Chapter 41 41
I forced myself to my feet and slowly walked closer to the man, expecting to see his eyes wide open. But to my greatest surprise, he was covered in his blood, bleeding from his head, eyes shut tight, and his skin color changing.
Panic surged through me. I took a few steps backwards, scared at what I had just done.
How did I end up killing someone? I didn't intend to, but to scare him off and have his legs broken so I could run away from him. I peeked at his body again, and my body hair all stood erect; fear surged through me, causing my body to begin quivering.
I wanted to run away, but my feet were stuck to the floor. I gripped the side of my dress as scorching heat enveloped me. I wanted to scream for someone to come take me out, but my lips happened to be so heavy that it couldn't even move.
So I stood there, trembling and watching as the man's body completely turned green. I covered my eyes, scared that watching him would awaken him, and he would strangle me to death. But at that moment, I heard the flapping wings of a dragon, and then the chirping sound.
As I turned, my eyes landed on the purple dragon that swifted me off the floor, and I found myself lying on its scaly body. I searched for its saddle and sat firm, and when I looked down at the floor, I wasn't able to see the body clearly again.
I didn't need to know who it was, so I held tightly, my breath raspy, while I hoped that the memory of the man's death would clear from my mind.
The dragon flew down soon, and I watched as it pierced through the hearts of several people with its sharp wing, and then they slumped to the floor. Watching blood splatter everywhere made me recall the fae that I had just killed, and I shut my eyes so I wouldn't witness how many more people it was going to kill.
I stayed on the dragon for a long time, until it growled so loud, causing me to open my eyes. I didn't expect to see Dragon Sovereign standing beside the dragon I sat on, so I jumped out of the dragon and got to him.
I pointed at the dragon, but before I could even speak, it flew off again. “What is going on? I thought it was really you….” I managed to ask, my voice so low while I stared at the Sovereign's face. “That dragon took me. Did you send it?”
He nodded, “But I was in the background then…”
Background? What was he talking about?
“My dragon is going after your brother, so be assured that he might be brought back tonight. My realm is being attacked because of you, so you must be with me,” he explained and took my hand.
I wasn't sure where we were going, but I had no other choice but to follow him.
His dragon was going to bring my brother? I honestly couldn't wait to set my eyes on River once again.
“What about my friend? I didn't get to see her…” I asked him, and he didn't even turn around. “You're not saying anything, Sovereign. Ofelia must be in danger…”
He shook his head, “No one goes into danger when with Orrifin.”
Orrifin? It was quite good to hear that his right-hand man was with her. That way, I felt so peaceful and was now hoping that his dragon would return victorious.
We walked to an extent, and he leaped, having his arm wrapped around me. And when we dropped, I couldn't believe the paradise I found myself in. It was more like the garden I had a dream about, and there was a little hut there, too.
I glanced around, smiles plastered across my face. “This place is so beautiful…”
“They aren't real…” he responded, and my lips hung open. “I created them, so we can stay here until the chaos is over.”
I twisted the fabric of my dress and simply closed the distance between us. I looked him straight in the eyes and asked him, “If you stay here with me, then what would happen to your people? Don't you think they would be harmed? There are ones I kept in my chamber.”
He chuckled, “How am I supposed to stay there when I'm the target too? Do you think they could destroy my people if I still lived?”
“But your dragon…
“That's one of the wicked creatures ever under this earth,” he cut me short, and I simply took a soft gulp. “I've trained so many men to secure the realm, so making sure that I do not get harmed like years ago is the best thing. And if I am so busy fighting with them, don't you think they will come after you freely?”
He was making sense, but I still didn't want his people hurt because of me.
Indeed, his dragon was brutal, because I recalled how it killed people on our way as though it were nothing.
“Dragon Sovereign, what about you leave me here and return to the realm?”
“This is still part of my realm, just that nobody is seeing us, as it seems we aren't part of the earth any longer. Also, there's a time limit to staying here, and once it's exhausted, we would certainly leave,” he explained and turned his back to me.
I glanced around at the butterflies perching on the flowers. It was nighttime, but daytime here. “What if the chaos is still ongoing when the time is exhausted?”
“You should have asked how long it could take…”
“Then tell me.” I giggled, moving closer to him and taking his hand.
He halted midstep and lowered his upper body towards my face, “Seventy-two hours…”
What? That's too much. Three good days, and there was no way the chaos would take that long.
“Then, can we leave before the time ends?” I asked, and he shook his head. “What about you bring my friend and brother here?”
He chuckled, “It's just for us…”
Just for us?
I shut my lips and continued walking with him.
“Once the time is up, we will be teleported back to my chamber,” he said, and I nodded. “So, I'm going to tell Orrifin about the people in your chamber so they can be let out when things calm down.”
“Do you trust that your men can handle all those creatures?” I asked, and he nodded, smiling. “The dragons must be so strong that all those people won't overcome them.”
He quickly sat on the rock before him and pulled me until I sat on his thighs. “In my absence, did you know how much my people trained? You thought they were hiding in the sea, mountains, and those other places. But they were training to come after me soon. So you could imagine the amount of strength and powers they'd had all those years, in addition to the training I had given them since I returned.”
I just realised my arm was across his neck, and for some weird reason, I didn't understand why we were being so close instead of being rivals.
I recalled how close we were when I didn't know he was a dragon in the woods, but that was then. What could have been over him to be acting this way?
“You spellbound me. If not, I wouldn't be this way…” he suddenly spoke, causing me to shudder.
My brows drew together. Did he just read my mind?
I was about to bash at him when he pressed his lips against mine, shutting me up, his eyes closed. I tried not to respond so he would let go, and I would talk to him. I wouldn't like someone looking into my mind with their powers, and now I was thinking about how much he knew about my thinking.
Yet, I couldn't resist it and began kissing him back. I pressed my body against his, slowly melting into his arms, while we kissed each other with so much energy.
