Alpha Werewolf
Duran stopped in his tracks when he saw Cameron sniffing, "Is something burning?" Alvis asked, because he didn't understand the sudden sniffing of the man who just entered. "The scent --" Cameron paused, his eyes on Duran. "--- you are not human." He seized him.
Glendale, Gray and Kelvin were surprised. Why is Cameron reacting this way? Duran has always been his favorite person. It was another reason why he had to stay back to save Duran in the forest of warm bodies and that was why they were trapped there.
"Cameron, let him go." Kelvin touched Cameron's shoulders but one glare from him threatened Kelvin's vampire nature to step in. "His scent -- is different." Cameron sniffed again, especially towards Duran's neck. "What's wrong with his scent?" Glendale asked, sniffing everywhere but everyone had a normal scent.
Gray paused, his eyes glinted, focusing straight at Duran. There, the scent wavered past his nostrils. "It's true. Duran isn't human anymore." Gray supported, standing up. "What do you mean he isn't human anymore? Isn't he the same Duran we know?" Glendale fired, feeling annoyed at the way Duran was being attacked.
"Duran, say something too!" Kelvin shouted. Duran's head was hung low all these times, he didn't know Cameron would find out this easily. There was a reason he is his big brother, things never escape his knowledge. "Duran?...." Glendale called, urging him to talk.
Alvis licked his lips, "It is true. Duran isn't human anymore." He cleared his throat and Duran threw a side glance at him. "So, what is he if he is no more human?" Glendale asked, feeling confused of everything. What the hell are they talking about?
"I am a werewolf." Duran finally dropped the bombshell. Cameron's hands loosened from his shirt, making Duran drop down. "What did you say?" Kelvin asked, feeling unsure of what he just heard and he was sure Glendale would like a recap too.
Duran rearranged his shirt and looked at everyone of them, "I am no more human but now, a werewolf." He repeated in a more concise manner. "But I swear, I had no idea how it happened." He demonstrated with his hands, "I swear! It just happened, I had no idea."
Cameron ruffled his hair, making his way to sit down. "Tell us how it happened. Because I don't think there is any werewolf present in this city." He motioned and Duran came close. "When and how did it happen?" Glendale added to the questions, also grabbing a chair to sit.
"It happened in -- the forest of warm bodies." Duran sighed, "When we wanted to save Gray, I --" He was still saying, "Hold on -- the wolf." Cameron pointed out and he nodded. "What wolf? What are you guys talking about!" Glendale hit her hands on her thighs, tired of the suspicious explanations.
Cameron did a quick flashback in his mind, "A wolf attacked Duran and that was when the portal opened so Kelvin to go because I needed to save Duran. By the time I met Duran, the wolf already bit him because I had to stop the blood." He recounted.
"That was why he was unconscious and the wound had to be treated." Glendale remembered. "How did you know he is a werewolf then? It was just an ordinary wolf that bit him." Glendale argued, "That forest isn't an normal forest. Whatever thing in that forest isn't ordinary." Cameron said.
"How did you know it was a werewolf?" Gray asked, "When you guys had me treated, the wound was initially banded up. I woke up, didn't feel any pain so I removed the bandage ---" Duran explained, "--- and the bite was gone. My flesh returned. Ever since then, I could hear something from a far distance, my speed ability increased and I get angry easily." He added.
Glendale face palmed herself, "Have you shape shifted?" Cameron finally asked the last question. Duran didn't talk at first, "He is already a complete werewolf." Alvis helped his friend out. "Fuck!" They all muttered. "All our efforts went to waste. We tried to protect you but we sent to this ourselves." Kelvin felt heartbroken.
Duran sighed, looking at every one of them. "Come here...." Glendale motioned for Duran to sit on her thighs. Alvis almost felt like crying, watching how these vampires treats Duran. He is being treated like an egg, like an helpless human. They treat him like he is their kid brother. These vampires aren't just his friends, they are his family.
"How do you feel? .....being a werewolf?" Glendale asked, she wanted Duran to let out what was in his mind because she was sure he wouldn't be taking it lightly with himself. "I walked into being a werewolf myself." Duran looked outside the curtains, it was getting dark.
All of them listened to him as he got trapped in his thoughts, "It was very hard when I found out I was no more human. I've been a human all my life but one day, everything suddenly changed." He started while Glendale rubbed his back slowly to keep him going.
"I never knew what it feels like I see you all grow claws and fangs but when I half shifted, I felt it. It was pain and I swear, I didn't want it. Even as I envied you guys super powers, I never wanted it for myself." He continued.
Alvis sighed, "If I am not careful, my academics and career would end. Being a baseball celebrity would end because of this werewolf thing." His voice heightened. "Everyone around me will suffer for it. I wouldn't be able to eat or do things like a normal human anymore. Being a werewolf isn't so cool --" Alvis's eyes traveled to the curtains and he blinked, there was a shadow.
"Should we find the wolf? It should be able to give us answers." Kelvin suggested. "I've tried. Ilse said the wolf is gone. I can never find it and I can't go back to being human." Duran stomped his foot on the ground. "It can't just disappear?!" Glendale got angry, what sort of forest is that anyways?
Alvis's eyes weren't deceiving, there is someone outside - listening to their conversations. "You cannot return to a normal human once the cycle of the complete shape shifting has occurred." Cameron gave the final verdict.
Duran flew up from Glendale's laps angrily, "Don't you understand? I never wanted any of these. I never asked to be a werewolf!" He yelled, "Duran, there would be a reason that wolf bit you. There is a reason he chose you to become a werewolf." Cameron said. He was trying to fix all possible clues because it wasn't possible to just become a werewolf overnight.
"Well, fuck his reasons. I didn't ask to be chosen. I don't want to be a werewolf." Duran shouted, pushing the strands of his hair backwards. "You are already one so the faster you accept that, the better it'll be for you." Gray yelled at him harshly.
Alvis's gaze was still on the window where the shadow was. In the next second, the shadow disappeared and gradually, a full moon appeared. "Oh....no!" He muttered, walking towards Duran in a fast pace. "We need to go now." He grabbed Duran's hands.
"They don't get it, Alvis. I got bitten by a wolf and the next thing, I'm growing claws and fangs and shape shifting? How the hell does that happen?" Duran angrily threw Alvis's hands off him. "Blood of Jesus, Duran..." He knew right away, Duran was already switching into the violent mode.
Cameron sensed it, "Calm down, Duran. We understand --"..... "No, you don't understand! I've been a human all twenty years of my life and then, I suddenly woke up being a werewolf. I don't want to be a werewolf!" He growled angrily.
That was it. Nobody can calm him down again. "I hate to be a werewolf!" That yell came out as an agitated and violent growl. "It's a full moon." Glendale whispered and they all looked at the window where the shadow of the moon shined brightly.
They all looked back at Duran who growled into the air, stretching his two hands forward - claws elongated. Another fierce growl, his fangs also grew out. "Everyone in this room is in danger the moment he completes his shape shifting."
"God ---" Kelvin watched as Duran total appearance changed. Duran's feet also became that of a wolf, his face and whole body was covered with thick furs. "I'm doomed." Alvis held his bag closer to his chest, his foster parents would definitely be looking for their adopted son right now and he was here, in front of a freaking shape shifted werewolf.
Duran raised his head up, directly at the full moon and gave a very loud howl. "Duran is not just a werewolf ---" Cameron's eyes widened, "--- he is an Alpha werewolf." Gray completed, his face also held complete shock.
