A call of duty

A Call Of Duty.

Nelson's POV

The front view of the field felt so new, standing next to an open window in the large meeting hall, I stood waiting patiently for the elders, a call concerning the death of my father.

Letting out a deep sigh, I dipped my hand into my pocket, brought out a small white towel and gently wiped my face. The passing of my father today has brought so many opened doors and responsibilities passed down to me. I know that being the next Alpha in line, I will be left to deal with certain matters, I have been training my whole life for this and I am certain I will be as great just like my father.

"Prince Nelson '' A familiar voice called out to me.

I turned around to the direction the voice came from, six of the pack elders walked in, their faces filled with several expressions.

"Good to see you Prince Nelson" an old man with gray hair and strong eyes walked towards the young prince as the rest stood behind him watching.

"It's so sad to hear about the death of your father, he was a great Alpha and led the pack in the right path…." He paused, turned to his accomplices and returned his gaze at me, "We the elders were there when your father was crown the new Alpha during his youth age, we watch the full moon which rose along with your mother who ended up becoming the Luna of the pack"

A frown rested on my face, hearing the name of my mother at times brought some strange feelings to my heart.

"It's good to have you all here" I let out glancing at them one after the other, "You are indeed right, you elders has always been there ever since I was a child, your wisdom has helped my father greatly and I am certain that he must agree to this wherever he is"

Tinox, the first elder who spoke before nodded in agreement, "Indeed, but right now, we have to start preparations on making you the next Alpha. We don't want to waste any time because if we do, it won't be for the benefit of the other werewolves. We all know that our other rival packs are waiting patiently to strike, they have prepared themselves greatly to get whatever belongs to us at all costs. It's no news that the death of your father must have reach their ears, this is why we have to be fast about your coronation and that of your Luna"

"The Luna?" I suddenly asked, staring at Tinox who gazed back at me.

"Yes the Luna…" he responded looking confused by my question, "You know do well that you both will be coronated on the same day since she is your wife"

I shrug, my eyebrows furrowed Into a frown.

"But she is just a human," I pointed out.

"And she is your wife!" Tinox asserted, giving me a displeased look, "It's been more than a week since you got married to her, why can't you just come to the realization that she belongs to you now and you to her. You don't have to look so tightened at the sound of her name"

"I don't care, I was never in support of this marriage"

"But your father wanted this"

"He is dead! He is lying six feet under the ground, we all know that!" I yelled as my voice echoed loudly, each Elder throwing glances at each other.

"Prince Nelson, you have to obey your father's words even if he is dead. Your father has a solid reason for letting you marry a human who will end up becoming Luna. This is something that has never occured before and you are the first to bring it to life, your regime. I see no wrong in this, nothing out of the ordinary at all"

I stared at the elders fully bittered, they are right, I have married Melissa and there is nothing I can do to change that.

"But that doesn't mean that I do accept her as my Luna" I let out sternly.

"You will soon, the moon goddess choose this path for you in the first place, she made this decision and when the time comes, you will realize this, you need to get her prepared for her coronation, let her get things out of her mind and you should grow to love her before it gets late for you"

Confused by his words, "Late? I don't understand you"

Tinox took a step closer to me, this time, there was a Stern expression plastered on his face, "You have to do the right thing now, that human you see might not just be ordinary, fate placed her in your hand and if you plant so much sees of hatred in her heart towards you, a time will come that you will need her but won't find her. Nothing you will do will be able to please her, your opinion won't matter anymore and before you will realize it, she will be gone, far away from your reach. Know this now and get it fix" his eyes were so sharp that I couldn't help but think deeply.

Is there something he is hiding from me?

My father and Tinox were so close, how sure is it that they both know something they don't want to inform me on.

What is so special about this human that they decided to break the law of the pack by letting me, the next Alpha, get married to a human. This is something that shocked me so great when I was informed and not only did I break my heart but also the heart of my lover, Viviana.

"We won't be together?" I remember her words so clearly, the shocked look buried in her eyes as she gazed at me the moment I broke the news to her.

