Chapter 101
After hearing this, Leonard pursed his lips and finally said heavily, "As soon as possible."
Frank felt a bit helpless, "Leonard, I've worked so hard to help you gather information, don't you have a word of thanks? At least you should treat me to a meal!"
Although it wasn't difficult for Frank to find this information, it was time-consuming.
Leonard, holding his phone, seemed to think Frank had a point, so he asked, "What do you want to eat?"
Frank felt his opportunity had come, "I want to eat the food Margaret makes! I thought it was delicious last time, let me come to your house for a meal again!"
Leonard immediately and righteously refused without hesitation, "Dream on."
He didn't want Frank to come to his house for a meal.
He didn't want to share Margaret's cooking with anyone else.
After saying this, he didn't give Frank a chance to continue pestering him and directly hung up the phone.
Frank listened to the beeping sound on the other end and felt a bit frustrated.
He just wanted to have a meal, what's the big deal? So stingy!
Why hadn't he noticed before that Leonard was such a stingy person?
Margaret got paid today. Although she had taken quite a few days off this month, she still completed her projects, so she didn't get full attendance but did get a bonus.
Seeing her paycheck, she felt a bit relieved.
Fortunately, her job's pay wasn't too low, otherwise, she really wouldn't know how to get by.
When she married Leonard, she had seen his bank account number, so Margaret generously transferred some money to Leonard.
During this time, Leonard had been buying everything for the house. He not only gave her a necklace but also bought a wedding photography package and took her out to eat many times.
All these things cost money, so Margaret didn't want Leonard to spend too much money on her.
He was already working hard every day doing surgeries.
After transferring the money, she went to the market to buy groceries and went home to cook for Leonard.
She had always heard people say that women shouldn't lower themselves to cook for men and be housewives, as it would make men look down on them.
But Margaret didn't think that way.
She actually enjoyed cooking, and even without Leonard, she would cook delicious meals for herself every day.
So she wasn't cooking just for Leonard.
And she didn't think being a housewife was a bad thing. Managing all the household chores and raising children was also very challenging for Margaret.
When Leonard came home, Margaret had just finished the last dish. She brought the soup out from the kitchen and, seeing Leonard changing his shoes, said, "You're back? Wash your hands and eat, dinner is ready."
Leonard looked at the dining table. Tonight's dinner was very rich, with four dishes and a soup, definitely enough for the two of them.
Margaret and Leonard sat face to face eating. After hesitating for a moment, she said, "Honey, have you felt short of money lately?"
She wanted to suggest not buying her things next month to save some money.
Leonard wasn't surprised by her question and said in a deep voice, "Do you think I'm short of money?"
Margaret was slightly stunned, "That's not what I meant, I just thought we could save a bit."
To make the most of the necklace Leonard gave her, she wore it every day and never took it off.
But the wedding dress and photography package, they really didn't need right now.
"If that's not what you meant, why did you transfer money to me?"
Leonard asked calmly while picking up food, making Margaret, who was sitting opposite, hold her breath and look at him in disbelief.
"You knew?"
Leonard nodded, "The bank sent the information to my phone, it's hard not to know."
Margaret felt a bit embarrassed after hearing this.
She didn't do it on purpose, but she only knew his bank account number, so she could only transfer money from there.
She thought this method wouldn't be too obvious, but she was just deceiving herself.
Margaret had always thought Leonard wouldn't find out so quickly that she transferred money to him.
But Leonard had seen it as soon as she transferred it today.
He didn't think she was looking down on him, but understood that she just felt he had been spending a lot lately.
But he actually wanted to say that the money he was spending now was just a drop in the bucket.
He was already controlling his spending speed and amount, otherwise, it would scare her.
During the meal, Margaret went to the fridge and took out a bottle of red wine.
Leonard was a bit surprised to see her wanting to drink.
He hadn't forgotten what happened last time when she got drunk at a social event.
Since they got married, Margaret had only drunk a few times, he didn't know why she suddenly wanted to drink today.
"Just a little, I saw it on sale when I was buying groceries today, it was very cheap, but it needs to be finished soon, otherwise, it will expire."
Leonard didn't expect she wanted to drink just because it was about to expire, he found her a bit cute.
Margaret took two glasses and poured half a glass for herself and Leonard.
She first tried a small sip and found it tasted good, then quickly finished the half glass.
Compared to strong liquor, red wine doesn't get you drunk as easily, so Margaret accidentally drank almost half the bottle by herself.
Leonard drank some with her, but not much.
After drinking, Margaret became bolder than when she was sober.
She looked at Leonard with blurry eyes, hesitated for a moment, and said, "I found out that Howard and Stella are getting married these past two days. I thought I would be sad, but now I realize I'm not sad at all."
Leonard didn't know why she suddenly wanted to tell him this and looked at her.
Margaret and Howard had been together for many years, and during those years, she always thought they would end up together, they were just one step away.
So Margaret thought she would be stuck in that situation for a long time.
But after marrying Leonard, she found she hadn't thought about Howard and Stella for a long time.
Maybe she had really moved on.
And all of this was thanks to Leonard.
She looked at Leonard and said softly, "Thank you for helping me out of that shadow. Being with you healed me and made me realize life is still beautiful, and I can live well even without a jerk."
