Chapter 50
Oliver was still caught up in the excitement of having finally awakened the power of the wood element. He stared at his hands as if they belonged to someone else, amazed by the gentle green glow that seemed to pulse beneath his skin. Over and over, he practiced guiding the wood element, feeling the energy flow through him with increasing confidence. The sensation was unlike anything he had ever experienced, a deep connection to the life force of nature itself. He closed his eyes and imagined the roots of a great tree spreading out beneath him, anchoring him firmly to the ground while the leaves above reached toward the sky. Each time he moved his hands, he could feel the energy respond, growing stronger and more vivid.
He couldn’t help but laugh, feeling lighter than he had in days. His laughter was full of relief and pride, a moment of pure joy after so much struggle and doubt. Then, with a playful grin, he ran over to Isabella and asked eagerly if he could do what Nova had just done—merge different elemental powers into pure elemental energy or even awaken more elements himself. The possibility of such power made his heart race. He wanted to know if his journey as a Son of Light was only beginning or if there were limits to what he could achieve.
Isabella’s smile deepened at his enthusiasm. She looked at him with a mixture of warmth and confidence, knowing that this spark of hope and determination was crucial for his growth. She nodded, reassuring him that anything was possible. “Every Son of Light has the potential to develop far beyond what they imagine,” she said kindly. “My duty is to help each of you unlock the greatest power and talent you hold inside.”
Her words filled Oliver with hope. He felt a new sense of purpose rising within him, replacing the fear and uncertainty that had clouded his mind before. He realized that the path ahead would be difficult and full of challenges, but with Isabella’s guidance, he could face whatever came next. For the first time, the dream of becoming a true elementalist no longer seemed so distant or impossible. Instead, it felt like a goal within reach, a future he could shape with his own hands and determination.
James looked at Nova and Oliver with a mixture of gratitude and admiration. He thanked them sincerely for their efforts in saving him and expressed how impressed he was by how quickly they had advanced in controlling their elemental powers. At the same time, there was a hint of envy in his voice as he confessed how he wished he could awaken his own elemental abilities soon. “I’m really happy for both of you,” he said, “but I can’t help feeling a little left behind. When will my power awaken?”
Isabella met his eyes calmly and offered reassurance. She told James not to be discouraged or rush the process. Everyone’s path was different, and awakening elemental power depended on many things—timing, readiness, and inner growth. She promised that when the moment was right, James would succeed in his own way. “Don’t worry,” she said with a gentle smile. “Your power will come when you are truly ready.”
James nodded, feeling comforted by her words, though a quiet determination grew within him. He knew he had to be patient but also prepared himself for the challenges ahead.
At that moment, the group’s attention shifted toward Samuel, who lay unconscious on the ground. His face was pale, and his breathing was shallow, clearly showing the toll that guiding the powerful water element had taken on him. The strain from channeling such a demanding force was evident. Everyone exchanged worried glances, silently acknowledging how much energy Samuel must have poured out before collapsing.
Nova’s eyes were fixed on Samuel with a mixture of confusion and concern. She still couldn’t understand why he had suddenly turned hostile and attacked her. The memory of the ice cones raining down, the sharpness of the ice sword, and the fear in those moments lingered in her mind. It was hard for her to believe that the calm, quiet Samuel they knew could suddenly lose control like that.
Turning toward Isabella, Nova’s voice trembled slightly as she asked, “Why did Samuel attack me all of a sudden? What happened to him? Was it really just him, or was there something else causing it?”
Isabella’s expression grew serious as she regarded Samuel’s motionless form. “That is a very good question,” she said quietly. “Samuel’s attack was not entirely his own doing. He was influenced and controlled by an outside force. His sudden aggression, the way he lost control, it all points to some form of mental manipulation or magical influence beyond his own will.”
Nova’s confusion deepened. “Controlled by someone else? But who would want to control Samuel? And why?”
Isabella shook her head slowly, a hint of worry in her eyes. “I don’t know yet. That is something we need to investigate carefully. Whoever did this had a purpose in mind, and it is important for us to uncover the truth behind it before it causes more harm. It also explains why Samuel could suddenly channel such a dangerous power in a way that seemed so unlike himself.”
Nova looked at Samuel again, her heart heavy with concern for her friend. She struggled to reconcile the Samuel she knew with the one who had suddenly become violent and unrecognizable in those terrifying moments. “So, Samuel wasn’t really himself. That makes me feel a little better, but also scared. If someone else can control him like that, what else could happen?”
Isabella nodded. “Exactly. We must be very careful moving forward. The most urgent thing right now is to ensure everyone’s safety and figure out who is behind this control. But first, we need to help Samuel recover and understand how this happened.”
Nova looked at Isabella, her resolve strengthening despite the confusion and fear. She wanted to protect her friends and find answers. “We will get through this,” Isabella said firmly. “But for now, we must focus on healing and preparing for what comes next.”
With those words, the group silently turned their attention back to Samuel, hoping that he would wake soon and that they could begin to unravel th
e mystery of what had happened.
