Chapter 1
I had carefully prepared for nine months for our wedding anniversary trip.
Henry Grant, despite my objections, insisted on bringing his female assistant-Lily.
His excuse was that he couldn’t neglect work.
On the third day of our trip, I asked him for a divorce.
“Gabriella, what kind of joke are you playing on me?”
“Are you sure you want a divorce?”
I nodded.
“Yes, divorce.”
“We don’t have to live like this. Let’s end it.”
“Reason?”
Henry frowned.
“Gabriella, you’d better explain.”
I leaned against the window of our hotel room, looking out at the azure waters of the Maldives.
We were supposed to spend a romantic fifth wedding anniversary here-this was a wonderful trip I had spent months planning.
But now, that blue ocean only made me feel suffocated.
“You’ll know the reason soon enough.”
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Henry turned around, and Lily appeared at the door.
“Mr. Grant, the 10 o’clock conference call is about to begin.”
Lily’s voice was deliberately lowered, carrying a sickeningly sweet gentleness.
When her gaze swept over me, the corner of her mouth curved into a fleeting smirk of triumph.
My expression remained calm.
“Henry, in just two days of traveling, you and she have already had over a dozen conference calls.”
“Whether day or night, you spend more time with her than with me.”
“Do you think this marriage still has any meaning to maintain?”
Henry frowned: “What’s wrong with that? Don’t you know how important this acquisition case is to me?”
“Acquisition case?”
I stepped forward, looking directly into Henry’s eyes.
“For our fifth wedding anniversary trip, you brought three suitcases.”
“Two of them were packed full of documents.”
“You didn’t pack a single piece of clothing for me, didn’t even bring your own swimwear, but you prepared three dresses for Lily.”
“Can you explain why?”
Henry fell silent.
Lily interrupted me at this moment, showing that disgusting standard smile: “Gabriella, it’s all my fault.”
“I didn’t arrange the meeting times properly, which affected your trip with Mr. Grant.”
She lowered her head, looking both pitiful and wronged.
“Mr. Grant has been under a lot of pressure lately, so he tends to forget things. Please don’t blame him.”
I watched Lily’s performance, noticing that as she spoke, her fingers naturally touched Henry’s wrist.
A seemingly accidental but deliberately intentional touch, and Henry didn’t dodge it.
“Miss Lily,” I said coldly, “I’m talking to my husband. It’s not your turn to speak.”
Lily immediately stepped back: “Sorry, Gabriella, I apologize.”
She looked at Henry with innocent and panicked eyes.
“Mr. Grant, I’ll go prepare the meeting materials now and won’t disturb you anymore.”
“Wait.”
Henry grabbed her arm.
He turned to me, his eyes filled with familiar stubbornness.
