Chapter 82 I Need To Keep An Eye On Her
Cody
I made sure to get up an hour earlier than Jasmine this morning. I refuse to let her go another full day without taking care of herself. She will end up sick, and I don’t want that. I made her enough food for the entire day, along with some snacks. I’ve placed it all in a lunch bag for her. I set it aside to make breakfast for the two of us. Everyone else can make their own. My focus is on my girl and no one else.
I’d prefer to prepare a big breakfast to help her start the day, but she won’t eat that at this hour. Just some toast and poached eggs will suffice. I want her to sleep as long as possible because she looked incredibly exhausted last night when she got home, more tired than I’ve seen her in a long time. It worries me to see her so drained, but unfortunately, that’s part of being an adult. I need to ensure she doesn’t push herself too hard or burn out. She doesn’t know how to slow down, so I’ll be watching over her closely.
I begin brewing a fresh pot of strong coffee as breakfast finishes cooking. Once it's ready, I carry the coffee, the food, and some orange juice on a tray. I head towards our bedroom. Soon, her alarm clock starts ringing through the apartment. Jasmine usually wakes instantly, but this morning she’s still asleep. I quicken my pace to turn it off before it wakes everyone. When I enter the room, Jasmine is still deeply asleep.
I place the tray down and turn it off swiftly. I need to wake her up, even though I’ll feel terrible about it. I could let her sleep, but she would get upset if she missed any classes. Sighing, I sit on the bed's edge and gently kiss her forehead. She groans and turns away, facing the other side.
“Jasmine, you need to wake up, angel. Your alarm has already gone off.”
Jasmine groans again. Only this time, she wakes and slowly sits up. “I can’t deal with this today.”
“Don’t go to classes. Rest longer before your shift this afternoon.”
She shakes her head and runs her fingers through her messy hair. “I can’t. Classes are important, so I’ll push through and rely on caffeine. I'll be okay once I get started,” she says, sighing.
I nod, knowing it would be pointless to try to change her mind. She has made up her mind. I reach for the tray and place it between us.
Jasmine looks at it, making a face. “I don’t think I can eat.”
“Yes, you can. Please try. You need it.”
She looks at it but grabs the coffee first. I should have expected that. I sit next to her on the bed and start eating, deliberately groaning with each bite to urge her to do the same.
Jasmine laughs. “Fine, I’ll eat, you dork.”
I smile brightly as she finally begins to eat hers. She rolls her eyes at me as she does.
“Good girl,” I tease.
“Hush and eat your breakfast,” she says with a snicker, playfully slapping my arm.
It is nice to see her smile and hear her laugh. Silence falls between us as we eat. We don’t have long before we need to get ready for the day. I will drop her off on campus first, then go to work and pick her up when she finishes. I don’t want her driving tired again.
We arrive on campus. Jasmine’s classes don’t start for a while, but she plans to study before they do, so she doesn’t have as much to do tonight after her shift.
I reach out, gently place my hand on her cheek, and caress it. “I'll see you at seven, beautiful. Call me when you're on your break. Please remember to eat and stay hydrated. I don’t want you to faint."
Closing her eyes, she moves into my touch. “I promise I will eat.”
I gently press my lips to hers. “Thank you.”
I part from the kiss after only a moment.
Jasmine opens her eyes to meet mine, smiling. “Thank you for taking care of me. I love you.”
“All part of my boyfriend duties. I love you too.”
“You’re the best boyfriend. You should head now, handsome. I don’t want you to be late for work.”
“Only the best for you, sweetness.”
“Have a good day.” She smiles and kisses me once more before climbing out of the car.
I watch her walk away, scanning for a place to sit, and she chooses a spot under a large tree out of everyone’s way. Hesitantly, I drive off, hoping today will be better for her than yesterday. I’ll try not to worry too much, though I know that's easier said than done.
I'm not in the mood for work today, but I don’t have many options. If Toby and Silver stay out of my way, everything will be fine, even though I'd rather escape with Jasmine and do something more exciting — which we probably won't manage anytime soon. I don’t even know when we'll have a day off together. She's got the day off, but I'm working. On my days off, she's working too. We'll find a way to plan something.
I arrive outside the office and wait in my car for a few moments to get ready before going in. Since I finish at six-thirty, I can head straight to pick up Jasmine afterwards. I want it to be a quick day for both of us so she can go to bed at a reasonable time tonight and not wake up too early tomorrow. That way, she can get some needed rest.
As I walk inside, I receive a message from Jasmine with a photo attached. Curious, I look at it and laugh when I see that it's a picture of her eating the fruit and yoghurt I gave her for later.
I told you I would eat it, ha-ha xx
Good! Keep it up xx
I will. See you later. I love you xx
I love you too xx
Smiling, I slip it into my pocket. Time to focus on work.
