CHAPTER 51
She was severely outnumbered and almost out of ideas by this point. If she was being kidnapped, she had to leave something behind for Valiance to search for her… to know where they might be. This guy was in human form, he might be good in fighting, and he might be quick. But the three dragons – she could try to kill one of them if she was fast enough and accurate enough.
“You can’t outrun four of us love. So stop working your pretty little head and come along. We’ve already wasted enough time”.
Decision made, her hand shot up and her knife struck precisely between the eyes of one of the unsuspecting dragons.
“You bitch” the man snarled and lunged towards her but she took advantage of those precious seconds and threw the other knife at the soft throat of the same dragon to ensure his death; who was now busy in bellowing and falling over his feet.
Her knives had done their work and now his bellows might have woken every one up. The man back handed her so hard that she fell over… tripping Sarah along.
“Grab them and fly you idiots. What are you waiting for? An invitation?” he yelled at his dragons and shifted instantly.
She tried to get up but her head spin so hard she hit the ground again. And the next thing she knew claws were grabbing her and Sarah who was now screaming. She was afraid no doubt – but a part of her knew that Valiance would find her and she’ll meet him again. This wasn’t the end of them. She had left a dead dragon as his first clue after all. He’ll know who they were. And he’ll come for her. And she knew Damien would be there by his side.

Katie’s journal:
Alex is asleep. He looks so peaceful and beautiful like this. His shoulder length auburn hair are messy in his sleep. I brush them away from his face and run my fingers on his features. His straight nose, his perfect lips and long lashes women would kill for. He is so perfect… and he is mine. And I’m about to rob him of his source of happiness. I’m going to take away his memories of our beautiful baby princess. She is asleep in her nursery next door that her father set for her so lovingly. It’ll all be gone. He won’t remember a thing. But I would… I would remember every detail… and I would suffer for him as well as for myself. It’s my curse. I gave him only a month with his precious little bundle of joy as he liked to call her. I’m cruel, heartless… I’m a witch after all. Wherever I go, happiness leaves that place.
Slowly I touched my fingers to his forehead; entering his mind… what I see there, takes my breath away… his memories of me… our daughter… our time together… the way he sees us… the way he is so determined to keep us away from harm. I snatch my hand away. I can’t do this.
But I have to do this. Who else would? What other choice do I have? I have to do this. Slowly, I put my trembling fingers back on his forehead. This time I ignore his memories… if I don’t look; they won’t affect me. Or so I thought before blocking them away in the far recesses of his mind… a place he won’t ever find them again. When he wakes up it will be just him and me again.
I go to the nursery and it is not difficult for me to change the outlook of this cute little room… my daughter’s little world… and then I take her in my arms for Alex. I kiss her face for him. She has his hair, his straight nose and beautiful lips. She has my eyes though… but hers are such a beautiful green they take my breath away every time I look at them. But she is asleep right now so I can’t look at them. On one hand I wish she opens her beautiful eyes for me to see them in these last moments that she’s mine. On the other, I dread to look in her eyes and give her away.
I steel myself, averting my gaze from her face, and take her to hand her over to her new parents who I’m sure will love her very much.
And this is when I lose a piece of my heart – darkening my already black heart further. Damning my soul for eternity.
…………………………………………………
We are like gypsies – moving places every few years… not laying down roots. We couldn’t stay in one place for long and call it home. I feared my sisters would locate us. Alex wasn’t happy with this constant fear I had to live with but he respected my wishes even though he kept reminding me that he could keep us safe. I just wasn’t prepared to put our peace in jeopardy. I am strong. Maybe stronger than every single one of them but I am not naive enough to think that i could take on a whole coven of blood witches by myself with a single dragon at my side. however strong my mate might be in his own right. My fear was authentic and crippling. And it wasn't just my coven I was afraid of. I also feared discovery. Because if anyone from our world discovered us, I would lose everything, including my mate.
Besides I never wanted to put him at the mercy of my whole coven if I could help it. I’d done enough evil to the poor man already. If he knew what I’d done to him, he’d probably burry me alive. So once again we were preparing to leave our life in Texas behind to lay new roots in a small town near New York City. It was a beautiful place – peaceful and quiet… just what we wanted. I’d accepted a job at the local hospital and I was hopeful for our new journey.
