Chapter 47

Chapter 47

The Next Day.

After getting home, Christina spent a long time admiring the videos Gabriel had taken of her on her phone.

He had arranged to set up the camera there in advance.

In one shot, Gabriel was kneeling on one knee while she stood with her back to him, and above them was the brilliant moment of a meteor streaking across the sky.

She dragged the progress bar back and forth, watching this part over and over again.

Juniper and Gregory watched too, envious of their good relationship.

Gregory was a bit surprised.

Gabriel seemed to like Christina even more than he thought.

Gregory sighed.

Too bad Austin still thought he could win Christina back.

Gregory quietly glanced up at Christina and sent the video to Austin.

He hoped that after watching this video, Austin would think clearly and stop coming to find Christina.

"Ms. White, there's someone named Cecil at the door looking for you."

The butler Marlon Rojas had been sick and resting recently. He'd been thinking that given his health and age, he might as well take this opportunity to retire.

But then he heard the news that Christina had come back.

As soon as he recovered, he returned.

Having been the White family's butler for decades, he knew quite a few secrets of wealthy families, including who Cecil was.

He just didn't know how Christina had gotten connected with him after coming back this time.

Cecil?

Christina frowned.

Cecil's vibe was too dangerous. Being watched by him felt like being targeted by a venomous snake. Christina really didn't like it.

Plus they'd only met once. Why was he looking for her?

They didn't even know each other!

Seeing that she didn't seem to want to meet him, Marlon said, "Ms. White, he also said you must see him, otherwise—"

"Otherwise what?"

"Otherwise he'll announce that he's actually the eldest son of the Stone family."

Christina was confused. "Isn't he an illegitimate child? When did he become the Stone family's eldest son? Let him in."

Marlon left.

Christina told Juniper and Gregory to go back to their rooms first.

They both nodded, knowing her business was important.

Cecil had always been confident Christina would see him.

He acted like he was in his own home, very relaxed, and lay down on the sofa as soon as he came in.

"What's wrong? Found out you're not marrying the eldest son of the Stone family and now you're worried?"

"Why are you saying Gabriel isn't the Stone family's eldest son?" Christina ignored his provocation and got straight to the point.

Seeing her reaction, Cecil sat up straight. "You really care about him?"

"Of course, he's my fiancé. If I don't care about him, who should I care about?"

"What if I were your fiancé?" As he asked this, Cecil stared intently at Christina's face, as if he didn't want to miss any expression.

Christina frowned, disgusted by his "what if."

"Cecil, there is no 'what if.' My fiancé will only be Gabriel."

Her disgust annoyed Cecil. He threw down a photo. In it were two marriage certificates, showing Clarence and a woman. The man in the photo looked quite young, but you could tell it was Clarence.

The other woman! Given how cocky Cecil was, she must be his mother.

She laughed mockingly. "Mr. Stone even fakes photos when getting a marriage certificate."

After waiting a while and hearing nothing more from Christina, Cecil was speechless. "Don't you have anything else to say?"

What else was there to say?

Christina raised an eyebrow. "They got married, so what? Even if they're married, you're still younger than Gabriel. You just went from being an illegitimate child to looking legitimate. Stop putting on airs."

"Is that the point?" Not getting the reaction he wanted and being mocked by Christina instead, Cecil got angry. "Are you fucking blind? Can't you see the registration date on the marriage certificate?"

After his reminder, Christina finally looked at the registration date.

Twenty-eight years ago!

"What does this mean? Mr. Stone committed bigamy? Or was he already on his second marriage when he married Maeve?" She'd never heard about this.

"Didn't expect that, did you? The reason my dad won't marry my mom now is because she really did something to betray him, but why do you think my dad treats me so well? Of course it's because he loves her! Otherwise he wouldn't have secretly married my mom back then. Unfortunately, my mom couldn't seize the opportunity. Seeing that being with my dad still meant living in poverty, she got involved with another man. When my dad found out, he got angry, divorced my mom, and married Gabriel's mom. But he didn't know that my mom was already pregnant with me then."

No wonder Cecil said he was the Stone family's eldest son.

No wonder Clarence wanted to hand the Stone family over to Cecil.

But she still didn't want to believe it.

"What you're saying is just one side of the story. This photo could be fake, and your age can't be faked."

Cecil had already guessed she wouldn't believe him easily, so he pulled out two more things.

One was a bone age test he'd done.

The other was evidence that Clarence had indeed been married twice.

Clarence's first marriage was indeed earlier than his marriage to Maeve.

Christina was a bit worried that Gabriel would be heartbroken when he found out, but she wasn't at all afraid that Cecil would spread the news.

But Cecil thought he had her cornered.

"How about it? Marry me, otherwise Gabriel will lose everything."

"I won't be threatened by you. Go ahead and spread the news if you dare, and see if you can make Gabriel lose everything."

Gabriel could become the person in power of the Stone family for two reasons: first, he was legitimate; second, he had the ability to lead the Stone family to greater heights.

Did Cecil have that ability?

Besides, was he really legitimate?

A marriage the Stone family didn't recognize, a marriage no one knew about.

Even if it was exposed, there was a lot of room to maneuver.

Not to mention, back when the illegitimate child issue came up, Maeve's family, the Harrington family, had already let it go with Clarence.

If they found out Gabriel wasn't the Stone family's eldest son and his power would be taken away, they wouldn't easily forgive Clarence for hiding his second marriage back then and humiliating the Harrington family.

The Harrington family wasn't as powerful as the Stone family, but if they were determined to make a fuss, the Stone family would have to back down.

Christina looked at Cecil.

Too bad—she didn't know how such a smart person as Clarence had raised Cecil to be like this.

Naive to the point of stupidity!

If she weren't afraid of Gabriel being hurt, Christina would almost wish Cecil would spread this news.

The more outrageous the better—ideally making the Harrington family feel humiliated enough to go after the Stone family without Gabriel having to say anything.

Christina's eyes turned cold.

Bullying her man.

"Get lost!"

"You!" Cecil hadn't expected Christina to have this attitude.

"Fine! I'm going to spread this news right now!"
