Chapter 100
Chapter 100
I just couldn’t believe it. I just couldn’t. Why Brooke, why? Staring at them laying on the floor, tears ran down my cheeks. I couldn’t give Kelly up. She was carrying a baby and already had head trauma. I didn’t understand any of this. I laid Kelly down but still in my protective shield. Checking her head, I saw the bleeding had stopped but she was pale. I focused all my attention to the baby to see if I could feel him or her. I heard a small heartbeat and a hint of an emotion. Calmness? I couldn’t be sure, but I felt the baby. I knew instantly it was a boy as well, but I would keep that information to myself. Satisfied she was going to be okay, I stood up and started looking around. It was the same basic setup from the room I was tortured in, but I felt like we didn’t walk that far, so we couldn’t be terribly far from the pack house.
“Wyatt is coming. He said to just hold on a little longer,” Raven assured me.
“Why Grant?” I asked her, just completely confused. “Did you know?”
“Some things need to happen the way they are supposed to happen. Grant needed to reveal his true intentions on his own. If we were to intervene, the outcome would have been much worse.”
“That is an annoying thing to say right now…”
Raven actually chuckled at that. “Yes, I know, but it is the truth. The Mood Goddess can’t see everything, but she can see enough to help you out and hopefully get the right ending.”
“What am I supposed to do now?”
“You need to hide Kelly. Grant cannot get his hands on Kelly. That baby is part of our future,” Raven said. I looked around for a good hiding place.
Suddenly, I had a really sick thought. Damn, she was going to hate me when she wakes up. The room was filled with different objects but not much of anything else. I remembered watching a movie where people in wartime would hide under an already dead person as a “meat shield” of sorts. Sighing, I picked Kelly up and placed her against the wall and moved her in a fetal position to help protect the baby. Then, one by one, I picked up or dragged Brooke, Johnnie, Trevor, and Zach. I made it look like a pile of bodies, so hopefully she would be okay under all the muscle from the boys. Zach’s face was looking up, and it hurt my heart to see him like this. I would need to call his parents.
Deciding that I needed to move other things around to make it look less obvious where Kelly was, I piled up everything I could and placed it under a table in the corner adjacent to Kelly. If he goes for weapons, I could keep guard over Kelly. I could handle any weapons, of that I was sure, but I couldn’t have him between Kelly and me. However, if he did get something past me, hopefully it would hit the other bodies before it hit Kelly.
Looking down, my dress was torn, bloody, and completely ruined. I had blood all over my arms, chest, and face. The bandage covering the symbol was saturated in blood, so I took it off, hopefully keeping it from getting infected. It was still angry, but Raven had healed it enough that it was scabbed over.
Now what? I felt like I had waited hours for either Wyatt to show up or for Grant to come back. I didn’t even know where I was! I started pacing the floor with my hands on my hips. As each minute passed, I got more and more irritated. Who the fuck did he think he was, making me wait like this! I could feel my eyes glow the more I got mad.
I still couldn’t believe I didn’t put Grant behind this. I thought, surely, as my only blood relative, that he would stand beside me. Just comes to show blood wasn’t always as thick as water. He really did play the long game. I was sure there were many times he could have killed me as I grew up, or even when they were torturing me. Did he really need me to get the crown? And what the hell was up with Brooke! Why was she here! What did he promise her? Now Wyatt had lost a sister because of me, and I was trying to protect his other sister. I felt so betrayed right now.
The door handle started to turn, and it brought me out of my own head. Since I had been stewing on all these emotions, I was royally pissed right now. Grant walked through the door, smiling. I decided to stall a little before I finally put the pup down.
“Tell me why again?”
“What do you mean why? Your very existence has taken the crown from me. I am the older brother, and I was meant for that crown. Our dad would tell us we had to stay hidden. The world wasn’t ready for our bloodline yet. So, I did. I kept my bloodline a secret! It was not an easy task! I worked my way up to the council so I could take over. I found dirt on the other councilmen to blackmail them. I even set up the sex trafficking ring, so I could take it down and prove my ability to lead the people as their king since I didn’t have powers. The world would have been so happy to know about my blood that not having powers wasn’t going to matter! However, stupid fucking Devin couldn’t keep it together and kill you. He had ONE FUCKING JOB! No matter, no matter. I found another way to get what I wanted. If I kill the queen, I will get to take the throne. So, I waited and helped you out just enough to make you think I was on your side. Enough that I knew the plans and protection details. I wanted to walk you down the aisle, so I would have a front row seat to killing you right after you were crowned. Doing it right then and there, in front of everyone. That would have made sure there was no question on who the REAL king was, and they would been able to crown me right then and there. Again, you didn’t follow the plan. I heard pitiful Brooke talking in the hall about how miserable her life was. How her mate loves his friend, and she isn’t his priority. How she hated you and wanted you gone. So, I used that to my advantage and kept feeding her bullshit about how what she felt was true. I even sold it amazingly! Like a caring uncle! The best part of all of this, and the most unfortunate part... I was the one who killed your parents. I led the rogue attack on the pack, and your dad saw me kill your mother. I got the better of him and killed him, too. I would have killed you then if I could have found you.” Grant was spilling everything with a smile on his face.
