Chapter 89
Chapter 89
Devin stopped clapping his hands and started walking forward, shaking his head while smiling. “Congratulations! You found my resort! I have some nice, fresh women that might entice you, Wyatt?” He said with a very amused look in his eyes. There was still a hint of darkness behind them though. Raven could see the darkness swirling around him. “No? Well, you are more than welcome to come get me, if you can!”
Devin steered right and before anyone could react, he started walking on the wolfsbane-laced grass. Everyone gasped out in shock as it seemed to not affect him. “You see, I too have friends. My friends are a… special kind of friend.”
“Witches make trades, not friendships,” Raven said out loud, shocking everyone that she could speak. Her voice was soft and delicate but full of power and authority. A few people took steps away from her and some instantly bowed.
Devin nodded his head and pointed his finger at her. “You are exactly right! They do make trades. I have been drinking a potion that keeps wolfsbane from hurting me. So, if any of you try to touch me, you will be drugged, so technically, I am untouchable!” Devin laughed.
“And where are your friends at?” Raven asked.
“Well, since I really don’t care at the moment, Grant had laced our drinks, so I repaid the favor to him. Mason is on the floor—you might want to check on him and Grant. Well, I am not sure if he is alive or not,” Devin said shrugging. Raven looked at Justin, Maverick, and a few other warriors who went inside to look at everything. Devin’s warriors were circled around us but kept on looking at him for help. They had to follow his orders, but they also recognized Raven as their queen. “Also, since I will find this entertaining, I had one other potion made for me. However, I wanted to share this one. The witch made a potion that will keep my warriors from bending to your will. Your aura will do nothing for them.” At this, the warriors stood straighter, and their growls became more threatening.
“And that’s fine, Devin, but you unfortunately don’t have all the information,” Raven said as she took a step onto the grass and started walking toward him. A collective gasp and the wide eyes of Devin told her that they had no idea she was immune to it. “Wolfsbane also does not bother me. I am your true queen, and I will be sitting on top when this is over. Listen to me now, you have to choose which side you are on. I am giving you a chance to come to our side and live. Those who don’t… die,” Raven said, loud enough that everyone heard. Everyone was looking around and waiting to see if anyone would move. Devin’s eyes grew dark and unleashed a threatening growl to his warriors in response. “So be it,” Raven said, and she unleashed the force within. It was so powerful that it went off in a huge wave, causing the enemy to be thrown off their feet. It gave us the advantage.
“ATTACK!” Wyatt said and took off to help his warriors. I had been feeling each death that was happening around the U.S. The numbers were staggering, but I tried to stay focused to watch Raven take down Devin.
She stalked him like a lion does a prey. Devin shifted into his wolf that was smaller than Raven but was thick with muscle. I felt Raven bring the electricity to the surface and my whole body was sending off little blue sparks as she walked to him. It caused him to pause for a second and look at them before he decided it was not anything to be concerned about.
Devin lunged at Raven, a straight on attack. Raven at the last minute swerved to miss him, but he anticipated it, landing a blow to Raven’s side. However, as soon as his fist made contact with her side, his whole body was vibrating from electrocution. Raven let it go on for a few more seconds before stopping it. Devin lay there in a pool of his own piss, breathing heavily while glaring at her. Raven didn’t even wait before punching him square in the face, breaking his nose and causing him to pass out.
Standing up, using every ounce of authority in her voice, Raven yelled, “STOP!” The battle before her was bloody. Everyone was covered, wolves were either dead or wounded. Every injury and death were a stab to Raven’s heart. “Stop, it is time to stop. Put them in cuffs, collect the women and children. Let’s go home!” Raven made her way to the woods and changed back into her human body.
Raven then grabbed Devin by the collar and dragged him off the grass and to the driveway. Wyatt had emerged from the house covered in blood. He came rushing to Raven. “Grant lost a lot of blood, but we got him stable. We need to get him to a hospital!”
“How many women and children are there?” Raven asked. If Grant died, it would be tragic but so was every other life we lost so far.
“Twenty-six. They are getting clothes and will be out in a few minutes. The female warriors are helping them now.”
“Good. Start taking the prisoners that lived to the ship,” Raven said and made her way to the women and children.
“Wait!” Wyatt said and came back over to Raven. “Is Nina okay?”
“Nina passed out from all the death and pain, but she is okay. I feel her and will keep her safe. We have lost many lives today.” Wyatt nodded and walked away. His face was full of concern and the tension in his shoulders was stiff.
Raven walked inside and made her way to the kitchen. Walking in the doors, there were so many women half naked, dirty, bloody, and bruised. It made her blood boil to see them like this. A little boy, around three, came up to Raven and pulled on her hand. Raven looked down and saw a little brown haired, blue-eyed child, covered in dirt with a black eye. He was clutching a kitchen towel. She kneeled down, so she was more eye level with him. “What is your name, little boy?”
“Matty,” he said shyly. He opened his mouth to say something but his whole body jerked in fright as a scream was heard from across the room.
“Matty! Oh my gosh! I am so sorry, ma’am. Please don’t hurt him!” A woman who looked like his twin ran up to him and pulled him close, like she wanted to shield him from Raven’s sight.
Raven smiled at the woman. “Fear not! For I am your queen. I am here to save you and provide a better life for you and for Matty.” Raven looked at all the women in the room. She let her aura out, gently as not to harm them, but just to let them recognize her. They all looked shocked and scared at the same time. “Come, let’s go home,” Raven said sweetly before helping them out of the house. Most of them winced, as they had not been outside in weeks.
It took a few hours to get everyone on the ship and the prisoners chained down. Raven walked up to the captain’s chair and saw Wyatt preparing to leave. The ship was silent the whole way other than the excited whispers from the kids. Raven wasn’t feeling any more death or pain, so the other battles must have been over as well. The transition from ship to plane went smoothly since none of the prisoners cared to fight against Raven. Devin was still out cold, and Grant was holding stable.
Once they were on the plane, it took off, and Wyatt and Raven were sitting there in silence before Reed sat down across from them. Raven could tell something was wrong.
“What is it?” she asked, looking between the two.
“It was just too easy…” Wyatt said, rubbing his chin. “It wasn’t much of a fight.”
“I noticed that, too. It was like everyone was drunk or already passed out, so all we had to do was put cuffs on them and walk out. There were few guards that fought and forest traps but nothing major.”
“I don’t feel like this is over. We have all the councilmen, but yet, it was like it was handed to us on a silver platter.”
“We need to find this witch,” Raven said.
“Witch?” Reed asked, looking puzzled.
“There was a witch that made potions so wolfsbane didn’t affect Devin and made my aura not affect the warriors. I couldn’t force them to kneel.”
“Shit,” Reed said as he leaned his head back. “This is bad.”
“Yup,” Wyatt said and really popped the ‘p’ at the end. They each sighed and leaned their heads back against the seat, deep in their own thoughts.
