Chapter 50

Chapter 50

The man's face changed drastically.

This was the Greenfield Hotel!

Then his foggy brain finally caught on—yeah, if someone could casually give him that much money, how could they be ordinary people?

And anyone worth that kind of person's scheming couldn't be ordinary either!

The man's legs went weak, nearly dropping to his knees in front of Christina. Fortunately, he still had some self-respect. Before kneeling, he walked to the door and peered through the peephole.

Just as Christina had said, the hallway outside was packed with people, all wearing Greenfield Hotel security uniforms.

The man swallowed hard. "Ma'am, I was just hired to do this. Please let me go."

Christina walked over and sat on the sofa. "Let you go? Sure."

The man's face lit up.

"Really?"

"Of course," Christina shrugged. "But don't you think you should repay me for letting you off the hook?"

The man pressed his lips together, trying to figure out which side he couldn't afford to mess with more.

"Still hesitating? Looks like you've lost your chance." Christina had no intention of wasting more time on him and started to get up.

"Wait!" The man stopped Christina.

"Ma'am, I can tell you everything I know. Will you let me go then?"

"Talk. Once you are done, no one here will stop you from leaving."

The man quickly spilled everything he knew.

Outside the door, Gabriel arrived. The security guards stepped aside, and their leader knocked on the door for him.

Christina got up and opened the door, letting Gabriel in.

When the man saw Gabriel, he froze completely.

He'd seen Gabriel on the trending topics.

He looked at Christina and understood who she was.

Oh God! Looked like he had better leave Aurora City tonight. He'd managed to offend two of the most untouchable people in Aurora City in one go.

For just three hundred thousand dollars, he had crossed both the Stone family and the White family. The man felt like crying.

If he had known, even a million dollars wouldn't have been enough to make him take this job.

"Keep talking."

The man was about to cry.

Nervously, he stammered out his reason for being there.

Turned out, a woman had approached him, offering three hundred thousand dollars just to come to room 888 at the Greenfield Hotel and force himself on whatever woman showed up.

Of course, the room had been rigged with cameras before Christina arrived.

The man didn't even know the woman's name.

Luckily, the place where they'd met had surveillance cameras. Gabriel immediately had Brian pull the footage.

Brian quickly sent over a surveillance video.

"It's Mary."

Christina raised an eyebrow. Wasn't Mary supposed to be traveling with Austin?

Looked like it was time for Mary to pay for what she'd done.

As for Austin.

Christina called Gregory. "Is Austin back?"

No preamble. Gregory choked on his drink and coughed for a while. "You know?"

"When did he get back?"

Gregory glanced at Austin beside him, drinking one glass after another, and grimaced. "Christina, you're not having second thoughts about getting tangled up with Austin again, are you?"

"There's no chance for me and him in this lifetime—not even in the next one!"

"That's good then." Gregory breathed a sigh of relief. "He's right next to me. After he got back, he came to me and asked me to take him to your place. He wanted to see you, but I knew you didn't want to see him, so I didn't agree. Tomorrow's your engagement day, and he was really upset, so I came out to have a drink with him. I didn't do anything else."

Christina understood. "Keep an eye on him. I don't want to see him tomorrow."

After hanging up, Christina shook her head at Gabriel. "This has nothing to do with Austin."

"Then let's deal with Mary first."

They exchanged a smile, both understanding what the other was thinking.

Gabriel clung to Christina, not wanting to part.

Seeing it was already midnight, if she didn't sleep soon, she'd have dark circles tomorrow.

Christina pushed Gabriel away. "Go home now. Tomorrow's the engagement."

"I know, tomorrow's the engagement. I'm too excited to sleep."

"If you look ugly tomorrow, I'm calling off the engagement." Christina threatened.

Gabriel yielded to her "threat" and went home.

The next morning, Christina and Gabriel both got up early. They'd hired Delphine as their makeup artist for the day.

Delphine's team split up to work on both of them. Christina looked at herself in the mirror, feeling a bit dazed.

She was really getting engaged to Gabriel.

"Thank you all for coming to Gabriel and Christina's engagement party today."

Joseph had been discharged from the hospital.

As Christina's father, he'd also spent all morning getting ready before finally taking center stage.

As Gabriel's father, Clarence wasn't allowed on stage. Watching Joseph, his eyes were full of jealousy.

Maeve stood in a corner, not talking to anyone, just quietly watching the two children who had grown up finally come together.

Chloe held onto Finnley's arm, watching Gabriel and Christina standing beside Joseph, her eyes fixed on the big screen behind them.

She'd already given the material to someone. Once those videos came out...

Chloe smirked, looking at Christina, amused by how ridiculous it seemed.

She'd been in another man's bed last night, and tonight she could stand next to Gabriel acting like nothing happened. She didn't believe for a second that Christina had real feelings for Gabriel!

"Now, let's welcome our two stars of the day!" Joseph stepped aside to make room.

The screen behind them lit up.

It showed photos of the two of them recorded from childhood to now.

A harsh, jarring sound rang out, making everyone instinctively cover their ears.

But their eyes immediately went to the screen.

On the screen, a man was nervously pacing around a room, as if waiting for someone.

The white sheets behind him seemed to confirm something, and everyone in attendance could smell the gossip.

Soon, there was a knock on the door. The man walked over and opened it. Christina, one of today's engagement party stars, walked into the room.

Suddenly, the banquet hall erupted in whispers.

People pointed at Christina, whispering among themselves.

From their expressions, it was clear they weren't saying anything nice.

Chloe looked triumphant, pretending to be shocked as she pulled Finnley over. "Grandpa, oh my God, Ms. White was meeting with a man the day before her engagement, behind Gabriel's back!"

Finnley snorted coldly, thumping his cane on the ground. He stepped forward, looking at Christina, who remained calm. Her composure only made him angrier.

"Christina, don't you think you owe us an explanation?"

Christina sighed. "I have nothing to explain."

Hearing this, Chloe grew even more smug as she looked at Gabriel.. "Gabriel, do you see? Christina isn't worth it. Lucky for you, the engagement hasn't started yet. Just pretend you two were never engaged."
