Chapter 8 - Seeking His Attention
"What do you see in me when you joke around like that, Vernon?" asked Serena as she played with her hair. “Or you mean how I deal with everything after a month? Well, it's been tough but thank God I can get through it.”
He smiled at her and with his charisma, he said, "You look healthy, happy, and beautiful. Glad you can get through it.”
Serena smiled meaningfully and she showed her charm deliberately. The man in front of her was the man who made her unable to look at other men. Even if her ex pursued her, it was only the man in front of her that made her stay.
"So, why did you accept the modeling project, Vernon? I thought you wouldn't want to. You're the CEO, busy with your business, and so on."
"Your team begged me. I've refused many times because it's not my type to become a model, but they say their models always fail to have chemistry with other male models."
Serena was a little annoyed at the fact that her team was pleading for reasons that made her look bad in front of him. But that annoyance disappeared quickly as she just stared at Vernon's intoxicatingly handsome face.
"I didn't know their model was you. I thought it was another woman," he said.
"Even if you know the name of my agent company?"
"Yeah. You're a celebrity, Serena, how could I not know the name of your agent's company?"
Her face reddened at Vernon's statement that spoke so sexily in her ear. She even pushed her hair behind her ears and sipped her coffee.
"So, what's the point of this meeting?"
"As you wish, I will not resign until the contract expires. I will work with you as your modeling partner."
In her heart, she was so happy that she was jumping up and down. In fact, her heart felt like it was being showered with magic, making her blossom quickly.
"Ok, deal. I will take care of your contract which will be taken care of by my team of course," Serena said while rolling her eyes. "Now, we can talk freely without discussing work."
Unfortunately, Vernon was looking at his watch which made Serena catch it and get annoyed if someone was already looking at their watch. She didn't like to see someone who looked busy when she was in his presence. She didn't like to be ignored.
"Sorry Serena, but I have a meeting with my client in the next hour," Vernon said.
"We've not been seeing each other for a month and you don't want to make time for me at all?"
"Aren't we doing that right now?"
"No, we aren't. I happen to be free today, so I want to come to your office. I'll wait for you to finish meeting with your client."
Vernon looked at her and considered her request. It would be big news if a celebrity came into his office, it might also be gossip for the media that the CEO brought a celebrity into his office.
"Well, but I don't want my employees to know that I brought a celebrity into my office," he said finally.
Then Serena propped up her chin with both hands as she mumbled. "Hmm, then what should I do, Mr. CEO?"
He scratched the bridge of his nose and sighed at Serena's behavior which showed her sensual style and speech. "I have a jacket and hat and sunglasses in my car. You can wear them."
"Have they been worn by your ex? If so, I don't want to wear them."
"No, no. It's purely me who often wears them when I want to relax."
"Ok. Deal, take me to your office, Vernon."
The journey to his office made Vernon feel nervous for the first time. By his side, he saw Serena already wearing his stuff and looking even sexier in his eyes. He didn't know how to explain it, but his heart was pounding the first time he saw Serena appear in the meeting room.
When they reached the car park, they got out and reflexively, Vernon took her by the hand, led her into his office, and still his employees noticed her but he was relieved that they had no idea who she was.
"Ugh, it's so hot!" Serena took off her jacket, hat, and glasses and when she shook her hair free, Vernon looked at her in amazement. "Did they recognize me?" she asked with a smile.
"No. Maybe after this, they will because I'm working with you."
"Isn't that a good idea?"
"And they'll make up a rumor that I'm dating a new woman."
Serena sighed and sat down at will on Vernon's chair. "There's nothing wrong with that, right? You're single, and so am I. Besides, do you really want them to know you're still with your ex-girlfriend?"
Vernon ignored her even though he was listening. He stared at his laptop in front of Serena even though she hadn't moved from his chair.
She stared at his face and occasionally Serena deliberately touched his hand until Vernon stopped moving.
"Oops, am I disturbing you?" Serena asked sensually.
"You broke my concentration."
"Really? What was that like?"
Vernon sighed and he picked up his jacket that Serena had put down and covered Serena's front body with his jacket.
"It's harming me," he said.
But Serena didn't care. She even dropped the jacket and cupped her head with her hands on the table.
"You know Vernon, it will be more dangerous if you hold it."
Suddenly the door knocked and opened. Vernon swiveled his chair so his secretary wouldn't see Serena's face.
"Sir, our client has arrived and is waiting in the meeting room." Even the secretary looked curious even though she couldn't see.
"I'll be right there."
After the door closed again, Vernon turned the chair around and stood before her.
"How nervous and scared are you, Vernon, to be caught bringing me here?" she asked.
"We'll talk later, Serena. Wait here and don't show up."
Serena held up her hand as she was about to leave. "What?" Vernon asked.
"I just missed your touch.”
Vernon then removed his hand from her slowly and looked at her meaningfully before walking out of his room.
His heart pounded and he breathed a sigh of relief when he was out of the room. Then he behaved normally and looked at all his employees.
"No one goes inside without my permission," he ordered.
Serena, meanwhile, smiled happily. She felt that Vernon had already fallen for her, it just took a little more effort for him to become dominant over her.
“I will get you with my way, Vernon.”
