Chapter 68 Good Baby
Chapter 68 Good Baby
Sophia frowned, reluctantly dragging herself out of sleep, her eyelids so heavy she could barely open them.
She fumbled for her phone on the nightstand, squinting at the screen.
The harsh light made her instinctively turn her head away. After a few seconds, she could finally see clearly.
It was a WhatsApp message from Arthur.
The content was simple, just one line: [Come to work on time tomorrow.]
Sophia stared at those words, her brain still foggy.
Work? Oh right, she still had a job. She was Arthur's secretary...
So he meant he was going to the office tomorrow?
But his injury wasn't fully healed yet, right? His fever just broke...
Drowsiness overwhelmed her. She didn't have the energy to think too much. Her fingers moved on instinct, tapping a few times on the screen and typing a reply.
Message sent.
Then the phone slipped from her hand and fell onto the pillow beside her. Her head tilted to the side, and instantly she sank back into deep sleep.
...
Andy arrived at Arthur's door twenty minutes early as usual, ready to pick him up for the office.
George opened the door with a cheerful smile.
"Andy's here! Have you eaten breakfast? There's fresh porridge in the kitchen."
"Thanks George, I've already eaten." Andy smiled in response while changing his shoes and looking around.
"Is Mr. Mitchell up yet? The doctor said yesterday he should rest another day, but Mr. Mitchell insists on going to the office today. He has some important meetings."
George's smile paused, a flash of surprise crossing his face. "The boss? I didn't see him when I got up this morning. I thought he was in the study or the gym."
Andy froze. "Not in the bedroom? Let me call and ask."
He took out his phone and dialed Arthur's number, but no one answered.
He checked the study and guest rooms—completely empty. No one in the gym either.
"Strange, where did he go so early?" Andy scratched his head, looking confused.
He looked at George. "George, when was the last time you saw Mr. Mitchell?"
George thought for a moment. "Last night after Miss Taylor left, the boss ate some noodles and went to his room to rest. I checked on him around ten o'clock—he seemed to be asleep already. After that, I didn't go in to disturb him."
Andy's brow furrowed.
Arthur was extremely disciplined, with his schedule planned down to the minute.
If he planned to go to the office today, he would never disappear without reason, and he certainly wouldn't leave on his own without notifying him—especially not while still recovering from an injury.
A troubling thought suddenly popped up. Andy's eyes flickered, and he lowered his voice, asking George, "George... Mr. Mitchell didn't... go somewhere on his own last night, did he? Like a nightclub or something?"
George quickly waved his hands. "Impossible, impossible! The boss never goes to those kinds of places! He finds them too noisy, and he's a germaphobe!"
"Then where did he go? His phone's off, and he's nowhere to be found." Andy rubbed his chin, his imagination running wild.
"Could his wound have hurt so much he couldn't sleep, so he went for a drive? Or maybe... he was in a bad mood and went somewhere to drink? But the doctor said he can't drink..."
The more he thought about it, the more something felt off. Arthur's mood lately did seem hard to read.
Especially when it came to Ms. Taylor—he paid extra attention, yet acted all awkward about it.
"Ugh." Andy sighed, muttering worriedly, "What should we do... Ms. Taylor is supposed to come to work today too. If she finds out Mr. Mitchell stayed out all night at a nightclub while injured... yikes. Ms. Taylor seems so proper and capable—she probably wouldn't like a guy who goes clubbing, right? Isn't Mr. Mitchell just ruining his image?"
George listened to Andy's wild speculation, his mouth twitching. He wanted to say something but held back.
Just as Andy and George were deep in their worried speculation, a soft click came from the entrance.
The door opened.
Arthur walked in wearing casual clothes, looking completely composed.
His complexion was better than yesterday. Though there was still a faint tiredness under his eyes, his lips curved in a mysterious smile.
Seeing the two frozen in the living room, he raised an eyebrow. "Why are you both just standing there?"
George and Andy were simultaneously shocked.
He—he just came back from outside?!
He—he's actually smiling?!
What did he do outside so early in the morning that put him in such a good mood?
Arthur changed into slippers and walked toward the dining room.
He pulled out a chair and sat down, picked up his orange juice and took a sip, then looked up at George, who was still standing there in a daze. He smiled and gave a compliment.
"The orange juice today is really good. The sweetness is just right."
The two men exchanged another shocked glance.
Is something wrong with him today?!
Why is he so happy?
George carefully observed Arthur's expression and cautiously spoke up. "Arthur, where... where did you go so early? Andy came just now and couldn't find you. We called but no one answered—we were so worried. Your injury isn't healed yet. The doctor said you need to rest..."
Arthur took another sip of porridge before slowly putting down his spoon and wiping the corner of his mouth with a napkin.
"Oh, nothing much. Couldn't sleep, so I went out for a walk. The air was nice."
"A—a walk?!" George gasped, his eyes nearly popping out.
"My dear boy! You still have wounds on your back and waist! With stitches! The doctor warned you again and again to avoid strenuous activity and rest properly! And you went out for a walk so early in the morning—it probably wasn't even fully light yet! What if you pulled your stitches or caught a cold!"
Andy was nodding frantically in his head.
From what they knew about Arthur, something definitely happened to him today!
Either the wound got infected and the fever made him delirious, or... he fell in love?! Only love could make someone act this abnormal!
But who? Ms. Taylor?
After Ms. Taylor came yesterday, the boss did seem a bit strange...
George's gossip-loving soul began burning fiercely again.
But Arthur didn't notice the subtle expressions on their faces at all. He continued with that inexplicable smile, eating his breakfast at a leisurely pace.
Meanwhile, Sophia downstairs had also woken up.
She had gotten a good night's sleep and felt much more energized.
She stretched lazily and habitually reached for her phone, unlocked it, and checked her unread messages.
But she saw in her chat with Arthur a message that said: [Okay, baby.]
Baby???
Baby!!!
Sophia's hand shook, and she nearly dropped her phone.
She quickly gripped it tighter and shakily clicked into the conversation.
There was Arthur's message telling her to come to work, and below it was her reply: Okay, baby.
No mistake! Definitely not a hallucination!
Sophia froze on the spot.
She remembered yesterday she clearly typed "Okay, Boss"! How did it suddenly become "baby"?
Those two words don't seem related at all?!!!
