Chapter 27 — The Shoot-Out (Steve)
“God Damn It! Why can’t anybody do what they’re told?”
Steve Stevens was more than a little bit unhappy. There should be a squad of lawmen on the east side of the warehouse but there were only three of them in that position; perhaps the main police force was stationed on the south side; that wouldn’t do him any good.
Both fucking Syrians were supposed to be in the truck, but as far as he could see there was only the driver. He would have to dispose of that filthy raghead warehouse worker after he was done with the truck. It would be risky, it would be suspicious, but he would try to make it look like the driver was just tying up loose ends. And it would give him a chance to see, close up, just how much damage a Rusky Popper could do with a head shot.
The sky wasn’t cooperating either. The setting sun should be in their eyes now, but clouds had blown in providing nice diffuse lighting. Well, if things were easy then anyone could do this job. This was why he was paid the big bucks.
Steve watched the truck as it approached him. The FBI should have already started shooting but evidently, they had their thumbs up their asses. When he paid bribes, he expected results. If the shoot-out didn’t start now his bullets would strike the truck from a suspicious angle. He had to get the pot boiling.
Pulling out the Smith and Wesson with the Rusky Poppers, Steve shot towards the police position three times. He wasn’t trying to hit anyone, but it didn’t matter to him if he did.
Then he switched to the Glock and shot at the truck eight times. The first two shots went into the engine compartment to disable the truck. The next two shots went into the truck cab to disable the driver. The final four shots went into the cargo area so the barrels would start leaking; at a time like this, you had to remember your priorities. He must have struck the driver because the truck slowed down and began to drift towards him.
There was now a feeble response from the police. Why weren’t they turning the truck into Swiss Cheese? He needed more fire from them to cover his shooting. Well, it was what it was, and this had to be good enough.
Steve noticed there was no liquid spilling out of the truck. He expected his 40mm to punch at least a few holes in the barrels. No matter. He grabbed his M4 and aimed it at the truck. He would finish off the driver first and then riddle the cargo area. This ammo was powerful enough that it could go through three or four of the barrels and still come out the other side of the truck.
