Chapter 31 - Breaking Points
Seraphina POV
The silence between Lucian and me was suffocating, each passing moment thick with unspoken words, unacknowledged feelings. I could feel the weight of his gaze on me, even when his eyes weren’t on mine. It was as though the air itself had become dense, charged with something I didn’t know how to name, a tension that was beginning to unravel me from the inside out.
I had never been one to shy away from a fight, never been the type to yield to pressure. But with him… it was different. I couldn’t explain it, and I hated myself for it. I hated how easily I was drawn to him, how my heart seemed to beat in sync with his every move, every breath. I had promised myself that I would never let him control me, never let him have the power to sway me so easily.
But I could feel it. His influence was creeping in, like poison in my veins, and every moment we shared, every word he spoke, only made it harder to fight.
Lucian stood by the window, his back to me, looking out at the city below. I watched him silently, the harsh lines of his posture only adding to the air of danger that surrounded him. I wanted to speak, to demand answers, to force him to tell me what he wanted from me. But each time I opened my mouth, the words caught in my throat.
I was so tired of pretending that I didn’t care. So tired of acting like I didn’t want him to just… break me.
"Seraphina," his voice cut through the silence, and I froze. "Come here."
There it was again. The command, the demand hidden beneath the surface of his words. I hated how easily I responded to it. Every instinct in me screamed to resist, to turn away, but my legs moved before I could think, and soon I found myself standing before him.
His eyes locked onto mine, and for a moment, I saw something flicker there. A fleeting glimpse of something softer—something almost… vulnerable. But it was gone before I could register it, replaced with that familiar intensity that always made my pulse quicken.
"You’ve been distant," Lucian said, his voice low, almost thoughtful. "I can’t have that."
I swallowed hard. "I’m not distant," I lied. "I’m just… tired."
"Tired?" he repeated, his voice dark and teasing. "Or are you running from something?"
I wanted to argue, wanted to deny it, but the truth was too obvious. I was running. From him, from myself. From whatever this… thing was that had been growing between us. The attraction that I couldn't control, no matter how hard I tried.
I shook my head, forcing myself to stand taller. "I’m not running from anything."
Lucian took a step forward, closing the distance between us, his presence overwhelming. "Lying to me won’t help, Seraphina," he said, his voice low, almost a growl. "I know you too well. I know you’re just as consumed by this as I am."
His words hit me like a physical blow, and for a moment, I couldn’t breathe. How could he see right through me? How could he know what I was thinking, what I was feeling, when I couldn’t even admit it to myself?
"You’re wrong," I whispered, my voice trembling despite my best efforts to stay strong.
Lucian’s hand reached up, his fingers brushing against my cheek in a gesture so tender, so unexpected, that it made my heart skip a beat. "Am I?" he murmured, his touch sending a shiver down my spine. "I think you know exactly what you want. You just don’t want to admit it."
The world seemed to narrow down to just the two of us in that moment. My breath hitched, and I felt the weight of his words settle into the pit of my stomach. He was right. I did want him. And the longer I fought it, the more it consumed me.
But I wasn’t ready to admit that. Not yet. Not to him.
I took a step back, trying to create some space between us. "I don’t want this. I don’t want you to control me."
Lucian’s eyes darkened, the flicker of amusement gone. "You think you have any control over this?" he asked, his voice suddenly cold, dangerously calm. "You’ve never had control, Seraphina. You’ve always been mine."
His words sank into me, each syllable a weight that dragged me deeper into the web he’d been spinning around me since the moment we met. I wanted to fight it, to scream at him, but all I could do was stand there, my body betraying me as I felt the pull between us grow stronger.
Lucian stepped closer again, his breath warm against my ear. "I know what you need," he whispered, his voice a low murmur that sent a thrill of something dark through me. "And I’m the only one who can give it to you."
I trembled, torn between the desire to flee and the need to surrender. My hands clenched at my sides, my heart racing in my chest. "No," I breathed, my voice barely a whisper.
He chuckled softly, the sound a mix of dark amusement and something more dangerous. "You’re lying again," he said. "You want me just as much as I want you. The only difference is, I’m not afraid to admit it."
Before I could respond, Lucian’s hand was at the back of my neck, pulling me closer. My breath caught in my throat as he tilted my head back, forcing me to meet his gaze.
"You’re mine," he whispered again, this time with a certainty that made my knees weak. "And I’m not letting you go."
For a moment, everything seemed to stop. My mind screamed at me to pull away, to fight him, to stop this before it went too far. But my body was already betraying me. The need, the craving, the pull between us was too strong. I wanted him. I wanted him more than anything.
And before I could stop myself, I kissed him.

Lucian POV
I was surprised that she had taken the initiative in the kiss, but everything would go according to plan. As the night stretched on, I knew one thing for sure: I would never let her go.
She was mine, body and soul, and I intended to claim every part of her.
I pushed her down on the bed, my hands roaming her body like it was my own personal playground.
She was soft and warm beneath me, her skin like silk, and every touch sent an electric jolt through me.
I kissed my way down her body, savoring her taste, the way her breath caught in her throat.
When I reached the hem of her panties, I hesitated, looking up to meet her eyes.
She was watching me, her gaze dark and heavy with desire.
“Please,” she whispered, her voice a breathy plea.
That was all the encouragement I needed.
I slid her panties off slowly, savoring the way her eyes never left mine.
And then I buried my face between her thighs, tasting her, teasing her, until she was writhing beneath me, her hands tangled in my hair.
She was sweet and salty, a heady mix that drove me wild.
But as much as I wanted to lose myself in her, to make her fall apart, this was only the beginning.
I wanted to hear her scream my name, to feel her clench around me as she fell into the abyss.
So I kissed my way back up her body, stopping to tease her nipples before trailing my lips along her jaw.
“Lucian,” she moaned, her voice a desperate plea.
I didn’t make her wait any longer.
I entered her slowly, savoring the way she stretched around me, the way her eyes closed in ecstasy.
And then I started moving, a steady rhythm that left us both panting.
She was tight and wet and so fucking perfect, and with every thrust, I felt myself getting closer and closer to the edge.
But I held back, drawing out the moment, wanting to make it last.
I wanted to watch her come undone beneath me, to know that it was me, and only me, who could make her feel this way.
And when she finally came apart, her entire body shaking with relief, I let her go.
I followed her to the edge, my name a prayer on her lips as we fell into the darkness together.

Afterward, as we lay on the sheets, our bodies slick with sweat, I knew one thing for sure:
I would never be able to let her go.
She had branded herself into my soul, and no matter how hard I tried, I knew I would never be able to escape her.
And deep down, a part of me didn’t want to.
Because in her, I had found something I thought I had lost a long time ago.
Something that made me feel alive.
And I would do whatever it took to keep her by my side, as long as she accepted me.
