Chapter 75 75
ZAUGUSTUS DYLAN.
“Irian, why are you crossing the line I drew for you?” I asked, mounted on the air, half shifted. I was glad I came on time, or she would have hurt my soulmate with her flame.
As she heard my voice, she turned around, putting behind her the palm which was burning in flames, and on the ground was my slave, with her face pale and covered in tears. “Why are you doing this? I really don't like how you push me.”
“You finally woke up…” she said and made a long face. “But don't you think it's late? The whole realm will throw her stones until she dies, if you insist on having a fae as a soulmate,” she uttered, her voice loud enough for anyone watching to hear. “Zaugustus, I can finally say that she's the reason you've been avoiding me. And I should have understood if she were a dragon. But now, I'm not…
I didn't let her complete her statement, but threw around her my storm rope. I pulled the rope until it stretched her body; her cries echoed in the woods before I let her go. “That's how she felt when those men you hired did this to her. You just told me indirectly that you were behind those assassins.”
“And what if I were?” she growled, her voice breathless. “Zaugustus, you've done enough.”
“Are you going to kill me now?”
“I'm going to do so to her, because if I won't have you, then no one will,” she snorted and forced herself to her feet.
I scoffed and shifted fully into my dragon form, threw my tail forward, and wrapped myself around my slave. “Tell me you want to die by coming closer right now. My dragon isn't just furious but wants to smell someone die by his hand." I said to Irian in my dragon language before crawling up to the sky with my slave mounted on me.
I moved faster to my quarters and broke through the roof into my chamber, then I laid her on my bed before shifting back to my human form and sealing up the roof once again. I watched her, who had passed out due to fear, and shook my head.
Right now, the realm is in chaos because of this. They wanted me to bring her out to be hanged to death, but that was the last thing to ever do. Not just because killing her anyhow would make her powers burst and affect everyone, but also because I do not want her hurt for any reason.
If she must die, then I would be responsible for that. But then, she wasn't dying anytime soon, because I hadn't found a means to take her life peacefully yet. It was after I succeeded in finding that I would now sever the soulbond.
And one thing was that her powers were so different from the rest in her clan, which was why she was able to unseal me from the ground, too. She had the power to seal and unseal, curse and bless, do and undo things. Such a powerful power would turn the world upside down, which was why the faes killed the whole clan, just so they could kill the one whose power was more difficult for them.
But what they didn't know was that she, who was the last in the bloodline, had the power…and the thousands of people they killed were all a waste.
Her parents knew from the onset and hid her, but I was going to destroy her when her time was due.
___
I stayed in the mountain for five days all alone, and my parents, after getting tired of waiting for me in my chamber, came all the way here to see what I look like, leaving the realm to the tallest mountain.
My mother dropped beside me the fruits she had gotten, and still couldn't hold back from talking. “When are you going to reject the soulbond and hand her over to the executioners? You know very well how this will never be accepted.”
“Is that why you've been protecting her? How long were you planning to do that when you knew it wouldn't work out?” my father asked from behind me. “Zaug, you have to stand firm and do the right thing. If she were a dragon, you know how much the realm would be glad that you finally found the soulmate that you'd always longed to meet. Not a fae, son. You have to sever the bond.”
My mother cleared her throat and closed the distance between us, dusting my hair of snow while still talking, “Please listen to your parents even if it's this one time. Her clan is traitorous, which is why the faes have been executing them up till now. And since you brought her and her brother in here, the best you could do for them is to unbind your soul from hers, so that she would serve you as a master and not get molested by others.”
I turned to her, and she froze that instant. “No one must touch my soulmate. Whoever does will have to face my wrath.”
“Zaugustus…!!”
“I own her life, Father. So whenever I get tired of her, I will do the necessary,” I insisted, my voice authoritative enough for them to know how serious I was.
After a little time, they left, and I was finally left alone.
When the sun had set, Orrifin showed up behind me and cleared his throat.
“Are they off the palace?” I asked him.
“Not just them now,” he said, and I turned around with furrowed brows. “All the scholars had joined them, too, and the masses are gradually showing up as well.”
I scoffed, “Why are they doing this?”
“Your Sovereignity, what should I do? Wipe them off the palace?”
I nodded, “They can do that shit outside the palace. How dare they try to disturb my mate when she's taking treatments?”
He was silent for some time until he finally walked until he was very close, so he squatted.
“Sovereign, her human friend wants to leave the realm because she's scared she would be used to hurting both of you again,” he whispered to me, and I shrugged my shoulders.
“I have no business with her, so just take her back to the human land.”
“Thats not it!” he mentioned and said again. “I don't want her to leave.”
I blinked and turned around to meet his gaze, “How do you mean? She's not a dragon, so…”
He shook his head, “I can't stand it!”
My jaw dropped. He couldn't stand taking back a human to her realm?
“What exactly do you mean? Are you scared of humans?” I just didn't want to assume it was what I thought, so I needed him to say it himself. “Orrifin, are you…
He nodded, and my eyes widened. I didn't even realise when I stood so quickly. “You are what? In love with a human?”
What the fuck! I couldn't hold back my laughter.
“Sovereign, this isn't funny, you know. I don't want her to leave, so what do I do to make her stay? I understand her reason for returning, but….”
He fucking wanted to cry like a baby female.
“Look, you have to offer something in exchange for her staying. Don't even tell her how you feel, or you scare her away.” I advised and came closer to him. “Promise to protect her so she wouldn't be a weapon against her friend, and you're going to mean it.”
His shoulders dropped in relaxation, and he gently nodded.
“And, you're going to gradually start showing your love towards her, so she can fall for you smoothly too. If you force yourself, she would be scared away because she'd seen what's happening to her friend.” I said again, and he bowed to me. “Now, were you able to find the seed I told you about?"
His gaze narrowed, “Did you mean it? You really want to take her life, really?”
I went mute because I didn't even know what I wanted.
“You waited so long for your mate, and now the deities have given you one. Even though it's forbidden on earth here, don't you think they have their reason to make it happen?”
I licked my lips and patted his shoulder, "There's a consequence that comes with leaving her alive. So it's better if I sever the bond and kill her.”
“Soverign!”
“I have to do it, then I will finally ascend.” I turned around and faced nature before us. “Maybe this is why they made me so eager to meet my mate, because I need to take care of someone who would end the world if I had ascended. Taking her life by myself meant I'd be too traumatised to have another, so I would just ascend when I'm done with her.”
Something liquid dropped out of my eyes, and I wiped it off. How was I crying when I wasn't?
I turned around and leaped without even saying anything to Orrifin, only to realise my mate was crying bitterly in my chamber.
