Chapter 65 Applying Medicine to the Boss
Chapter 65 Applying Medicine to the Boss
Arthur choked for a moment. The cold mockery on his face froze, then he twitched the corner of his mouth, his tone somehow making people feel chilly.
"I don't know if I'm being passive-aggressive or not, but Ms. Taylor seems pretty good at it."
Sophia: "!!!"
What the hell was she just barking about?
That was Arthur! Her boss! How could she talk to Arthur in that tone?!
She must have been so pissed off by his passive-aggressive attitude just now, plus her mind was still a mess about the divorce, so she spoke without thinking!
"I'm sorry, Mr. Mitchell!" She immediately backed down.
"That's not what I meant! I just... I just spoke too fast! Please don't be angry! I was wrong!"
Watching her instantly transform from a puffed-up kitten to a rabbit with drooping ears, the icy edge deep in Arthur's eyes seemed to melt a little.
"What do I have to be angry about? Ms. Taylor is now a rich woman with a billion dollars in hand, riding high on success. Why would you even bother checking on me — it's not like a boss stuck in bed is much use to you. Coming to see me is just going through the motions, showing some token concern. In your heart, you're probably already calculating that with this huge sum of money, maybe you should set up your own business, or just retire early and enjoy life, right?"
Is he sick?! What the hell is he talking about?!
A billion dollars?
That was her deserved divorce settlement. What does it have to do with work?!
When did she ever think about setting up her own business?!
She came to see him first thing because of guilt and gratitude, but how did everything get twisted when it came out of his mouth?
Sophia was so angry her back teeth were about to grind out sparks. She wanted to smash the supplements she was carrying right at him...
Oh wait, no. He's injured.
She took a deep breath and desperately told herself: Calm down, Sophia, calm down! He's a patient, he's injured with a fever, his mind might not be clear, he's your boss, he pays your salary, and he saved you...
Don't get angry, don't get angry. If you get sick from anger, no one will suffer for you...
On the surface, she forced out an obedient and understanding smile, softening her voice like coaxing a child: "Mr. Mitchell, you really misunderstood. I'm very satisfied with the company and the work you arranged for me. I've never had any other thoughts. I came today to sincerely thank you and care about your injury. There's absolutely no going-through-the-motions intention. You rest well and recover soon to come back to the company. I'll definitely work hard to repay your kindness in recognizing my talent and... saving my life."
She felt she had never been this flattering in her entire life. She was about to get goosebumps.
Only then did Arthur give a satisfied "hmm," and slowly added a few more boss-like lectures about "respecting your boss, loving your work, doing your duty diligently, not letting money corrupt your professional ideals," before finally seeming satisfied. He waved his hand:
"Alright, got it. You can go about your business."
Sophia felt like she'd been granted amnesty and quickly said, "Then Mr. Mitchell, you rest well. I'll leave now!"
After speaking, Sophia turned and left with quick steps, afraid he might come up with more shocking remarks.
Watching her almost fleeing back, Arthur raised his hand and rubbed his brow somewhat wearily.
What was he doing just now?
Acting like a childish brat, sulking.
Sophia stormed out of the bedroom, fuming, cursing Arthur a hundred times in her heart.
That dog of a man, even injured his mouth is still so poisonous! He deserved to get bitten! Vivian should have bitten him a couple more times!
George, who was waiting in the living room, saw her come out so quickly with her face flushed red, clearly from anger, and his heart immediately sank.
Great, Arthur definitely didn't speak nicely again!
He clearly cares in his heart, but when the person comes, he has to put on airs and say unpleasant things to drive them away.
Sigh, this skill at chasing girls, really didn't inherit any of it from his father. It's killing this old man!
He has to worry about everything for him. When will Arthur learn to walk independently?!
George grumbled internally but immediately put on an incredibly kind smile on his face and quickly approached: "Miss Taylor, why did you come out so fast? Arthur didn't give you a hard time, did he?"
"No, no, George. Mr. Mitchell is... fine. He just needs rest, so I won't disturb him anymore." Sophia forced a smile, ready to change shoes and leave.
"Hey, don't rush off, Miss Taylor!" George blocked her way, looking troubled.
"There's something I need to trouble you to help with. I suddenly have an urgent matter at home and need to go back right away. But Arthur... it's time to change his bandages. Andy just happens to not be here today, sent to handle urgent business. Arthur's injury is on his back, he can't reach it himself. If I leave, what are we going to do?"
Change bandages? Sophia's steps paused.
George read her expression and immediately sighed: "Ah, you don't know. The wound doesn't look deep, but the position is tricky. Arthur can't handle it himself at all. The doctor said it must be changed on time and kept clean and dry, otherwise it could easily get infected and inflamed, which would be really troublesome! I was thinking of waiting for Andy to come back, but this matter at home really can't wait. Miss Taylor, could you help out? Just change the bandage, it'll be quick! The medicine kit and doctor's instructions are in Arthur's room."
After saying this, without waiting for Sophia to refuse, he directly stuffed the medicine kit into her hands.
"Then I'm counting on you, Miss Taylor! Great kindness needs no thanks! I'll be back as soon as I handle things at home!"
Then he turned and ran, an old man running at what was practically Usain Bolt's speed.
Sophia held the heavy medicine kit, standing in the empty living room, dumbfounded.
She... she just seemed to see an afterimage...
By the time she chased to the door, it was already firmly closed.
She opened the door. The hallway was already completely empty.
Sophia looked at the medicine kit in her arms, utterly overwhelmed.
Change Arthur's bandages?
A man and a woman alone, with exposed skin...
No, mainly just Arthur himself exposed. The Mitchells probably didn't have a rule that the person applying medicine also had to undress.
But is this appropriate?! It's so inappropriate!
But Arthur's injury was indeed because of her, and the doctor instructed to change the bandages on time. What if it really gets infected...
Sophia had an internal struggle.
In the end, conscience prevailed over awkwardness.
She bit her lip, clutching the medicine kit, and with the resolve of someone facing death, walked toward Arthur's bedroom again.
Knocked on the door, went in.
Arthur was still in his previous position, leaning against the headboard. Seeing her return with the medicine kit in her arms, his eyebrows raised almost imperceptibly.
"George has an emergency at home, and Andy's not around either. He asked me to... help you change your bandages."
Sophia explained stiffly, putting the medicine kit on the bedside table, not daring to look at him.
Arthur gave an "hmm," put down the book in his hand, and very cooperatively spread his arms.
Sophia was shocked.
He wants a hug?
No! He wants her to undress him!
Doesn't he have hands?!
"Um... Mr. Mitchell, we need to take off the robe... a little." Sophia tried to remind him.
"Ah, the injury is in such a tricky position, I'm afraid it's hard to move." Arthur suddenly sighed.
Sophia looked speechless.
Like hell it's hard to move! Just now when he was reading, his fingers were practically a blur turning pages!
