Conri's POV
Viviana raised an eyebrow at me and I stared at her wondering how to begin my words.
At first, the sharp look in her eyes said otherwise but I don't mind, I must come here to fulfill what I want.
"It's about Nelson," I revealed.
Immediately she heard his name, a serious look appeared on his face. Gently, she placed the cup of tea on the table, a frown appeared on her face as she gazed at me.
"Nelson?"
"Yes, Nelson," I affirmed with a nod.
Viviana sat upright, her eyes not letting go of me.
"Is anything wrong with him?" She asked, a concerned tone in her voice.
I shook my head, "Nelson is alright but he might not be by this time tomorrow" I said to her and a worried expression appeared on her face at the sound of my voice.
"I don't understand what you mean by this. Is there anything going on that he doesn't want me to know about?"
I adjusted my posture on the sofa I sat on, folded my fingers together, and stared at her.
"Our men got attacked by the hunters' pack, during the time they were abducted, they got to know that a traitor is present here in the pack and will be meeting up with the gutters werewolves deep in the woods. Nelson insists on going into the woods himself to find out who this stranger is…." I paused watching her very worried face, "I tried to stop him, telling him that I need to go along with him but you know how stubborn Nelson can be, you know him as much as I do. He rejected and insisted he goes alone not minding the risks associated with it" I narrated watching her flickering eyes.
To my surprise, Viviana got up from the sofa she sat on. Great fear and concern lingered in her eyes which couldn't stop flickering around as she scanned her room. Slowly, she walked towards an open window, her eyes fixed outside.
I stood up and took some steps closer to her, "Viviana, I know that my friend Nelson loves you. We both know this, the whole kingdom does so I think you are in a better position to talk to him. Help him see the reason why it's so risky for him to go alone. He can be ambushed by the hunters who won't waste time killing him since this is an opportunity they have been waiting for. Nelson is yet to be crowned Alpha and if he should eventually get killed, it will be harder than it seems, nothing fruitful will come out of it" I paused watching her stare at the outside in deep thoughts.
"I need you to speak to Nelson before it's too late. We don't want to give our enemy a chance to get Nelson. Fine, I understand that this traitor needs to be found but at the same time, he can't go alone. He needs me and his men, it's not just the best watching him leave the pack. Please, Viviana, you need to talk to him, help him see reason, I am sure that If he doesn't listen to anyone else, he will to you" I spoke, my gaze not still leaving her because I was so sure that her love for Nelson won't sit back and watch him die in the hands of his enemies.
Slowly, Viviana turned around to me, she didn't look pleased and at the same time, the look of worry that was plastered on her face was so obvious assuring me that she will definitely speak some sense into Nelson before he goes and gets himself killed.
"Conri" she called out to me softly, this time, her gaze not leaving me.
"We both know Nelson more than anyone else. For Nelson to suggest that he goes alone, he must have thought deeply about this. Nelson isn't the kind of person that decides without thinking about the consequences. We are both sure that he is fully aware of this but he just wants to go along with this because of the safety of you and his men…."
"But I don't care" I cut her short and continued with my words. "Right now, it's not just a relationship between an Alpha and his Beta, it's between two great friends and I won't just sit my ass back in the pack knowing that my friend has embarked on a suicide mission, it just doesn't work this way, never Viviana! If Nelson doesn't need his men but he needs me, you know this too! Watching him go into the woods just to have him as bait to those wretched hunters is going to be a great mistake on my part. I am the Beta of this park, what do you think is my duty? Do you think that I am just bearing the name Beta just for bearing sake? No Viviana! It doesn't work this way, we both have been here in this park for so long so we both know how things work around here" I said, pouting out my fears as we locked eyes together.
"Nelson is way too stubborn to change his decision" Vivina chipped.
"I am well aware of this, this is the reason why I want you to speak to him. You hold the key to his heart, you both have been lovers for years and I am certain that Nelson we do anything to please you not minding if it will cost him any discomfort"
Vivina let out a deep breath, she looked more worried than I thought she would be. Her blue eyes sparkled so intensively as she stood thinking very hard.
"When was this information about the traitor gotten?" She suddenly implored.
"Today"
"Oh I see" she muttered, scabbed around her room, and returned her gaze to me.
"Where is Nelson?" She asked.
At first, I had no idea where he might be right now. I left him in the hall. He insisted on speaking to Tinox regarding an issue which of course I didn't want him to be aware of. It's been an hour since I left the hall. Right now, if he isn't in his chamber, he should be present in his office.
"I don't have any idea. He might be in his chamber or office" I replied.
"Where were we when you left him?" She asked.
"In the hall" I responded.
"Alone?"
I shook my head in disagreement, "No, he was present with the elders of the pack"
Viviana didn't say a word, she just nodded and looked away. One thing she knows about is that the elders of the pack have always been against her relationship with Nelson, everyone in the palace is aware of this so I am sure that this must cost her a lot of discomfort coming across the elders, especially Tinox.
"Alright, I will speak to Nelson before the end of today. I will make him see the reasons and see how dangerous the whole situation is. He is my lover, even though he got married to that human girl, I still consider him mine and no one takes that title away from me. We both know this, you know how much I and Nelson are in love, and I won't fold my arms and watch him walk into a deadly out, no way" Saying this, Viviana turned around to me, the confident look she wore when I walked into her room appeared again on her face and her lips stretched into a smile.
"You have nothing to worry about Conri. Nelson is mine, he listens to every word I say to him just to please me…" her eyes sparkled in delight as she said those words, and I couldn't help but wonder what she meant by it.
"Just relax and watch me do my thing. I will talk to him and help him change his mind" she smirked, "you should get that worried look off your face and watch how I will turn things around for good"
Hearing her words, I felt so much relief, although her tone sounded so sure in a way that it was really questioning. But at the same time, I felt happy that I can accomplish what I came here to do. I have gotten her into helping me change his mind, now, I just have to wait and watch it all play smoothly.
"Let him know that he can't go alone, he needs his men or me, him leaving alone is far more dangerous than he can detect" I chipped in watching her.
Her smile deepened, "You have absolutely nothing to worry about. It's done already, I will do exactly as you just said. I just hope he listens to me, Nelson can be very hard to crack so we should keep our fingers crossed, anything can happen at any time".
Hearing her words, I nodded, giving her a forced smile.
"Alright, it's good to hear that you are willing to help, I do appreciate this favor. I have to take my leave now, it was nice seeing you again after all these years"
She smiled, "I know that you won't want to have any business to do with me if this issue didn't come folding on you"
Taken aback by her words, I narrowed my gaze at her.
"What makes you say so?"
She laughed, "I know you too well, Conri. I know that you are in support of Nelson's decision on getting married to that human girl. You all never wanted me for him including his snobbish sister Anabelle. But you know what…."her smile deepened, "It's not a problem, I will help you out with this. You know damn well how good my heart is, I won't hold your action against you because this has to deal with the love of my life and I don't joke with him"
Speechless, I didn't know what to say to her, "Thanks for agreeing to help" I managed to say, and without wasting another minute in there, I walked out of the room but I could still feel her gaze piercing so deep on my fiesh.