Poor Brooke fell right into his trap. She let her insecurities get the best of her, and in her innocence, Grant took advantage of her emotionally. I felt my blood boil and my skin started having small sparks of electricity erupt from it as he told me about my parents. The pressure was building, and I decided to let it out. I sent a blast of energy so large that it made even me stumble back. I didn’t realize I was screaming, and my hands were open wide until all the energy was gone. I had enough of listening to his twisted words, his lies and deception.
Looking over, Grant was slouched against the wall unconscious. There was a body indention on the wall above him where he hit hard, with a trail of blood from where his head hit, leading down to where he rested on the floor. I didn’t fucking care. Stalking over to him, I grabbed his collar and dragged him to the middle of the room. Walking over to the table, I pulled out a chair that was under it and lifted Grant up, so he was sitting on it. I went back and got rope to tie him to the chair.
I could have left. I could have gotten Kelly out and walked out the door, but I needed this. It was because of this man that I didn’t have any family. He killed my mom and dad. This whole year I had been living in a web of his destruction. I could have been able to call my parents and tell them I was pregnant. They could have walked me down the aisle at my luna ceremony. All these moments I was going to miss because of this man.
I slapped him after a few minutes, trying to wake him up. He groaned and rolled his head, slowly opening his eyes. He slowly started to look around and realize what happened as his eyes landed on the hole in the wall with blood.
“You bitch!”
That earned him a punch in the mouth. I saw a few teeth fly out. “I’m sorry, I didn’t catch that!” I said sarcastically. “Actually, don’t answer, I don’t want to hear your voice!”
I walked over and grabbed a mallet. Resting it on my shoulder, I walked back over to stand in front of Grant. He eyed the mallet and understood what was going to happen.
“What kind of queen physically abuses the people? You are a pathetic excuse for a queen!” he spat out.
Without thinking, I pulled back the mallet and swung it with everything I had, connecting with his jaw, and successfully breaking it so he could no longer speak. I could tell that hurt from the way he stomped his feet. Next was his hands and toes. Then his shins and forearms. I was out of breath before I quit swinging. I didn’t realize I was crying until I couldn’t see his face anymore because of all the water.
“WAKE UP, MOTHERFUCKER!” I screamed and started shocking him. His body jerked and he pissed himself as he was being electrocuted. I heard someone shouting from the distance, but I kept tuning it out. “WAKE UP!”
“NINA! Ouch, fuck!” I heard and felt someone grab me but let go quickly as the electricity was very high on my skin right now. I had to clear my eyes to realize there was an army of people in the room with me. Wyatt was standing in the front of me with his hands stretched out towards me. It took me a second to realize he was here before I collapsed into his arms crying. I heard footsteps and gasps from around the room.
Forcing myself to stop crying, I wiped away the tears and stood up.
“No one is to touch him,” I said, strangely calm. “I will tell you what happened. Br—”
“I found a video camera,” I heard from the door. I snapped my head in that direction and saw Maverick pull a video camera out from the top of the doorframe. I missed it, but I really didn’t look over there either.
“Go find a TV.” Looking at Wyatt, I said, “You may not want to watch it.”
“Wyatt, it’s Brooke!” Someone said, and Wyatt’s eyes instantly shot over to her lifeless body. I ran over to the pile and moved the bodies until I got to Kelly and pulled her out. She was still breathing, and the baby’s heartbeat was still there. I grabbed her and refused to let her go.
“No, she stays with me until Reed is here!” I yelled at the men who were trying to take her from me. Wyatt just watched the whole thing, not sure what to think of it.
“Nina, what happened?” he asked, looking at the bodies and back at his sisters. At that moment, Maverick returned with a TV. Plugging in the recording, he pressed play. I watched in horror again as Brooke shot each person as I clung to Kelly’s lifeless body, then of Brooke breaking the bond with Zach. Everyone in the room was silent. Next was Grant showing up and leaving. They watched me try to protect Kelly and hide her and rearrange the room. They watched Grant come back and listened to his full confession and how I blasted him against the wall. They looked at the wall, at Grant, and at the bodies. No one said a word.
“Let’s go home,” Wyatt finally said as he grabbed my shoulders and helped me up. Reed moved forward and I placed Kelly in his hands.
“She is okay. The baby is good,” I assured him. He nodded and held her close as we went to walk away.
“What about him?” A guy asked that I didn’t recognize.
I just walked over to Grant and snapped his neck before holding my head up high and walking out with Wyatt behind me.
