Chapter 31 31
ZAUGUATUS DYLAN.
I searched with Orrifin the whole castle, but the fae female was nowhere around. I even had to go through the whole realm, which took me hours to finish, and I still didn't detect her scent. When I connected with Orrifin through my dragon, he also made it clear that they had yet to get any signs of her around the realm.
Knowing that the only option was going outside the realm, I had to take that step hastily. If I had known, I would have ordered her back when she left the throne room. I had thought she knew the way to the cell or my chamber, so I didn't bother and just wanted her to leave the throne room.
I was getting dressed to take her from the cell before her human friend showed up and announced her disappearance.
Could it be that she missed her way? Even if she did, I was supposed to find her already. Even if she dropped into a river again, her scent was supposed to make it easier to find her.
The only place I had in mind to search for her was the Fae realm, because I knew they were after her life. But, if eventually they caught her, then how did it happen? How did they happen to come into the realm without the Dreadwing Generals and Ember Knights knowing about them?
I had crossed the border in my dragon form, racing to the sky while sniffing in search of her scent. In the woods, I perceived several fae scents all at once, and the moment I looked down, there was a cave below.
If I showed up in my dragon form, they would know who I was, so I had to disguise myself in my shadow form and enter the cave. The whole place smelled of them, but I didn't get to see a single soul at the beginning of the cave. I entered deeper into it, hoping to find the fae female, even though I wasn't sure which of the scents belonged to her any longer.
Since I was a shadow, the two men walking towards me didn't get to see me or even notice that a dragon shadow was with them. They whispered to themselves, walking out, and I happened to know that the scents I had been perceiving belonged to them.
I aimed to attack them in my shadow form and have them spill where the fae female was, not until one of them said to the other, “She will be beheaded with her brother soon. They have been taken to the execution ground, and I can't wait to watch their blood splatter all over the place.”
Anger surged through me that moment. How did these folks come into my realm and take my slave? She was powerless and wouldn't know that they were faes; they had the opportunity to deceive her and take her away, because that was the only way they could have succeeded in doing that.
I wouldn't doubt it if they had been spying for a long time and seeking a chance to strike her, so seeing her walking alone at night gave them the chance to act.
In fact, I hated myself for not paying so much attention to protecting the castle for her sake. If I had recalled that the faes could hang in the air for a long time, sealing the whole castle with my stormfire barrier would have been better.
But I had to assure myself that it wasn't too late. She had the powers they had been searching for, so letting her live since she was weak was no alternative for them. When they claim she was a threat to them, I claim she could be of use to me, for someone who saved me from the underground could do more when they regain their power. Just that, if her powers were a threat to the dragons, I wouldn't let her survive.
In my shadow form, I entered the fae realm, thereby connecting with Orrifin and warning them to keep hanging outside their realm so as not to draw their attention. Since I already knew where their execution ground was, I headed there instantly.
To my greatest shock, she was hanged like a criminal. Her hand tied upwards above her head, and the same with her legs. She looked so weak that she barely moved her head, but since I felt her breath, even though it was shallow, I was happy she was still alive, and I came on time.
Around there were so many faes who had gathered to watch her executed. I searched around, but there was no clue of her brother.
The fae councils were standing at the side, while the executioners were getting ready to bring her down and mount her on the bench cutter before everyone.
Quickly, I leapt towards her and slashed my index finger on the rope holding her hands. I caught her in my arms as she began falling to the ground, and then quickly transformed back to my human form.
The crowd burst into screams, a lot were on a run as they had seen who exactly I was. The fae councils staggered backwards, some already running as fast as they could. The ones who thought they could challenge me stayed behind, their eyes burning in fury, while I held tight to my body, the fae female who had no strength left in her.
How dare they hurt my slave? Didn't they guess that I had a reason for letting her live when I should have destroyed them by now?
“It is still a mystery how you escaped from the underground, because even she has no power to do that.” The priest walked further before me with his staff, which irritated me so much. “Did you think showing up would scare us all away? You didn't think we would let you take her away when she belonged to us, right?” the man growled, and the others who stood behind him began murmuring, pointing fingers at me.
I scoffed. They hadn't known that I left the underground until now, so what did they think I would do? Let them live?
They should have just let my slave be to buy more time for them. Stepping foot in their realm meant an end to their species.
“Dragon Sovereign, maybe she would be used to seal you back to where you belong,” the priest roared and dropped his staff on the floor.
I glanced around, and once I caught sight of irons around, I quickly sealed them up with my stormfire, because the only way they could weaken me was to use the irons against me first. Seeing that I sealed them, the priest staggered backwards.
I slowly dropped the fae female to the floor, because I was finally going to end every one of them.
As they watched the irons crushed to ashes by my stormfire barrier, that was how their realm and everyone in it would end up.
The moment I encircled my stormfire, ready to transform into my dragon form and take away the fae female with me before releasing it, she coughed behind me, her finger twisting the hem of my robe.
I glanced back at her, and all I could see was the pain that masked her. Her broken lips moved, so I enabled my dragon hearing ability to hear her well. “Find my brother first, before you harm them,” was all she said and passed out again.
I gnashed my teeth in fury. I had forgotten about her brother, but how was I going to find him at this point in time?
