled uncontrollably before me which made me even more angrier.
"Answer the damn question!" I got to my feet and she took a step back. "Where are you coming from?" I snarled at her.
I gave her simple instructions in the morning, to wait for me in my room but of course she had other plans. She had the guts to disobey me.
Scarlett avoided my eyes. "I—I— I'm sorry, I shouldn't have left the room." She stuttered, like that was the answer I needed.
"For the last time, where were you?" I infused some bloodlust in my tone to let her know she was in thin ice.
Tears welled up in her eyes. "I—the kitchen, I w—went to the kitchen because I was hun—hungry and I—"
"You make me sick, you liar!" I jumped at her but stopped my hands at her neck.
A gasp escaped her lips as she stared at me.
"I came from the kitchen, your scent wasn't there. The maids said you didn't come there, how dare you lie—"
A very familiar masculine scent reached my nose and I stopped talking. I took two quick sniffs and my eyes lit up as I recognized them.
It was Luciano's scent! Again!
And she was covered in it.
There was also a small whiff of alcohol coming from her. It was clear that I had been fooled. The little freedom I gave them had turned into something else!
But I calmed myself. Refusing to believe the obvious as malicious thoughts began to cross my mind.
I would execute this traitor— whoever had dared touch my mate.
I would have him hung before the people and then before he took his dying breath, I would slowly cut off his head so that he felt the pain.
I would burn his body and feed his remains to the dogs in the castle. This would serve as a reminder to the people of what could happen if they tried to get ahead of themselves.
But first, I had to find out who the fool was…
My eyes slowly locked on Scarlett and she knew it was coming. I grabbed her roughly by the neck and pulled her towards me.
"What’s his name?" I growled.
She blinked in shock, trying to cover up her secret affairs. "I—no! I don't understand what you are saying! I can't breathe!"
I shook her violently and brought her close so that my breath was in her face.
"I will only ask you once." My eyes glowed with fire. "Who is this man you were with?" I slowly tightened my hold on her neck.
She struggled to break away from me, but I was dead serious about crushing her windpipe. Right now, I didn't care about the kingdom and everything…
All that mattered was the name of the fool who had dared touch my fucking mate!
"It's Luciano—" Scarlett finally croaked and a ringing filled my ears.
I released her instantly and closed my eyes.
I could hear Scarlett coughing several times as she fell to the ground, and tried to catch her breath.
But my ears were still ringing from rage. Luciano was going to die!
I held my claws out and glared at her. "You stay here. I will deal with that traitor right now! I will be back!"
I stormed out of the room, making sure to lock the door before heading straight for Luciano's room.
No wonder he didn't clock in at work today, he was in the embrace of my woman! That bastard!
I felt jealousy burn deep within me. How dare he?!
I would put Luciano in a world of pain before I ended his pathetic life.
I had been so stupid! It was right before my eyes. He was always with her when I wasn't around. He personally delivered my message to her without question and he always found a way to delay her punishment.
I was blind but never again, I knew the truth now.
I came up to Luciano's room and the guards at his door sensed my temperament.
"Where is he?" I asked once.
"He's inside, your grace."
I lifted a foot in the air and I watched the guards slowly move away from the door. I kicked the door open with so much force that the door frame and wall around it came apart.
Luciano was shocked to see me in that state and backed away.
"LUCIANO!" I roared as I sighted him.
All the blood drained from his face and his legs trembled. "Your grace, is something wrong?" He asked.
"You are damn right!" I snarled and went after him.
Knowing that I was here for his life, Luciano attempted fleeing. He faked heading to the bathroom but suddenly accelerated the other way towards the damaged doorway but I wasn't playing here.
I grabbed the bed frame— and tossed it at him.
It crashed on him and he fell to the ground, giving me enough time to catch up to him.
I pulled him up with one hand and grabbed his collar. "How dare you?!" I snarled at him.
He tried running away again but I caught his leg and roughly pulled him back into the room.
“Your Grace please… show mercy… what have I done?” He foolishly cried.
I slapped him so hard that two teeth flew out. I kicked him towards the wall and the whole section fell down, from the doorway to the end of the room.
"How dare you touch Scarlett?!" I never gave him the time to reply as I continued beating the living daylight out of him. I punched his face several times until it was all but a bloody mess.
"How dare you? Who gave you the right to touch her?" I slapped him hard. "When did you get so bold? You thought you could have a piece of Scarlett and I wouldn't know?"
Luciano started coughing up blood, but I wasn't satisfied. This was just the beginning of the world of pain I had prepared for him. I picked up a large piece of the broken wall and held it to his face.
"Wait!" Luciano squealed. “I was only trying to help you!" He screamed.
An irritated scoff escaped my lips and I glared at him. “You were trying to help me?”
His eyes brightened and he nodded like a dying alligator. But before he could breathe another lie, I increased the pressure on his neck.
"By having fun with Scarlett behind my back? How the fuck was that help?" I held his face up by the collar.
"I saw her taking p—pills in her room. I sensed something was wrong and I intervened." He coughed several times. "I found out she was on the pill, she was trying to prevent herself from getting pregnant, Asher— I swear!"
My heart shrunk in my chest. "You lie!" My voice suddenly lost all my ferocity after hearing that. I felt another rage building up within me.
"It's the truth, I saw it with my own eyes! She knew the game was up when I found out about it and wanted to still take it but I tried to stop her and that was when we got into a struggle!"
It sounded like a big fat lie. I wanted to keep beating him. I wanted to pull out his tongue but my body was behaving wrongly. It was acting on its own accord.
I didn't want to believe him, but I still listened to him.
"If you don't believe me, go to her room and—" he coughed heavily. "Go to the—her room, the drawer, you will see the drugs there. Bright red pills and all, the description should be there." Luciano's eyes rolled as if he wanted to pass out.
"Not yet!" I raised him up and slapped his face. His eyes flew open and he focused on me. "You are coming with me," I snarled.
I felt anger boil deep in my core.
I dragged Luciano along and the guards followed until we got to Scarlett's room. The guards opened the door and I stepped in.
The drawer stood in front of me and I glared at Luciano.
"I'm going to make you wish your mother didn't birth you if you are lying," I threatened.
Luciano said nothing and wiped his face with a napkin.
I walked up to the drawer and pulled at everything. Just like Luciano said, there were pills inside it. I brought one up to my face and read the description.
"Contraceptives: Oral use only. Progestin pill."
A thunderstorm went off in my head.
“What?”
“T—that’s what I have been trying to—“
“Shut up!” I growled as my hands crushed the packet.
I glared at the wall. The thunderstorm in my head expanded as I realised how differently stupid this made me.
Scarlett has been playing with me all along. I was even a bigger fool!
Everything suddenly exploded in my head and I glared at Luciano.
Luciano was telling the truth. Scarlett was on birth control pills.
