36. Intense Emotions Unveiled

**Later...

"He's a shameless son of a bitch," Ellen seethed.

Ellen's thoughts raced. How could he possibly have the audacity to suggest meeting up with her when he had been involved with another woman?

Burning anger surged within Ellen towards this man. He held an inexplicable power over her. Even though she despised him, and their interactions often devolved into bickering, her heart raced uncontrollably whenever he was near.

She returned to her apartment to freshen up before meeting Paul; she didn't really have a choice. Despite her reluctance, she knew she had to go.

After a while, she emerged, having prepared herself, opting for a pair of jeans and a loose blouse that cascaded gently over her shoulders.

With a spritz of perfume and a swipe of lip gloss, Ellen navigated the corridors, attempting to mask her nervousness. She consciously relaxed her shoulders and pressed onward.

Upon reaching the hallway leading to Paul's apartment, Ellen leaned against the wall, trying to muster the courage to knock on his door.

A beep from her cell phone drew her attention. She fished it out of her pocket and glanced at the message from her friend.

"What are you up to, my friend?"

Ellen offered a brief response.

"Just the usual. I'll be over at your place soon, alright?"

Ellen sent the message and took a deep breath, attempting to steady her nerves. She ran her fingers through her hair and continued her determined steps forward.

Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Paul's apartment door opening, and he stepped out.

Paul was dressed in a subtly revealing shirt that showcased his attractive physique. His hair was slicked back, and his trademark elegant swagger was on full display.

A trace of his cologne lingered in the air as Ellen's gaze swept over him. She couldn't help but drink in his presence, her eyes lingering on every inch of his form.

As Paul turned towards her, a mischievous grin played upon his lips. He appraised her from the strands of her hair to the length of her thighs, his admiration evident in his gaze. No longer content with mere games, Paul felt an undeniable urge to be honest with her about his feelings—he wanted her.

Pretense was no longer an option. He couldn't go on ignoring the emotions that surged within him whenever she was around. He desired her fervently.

Ellen's hands intertwined nervously as she stared at him, struggling to control her trembling.

Paul's grin persisted as he sidled up beside her. "Um... I didn't expect you to actually show up. It's a relief to see you're not all talk."

He chuckled softly, playfully tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear. Rolling her eyes, Ellen shot him a wry look.

"Don't get ahead of yourself. I'm here to hear what you have to say, so spit it out. I've got places to be."

Arms crossed defiantly, she provided him with her excuse, though beneath it all, a growing curiosity gnawed at her. She yearned to know what he had to reveal.

Her gaze remained unwavering as she awaited his words.

Paul's smile persisted as he reached out, placing his hand gently on her shoulder.

His lips brushed against her ear as he spoke in a hushed tone. "Ellen, don't play coy. You know exactly what I mean. It's written all over both of us."

With a racing heart, Ellen strained to keep her focus forward, avoiding his penetrating gaze.

His proximity ignited a frenzied beat within her chest. The closeness was overwhelming, his scent intoxicating. She feared losing control. Cursing internally, she drew a deep breath before responding. "Can we please skip the games? Just tell me what you want. You're wasting my time."

Turning to meet his gaze, she found Paul still standing there, his smile unyielding.

Growing impatient, Ellen pivoted to walk away, ready to abandon this strange encounter. She took a step, but Paul's grip on her hand halted her, pulling her back towards him.

Ellen stood face-to-face with the man, his fingers intertwined with the woman's hands. The closeness of their bodies created an electric tension; her breaths came in heavy, restless sighs. Locked in his intense gaze, she found herself unable to look away.

"Release me. What on earth do you think you're doing?" Her voice trembled with a mixture of fear and frustration, an urgent plea for him to let go. But he remained steadfast, his grip unyielding.

Both Paul and Ellen wore unwavering expressions, their eyes locked in a silent battle of emotions. He retained his firm hold on her hands, his words laden with intent.

"Ellen, the games have to end. What I want is crystal clear," he spoke intently, his words like a declaration of desire. The cadence of his voice deepened, sending shivers down her spine. In that moment, her heart threatened to burst, and an overwhelming desire to kiss him took hold. She yearned to feel his lips on hers, to bridge the gap between them.

Yet, conflicting thoughts tugged at her. Doubts clawed at her mind—what if there were other women in his life? What if he was merely toying with her? A wariness crept in, muddying the clarity of her emotions.

Suddenly, a solemn resolve replaced Ellen's initial vulnerability. With a swift movement, she extricated her hands from his grasp. Taking a step back, she fixed him with a serious gaze.

"Paul, I'm not naive. This game you're playing, it's not new. Did you think I didn't notice you with that woman earlier? And now, after just a few hours, you dare claim that you want me? When not long ago, you were with someone else? Save it. If you're so eager to be with her, go ahead."

Her words, sharp and charged, conveyed the frustration and pain she had held back. She needed distance. She didn't want to fall for a man who might only break her heart.

Putting distance between them, Ellen retreated further, but Paul pursued, his steps mirroring hers. His voice held a hint of exasperation as he spoke from behind.

"Don't jump to conclusions. Yes, she was holding onto my arm, but that's hardly the whole story. She's been following me around. Did you see anything beyond that touch? No, you didn't. There's more to it than meets the eye."

A deep breath escaped Paul's lips as he ran a hand through his hair, a gesture of frustration. He continued, his words laden with sincerity.

"Ellen, I genuinely want to know you better. Give me a chance to show you who I am, to prove my intentions. Don't judge me solely on assumptions."

Ellen's anger simmered beneath the surface. While she hadn't been aware of his entanglements with other women, she recognized her own mistakes too.

Facing him once more, Ellen met his gaze, her expression softened slightly. She offered a terse response. "Fine, Paul. One last chance."

Paul's spirits lifted at her words, a hopeful smile gracing his lips. He extended his hand, a silent invitation.

"Then come inside with me. I've prepared dinner."

Their hands met, the connection sparking a sensation that coursed through Ellen's veins. Suppressing the unexpected jolt of feeling, she followed him to the apartment, striving to contain the whirlwind of emotions within her.

Paul's grin was infectious; he harbored a mix of emotions he couldn't quite decipher. He wished for the night to stretch on, for this charged encounter to evolve into something deeper, more meaningful.
