Chapter 123 Chapter 123

Chapter 123 Chapter 123
That night didn’t end with some big moment.
  No dramatic music.
  No sudden realization.
  Just… quiet.
The kind of quiet Cass used to hate.
  Now it felt earned.
  Morning came softer than usual.
Not because anything outside had changed.
But because for once, Cass didn’t wake up with that tight feeling in her chest.
  No replaying memories.
No questions chasing each other in her head.
  Just… stillness.
She moved through the house slowly.
Her mom was already in the kitchen.
  Of course she was.
  Some things didn’t change overnight.
  But something had changed.
You could feel it in the space between them.
  Not awkward.
  Not tense.
  Just… new.
  Her mom glanced up.
  “Morning,” she said carefully.
  Cass nodded.
  “Morning.”
  No weight behind it.
  No hidden meaning.
  Just a word.
They stood there for a second.
Then her mom slid a plate toward her.
  Cass took it.
  Sat.
  A normal moment.
But it didn’t feel fake anymore.
It felt like something rebuilding itself.
  Piece by piece.
“I won’t push,” her mom said after a while.
  Cass looked up.
  Her mom met her eyes.
“But if you ever want to talk about… anything,” she added, “I’m here.”
  Cass held her gaze.
  Then nodded once.
  “I know.”
And she meant it this time.
  Outside, the world kept moving.
School didn’t stop just because everything in Cass’s life had shifted.
  Which felt strange.
  But also… right.
When she walked through the halls, people still looked.
  Still whispered.
But it didn’t land the same way anymore.
  Because now—
they didn’t know anything she hadn’t already faced herself.
Lena practically launched herself at her near the lockers.
“Okay,” she said, eyes scanning Cass like she was checking for damage. “Status report. Emotional breakdown? Dramatic crying? Did anyone throw anything?”
  Cass smiled faintly.
  “No.”
  Lena blinked.
  “…No?”
  “I’m okay,” Cass said.
And Lena froze for a second.
  Then narrowed her eyes.
  “That’s suspicious.”
  Cass laughed.
  A real one.
  Light.
  Easy.
  And Lena immediately relaxed.
“Oh thank God,” she muttered. “You’re back.”
Jace found her not long after.
Leaning against her locker like he’d been there longer than necessary.
Like he didn’t trust the world not to shift again if he looked away.
  Cass walked up to him.
  Stopped.
  “You’re staring,” she said.
  Jace didn’t look embarrassed.
“Just making sure you’re real,” he said.
  Cass tilted her head slightly.
  “And?”
  He nodded once.
  “You are.”
  There was something unspoken there.
  Not heavy.
  Not complicated.
  Just… steady.
  “Walk with me?” he asked.
  Cass didn’t hesitate.
  “Yeah.”
  They didn’t go far.
  Just outside.
  Away from the noise.
The same place everything had started feeling different before.
Jace leaned back against the wall.
Cass stood in front of him.
  Quiet for a second.
  Then—
“You could’ve walked away,” she said.
  Jace frowned slightly.
  “From what?”
“Everything,” she said. “Me. The mess. All of it.”
  Jace shook his head.
  “That was never an option.”
  Cass studied him.
  “Why?”
He looked at her like the answer was obvious.
  “Because it’s you.”
  That should’ve felt overwhelming.
  Or intense.
  But it didn’t.
  It felt… simple.
  Right.
  Cass stepped closer.
  Not rushing.
  Not overthinking.
  Just following what felt clear.
“You don’t have to stay because of what happened,” she said quietly.
  Jace met her eyes.
  “I’m not.”
  A pause.
“I’m staying because of what’s still here.”
  That did it.
That broke the last piece of doubt she didn’t even realize she was holding onto.
  Cass reached for him first.
  Not dramatic.
  Not hesitant.
  Just… certain.
  Her hand slipped into his.
  Like it belonged there.
  Like it always had.
Jace didn’t pull her closer right away.
  He just held on.
  Letting her set the pace.
  Letting this be her choice.
  Cass looked at him.
  Really looked.
  Not through fear.
  Not through confusion.
  Just… clearly.
  Then she leaned in.
  And kissed him.
  It wasn’t rushed.
  Wasn’t desperate.
  It was steady.
  Grounded.
Like everything they had gone through had led to something real instead of something broken.
When she pulled back, she didn’t step away.
  She stayed right there.
  Close.
Jace let out a quiet breath.
  “That felt different,” he said.
  Cass nodded slightly.
  “It is.”
  Because now—
there was no weight behind it.
  No past dragging it down.
  No questions left unanswered.
  Just them.
Later, as the day settled into something normal again, Cass found herself back by her window.
  Same place.
  Same view.
But she felt different sitting there.
  Lighter.
  Not empty.
  Just… free.
Her diary lay open beside her.
  The last entry still there.
  It wasn’t my fault.
  But it’s my life.
  She read it once more.
  Then smiled faintly.
And added one more line beneath it:
And I finally get to live it.
  Cass closed the diary.
  Set it aside.
  And leaned back.
Outside, the world moved like it always had.
  Unbothered.
  Unchanged.
  But inside her—
  everything had shifted into place.
  No more questions.
  No more guilt.
  No more running.
Just a girl who finally knew the truth.
  And chose herself anyway.
  The End.