Fresh tears filled her eyes and rolled down faster than ever. It hurt me so much to see her in pain. I was about to lose it, yes I was but at the same time, as the next Alpha, I have to place the safety of my pack first rather than my own selfish wish.

"I am sorry Viviana" I whispered to her with my arms wrapped around her, she couldn't stop sobbing, her cries madey heart bleed.

"I am sorry, this is the decision of the moon goddess, this is what she intends I do…"

"But why Nelson?" Viviana quickly cut her short, she raised her head up to me, our eyes locked together as her already red tears soaked face plastered on me.

"Why Nelson?"

"After everything we have been through, the years we have been waiting for us to become mates under the guidance of the moon goddess, after every memories we have shared together, do you just want to let it go to waste like that" she screamed at me like a lunatic, her eyes widened with more tears dripping down uncontrollably.

As speechless as I was, I could feel her pain, she loves me and I do too but the hands of fate have made a hole in our love and now, I have to be mated to a human, a human I haven't met before.

I stared at Tinox as the old memories flashed through my mind.

"We have to leave now" Tinox announced, the displeased expression not leaving his face, he took a step closer to me, his eyes still sharp as that of a blade.

"Think about what I told you, if not, you will have a lot to regret and an ugly story to tell. I heard that you are still messing up with that Werewolf lover of yours, you are the Alpha and I have no right to tell you what to do but as an elder, when I see something that isn't right, I will definitely speak up and tell you right from the box. That werewolf lover of yours is of no good to you or the pack, the better you get this stuck in your head, the better for your regime. We will meet later" he muttered and without waiting for me to utter a word, Tinox walked out of the hall along with the five elders who said nothing in the whole talk.

I stared at the door they disappeared into, at first, different unspoken words ran through my mind in a way that felt so strange. The look of Tinox who isn't just an elder but also the Gamma of this pack, the third in command after Conri who is the next Beta in line.

I turned around and began to pace back and forth, my mind was filled with so many thoughts, thoughts that made me more confused than I have ever been.

"Prince Nelson" A voice alerted me.

Averting my gaze, standing next to the door was Conri who had a smile on his face. He took more steps into the room, his eyes fixed on me.

I looked at him. Conri has always been the prince charming of the pack. I have heard stories of female werewolves drooling around him due to his fine physique and graceful way. He is the finest of all men after me and I see no better man to grant the honor of my Beta if not him.

"Sorry about the death of your father" Conri spoke out taking a slight bow. "He was a great man and I know that you will do better"

I smiled at his words, "I hope so, the whole thing feels so strange now knowing that he is no longer with me…." I stared Into space and took a deep breath, "Right now, all responsibility falls on me and as soon as the coronation takes place, I will end up doing the best that I can do"

Conri nodded, "I am certain that you will.do well. It's been a while we have had a real discussion after I left the pack for some business in the human world"

Surprised, I turned to him, "You visited the human world?"

"Of course I did…" he paused looking at me, "And I must admit, I prefer their world to ours"

"Why do you say so?" I was a bit offended but I didn't show it.

"I don't have any reason to be honest. Don't get me wrong, I love the pack and everything present in it. Of course, I grew up here, we both grew up like brothers along with your sister Anabelle whom I see as my little sister. But after leaving the pack to get some adventure because u are certain that I won't once I become Beta. The responsibilities of the pack won't let me have such experience and I was not going to miss it for any reason" he spoke, his voice filled with so much elegance just the way I have always known Conri for.

"You have always been adventurous my friend" I noted and Conri laughed.

"Mixing and living with the humans is a thing of joy, you should try that one day" Conri noted.

I looked at him wondering why he said that but I decided to let his words say, "I won't, there is no time for that since I will be made Alpha in no time."

"Oh, I understand that but at times, you need a little fun in your life and not being bound by the walls of the pack. Take my advice, I am sure that you won't regret this" Conri noted.

I smiled, "This is my pack Conri, I can't leave my duties just for fun. There are so many things to take care of, so many rival packs waiting for the appropriate time for them to strike and we must be ready at all times. Come on, let's go to my study room, we have a lot to discuss about"

With his hands behind him, Conri walked side by side to me and together, we strolled out of the hall heading down the hallway.
