CHAPTER 155: GAME.
CHAPTER 155: GAME.
~MIRA’S POV~
We finally managed to leave the house at past nine. I was all smiles as I got into my car. We were taking my car today. Grey tackled his seatbelt and I did the same with mine.
“Ready?”
“You are really not going to tell me where we are going?” he asked.
I laughed and put the car in drive. “Nope.”
My eyes swept over his polo and jeans. It wasn’t common to see the great CEO in regular clothes. I glanced down at my tracksuit and winked at him.
“But you’re dressed for the occasion. We will be there in no time.”
No response left Grey's lips and I laughed some more before turning on the radio. A slow song filtered into the car, a song my mother would have appreciated. I forced thoughts of my mother to the back of my mind. Today was all about Grey and our tenth month anniversary. We had been so busy with my troubles none of us noticed it had passed.
I switched channels and paused. The new channel was a segment about kids. I spared Grey a glance and slowed behind the car in front, waiting for the light to turn green. Watching Grey made me smile. His eyes were closed but I knew he was awake. Bored by the current channel, I changed it.
The anchor asked a question I turned to Grey. “Grey?” His long lashes fluttered.
“What happens if you find out I can’t have kids?” His prolonged stare made me nod towards the radio. “That’s what she asked. And I’m asking you. Would it bother you if I couldn’t have kids?”
“No.” His eyes were on mine, searching to see if it was a serious question. There was no shadow of doubt in those grey eyes when he replied, “It won’t. We can adopt or find a surrogate. People do it all the time.”
“Yeah?”
The traffic eased and my car sped down the road.
“Yeah, Mira.” Placing his hand between us, his finger traced the open skin of my stomach that peeked out when I leaned on the steering wheel. “Are you thinking of adoption? Scared of carrying my kids?”
Laughter bubbled up my throat. I would love to carry his babies and also adopt some.
“Not scared at all. Just wanted to hear your opinion on the subject.”
The radio presenter switched to another question I didn’t pay attention to. My skin sparked under Grey’s touch as his fingers trailed up to my side boobs. I sent him a look of warning and he shrugged but his hand lowered to his side.
“What about you?” I tilted my head slightly, then my gaze returned to the main road. We were almost there. “What will you do if you find out I’m broke?”
“What will I do?” A dry laugh escaped me. The question was almost insulting to me. “Are you really asking me that?”
“Yeah. Will you leave me?”
“Hell no,” I muttered. “I didn’t marry you for your money in the first place.”
“You married me for my sexiness?” he asked with a wink. “For this handsome face?” His hands swept over his body. “This great figure?”
“Shut up,” I screamed, laughing spilling from my lips. “You were not that bad on the day of the wedding.” He said nothing and I continued, “I’m not sure why I agreed to your proposal because that’s the craziest thing ever but I’m glad you asked me to be your wife.”
I drove into the games centre, hiding a smile as Grey’s eyes widened as he took in the place.
“Even if you’re broke,Grey, I’ll still love you. And as long as I’m not broke, we will be fine. And… we are here. Do you like the place?”
Scanning the environment, his head bobbed. I grinned as I opened the door. I was about to whoop his ass at paint balling. We got out together, I guided him to the reception area and bought two tickets, nodding to the direction given to them.
My excitement heightened in the dressing room. This game hub was a frequent spot for me and Lisa when we first moved to California. I strolled to Grey to help with his overalls. The overalls were to protect us from the paints. Each of us will be given a gun and asked to join a team. The first team to get the flag wins.
“I’ve never played this before,” Grey confessed.
I beamed. “I have.”
“Not fair.” He pouted. His expression fell and I pulled his lips to form a smile. “I’ve never actually been to a game hub before. I have all the money I need but I don’t have time or the friends to spend them with.”
“You have me now, we can come here more often if you like. Or we can visit other places. It’s up to you.”
“Alright. Let’s finish from here first, then we can explore the rest of the city.” Holding up his gun, Grey tried to adjust the trigger. “How does this even work?” I showed him and his frown only deepened. “You’re going to win.”
“I will. Then you’ll have to buy me ice-cream and cake.”
We were laughing as we walked out of the changing room. Grey narrowed his eyes and moved to join his team. I was team blue, he was team green.
I exchanged greetings with my team members and the leader of the group assigned us to our roles. Before the whistle to commence the game was blown, I turned to Grey and blew him a kiss.
A shrill sound rang through the air, a voice came from the overhead speakers. “Your game begins… Now.”
Everyone scrambled into strategic positions. I hid behind a small bush.bwe were in an open field with plants, wooden doors and other obstacles positioned at different spots to make the game more fun.
One of my teammates stood and someone from Grey’s team shot him. I covered my mouth to keep from gasping. That was too fast and easy. The guy fell to the sandy floor and his killer placed his gun on his chest.
One person down, five more to go. I eyed the stairs and waited some more seconds before pushing my gun between the scrubs protecting me from the view of my opponents. Without another thought, I fired and the member of the green team who killed my teammate collapsed to the floor. Now, we were even.
I caught a movement from the corner of my eyes. My husband. He looked funny in his helmet. I let him run up the stairs before switching positions. That winning flag was for team blue, not green. A shot rang in the air and a member of team green fell. The rubber bullets in the gun stung a lot, releasing a coat of red paint as if it was a real gun. You were to fake dead once shot, only standing at the end of the game.
Footsteps echoed behind me as I started for the stairs, I turned to see my teammate had shot the person. We gave each other a thumbs up and I hurried up the stairs. The place was dark. I flipped the light on my gun and continued up. A groan from inside the building rang out, then my teammate tumbled to the ground. I jumped over the body of the guy. Grey was up there. Would I shoot him?
Panting from the short run, I burst out at the top of the building. Grey was about to pick the white flag.
I cocked my gun. “Stop. Drop it.”
Grey pouted, his hand reached for the table holding the flag and I fired a warning shot into the air. My husband jumped.
“Give it to me, Grey. I promise not to shoot if you hand it over.”
“Baby, you’re cheating. I came up here first.”
Keeping a stern face was hard. My eyes never left the gun strapped to his back. He should be alert at all times. If he was, he would have shot me as soon as I came up. Too bad anyway.
“It’s not cheating, it’s part of the rules and I want to win.” my smile was contrite as I placed a finger on the trigger. Grey shook his head. “Sorry, Grey.I love you with all my heart.”
A shot was fired, then another. I grinned as my husband clutched his heart, pretending to die for real. Close to him, I got to my knees and kissed him.
“Sorry, baby.” Grey snorted and I giggled. “You’re supposed to play dead. The game is almost over.”
After another kiss to Grey, I stood to retrieve my prize, walking towards the table like the first lady.
